Nice! I bought my own 246 in Jan 2024 and similarly, just loving it. I’ll be interested in your perspectives going forward on exposure with it. I’ve found an ND filter during the day with anything faster than f5.6 is pretty much a necessity. I just bought a TTArtisan 28mm f5.6, which is a tiny gem. Outstanding! And you can't go wrong with the TTArtisan lens for the streets. Although, the Brightin Star XSLIM-M 28mm f/2.8 will give it a run for its money. As far as exposure, I've not used an ND filter on mine yet. I do have a B+W UV-Haze filter mounted at all times; however, when the need arises, I do use color filter, yellow, orange, and red, when I think it will help with my composition. Otherwise, I stick with exposure triangle of adjusting ISO, aperture, and shutter speed. Thanks for the comment.
This video is just on time for me. My monochrome journey started over a year ago with Q2 mono. I do video/photo, corporate portraits, weddings, events, with Canon mirrorles system and bought Q2 just for daily use. But more and more I deliver Q2 photos to the clients. And they love them. There is a good deal locally on 246 and I would love to pair those two. Like my 28mm is Q2 and Im thinking 50 on 246. Do you have some recomendation on some good character, not clinicly sharp 50? Jazodog, appreciate it and thank you. It's funny, I was thinking the same thing with a local event combo. Use the 28 and either a 50mm or 90mm at parades, art shows, car shows the like. If I was to recommend a lens with good character; I would consider a fast lens at a minimum of f/2.8 or faster like the Q2. The issue is Leica does become a bit pricey with faster lens. Voigtlander and TTArtisan lens are great alternatives for 'M' mount lens to consider. I am partial to the Voigtlander. I hope that helps with your consideration. Best thing I can say is just go with what grabs you and create awesome. Good luck and have fun.

I started using the Leica M system in April 2018, buying a pre-owned Summilux-M 50mm ASPH, and a new M10, a retirement gift to myself, and an effort to re-learn to want to photograph people. (The final seven years of my public service career had included the added duty of photographing crime scenes and crime victims.) After I had a mishap with my M10, which would require a trip to Leica USA, for repair, I added a pre-owned M Type 246. Today, in 2024, I believe that the original M10 and the 246 Monochrom are still as relevant as ever.

Good question. Long story short, when I started photography in earnest, I started photographing with Canon DSLR cameras. Great cameras and lens. But, for me, believe it or not, they were a bit complicated for me and I wanted to develop the skill to photograph much like the days of old. Especially, when I got back into photographing and developing film. The raw, basic, barbaric skill set of a photographer that is lean. There isn't that much to the M246 in the way of menu and choices. It was designed for simplicity and to photograph without all the bells and whistles to think about getting. Right up there say with my 1986 Leica M6. Oh, and all my Canons, I gave them to my youngest, she's a photographer in her own right. Thanks for asking and I hope my answer sheds a bit of light. Although, this could make a great episode.
Have to tell you that sounds like a killer combo giving what little I know of the history between the two. And it's great you have the best of two worlds, because I bet it does take awesome photographs. Thank you.
