Ive got a 2005 GMC Envoy and just hit 136,000 miles. The best thing I ever did when I paid it off years ago was send that car payment (and slowly bumped it up) to a mutual fund. Can pay cash for my next used car. Thanks to Dave Ramsey. Cheers!!

WE JUST TOOK A TRIP TO SOUTH TEXAS FROM MINNESOTA. 3,450 MILES ROUND TRIP. Only had a fan belt break!
I sold my 2005 envoy at 320,000kms on 2019 August, it's still running perfectly.
The comfort, confidence and drivability given by him is unforgettable, still love to drove it.....

My 2006 has 276000 and runs like new . Am using for about 6 years and never have to put any drop of antifreeze , no even a drop of power steerling and no even a drop of brake fluid , just oil change and one time transmition oil change .

My 2004 envoy just had $6,000 worth of work done to it because it had 225,000+ miles on it. This car was new when I bought it and put hwy. miles dat after day on her. Thank goodness she died three miles from my home and two blocks from the dealer where I bought it. This car has been the BEST car I have ever owned !!!!!!!!

mine 2004 204,000 and running strong no mayor issues , water pump battery, i did replace transmission at 126000 i bought the truck with 96000 miles , i bought a used transmission on a yunk yard for $ 700 from a trail blazer wrecked , with 56000 miles and so far is working fantastic

I love this suv. Now I just bought my third one. This time I got the Xuv . I use it for work + plus sometimes I tow Trailor. Usually I drive it about 200k additional to the original ~90k mileage then get another one. I don’t even bother to fix them. Parts are chip too specially if you know a little about cars.
My 04 has 109k onit lots to go still 😊 but yeah its a nice truck i do like tons hope many more good times to come with it

@@weeb121 technically, it’s an inline 6. I don’t have any experience with the 5.3l V8 motor, but it’s all in how you take care of it.

I have an 07 at 149,000 and still love it. The only things I can remember was the brain went, tie rods within the first 2 years and had 70,000 miles when I purchased it in 2011, ball joints recently, new brakes as needed, new tires twice, regular oil changes. This thing runs like a horse. I have since bought a Ford Focus while Envoy brain was being replaced. Huge mistake on that note and can't wait to get rid of it and it is a 2015 nothing but clutch and transmission problems. Still paying it off yet. Glad I kept my Envoy way more reliable!!!

Awesome, this is the second video I have watched of yours, I am not that far from you, I Live in Fayetteville. I just bought my envoy from a friend for 1300 and it runs pretty good, engine and trans have been replaced already, just have to clean her up and work on a few minor areas then start going over engine to dos.

My 04 TB LT just reached 260K today. I have not had any major repair on this TB and all routine maintenance are done at my garage by myself. I am hoping to get this TB over 1/2 million miles- It is very cost effective SUV I have ever owned.

228,318 miles ..... The most major or thing I’ve had to do to my ( Deep South purchased and driving in ) 2010 Envoy to date is the shift solenoids in the transmission which I did myself. Other then that just a couple of sensors and an alternator and brakes one rotor and tires . It’s been a great vehicle . The reason I state where it’s purchased and being driven is that WHERE YOU BUY IT SND DRIVE IT AND WHAT CONDITIONS YOU DRIVE IT have a lot to do with the life it can have. So a California or Texas Envoy can do much better then say a state such as Michigan where the temperatures are extreme changes roads are rough and salt on the roads. Another thing to keep in mind is interstate highway miles vs city miles. LOVE THIS VEHICLE !!! Except the rear 3 rd brake spoiler ... both my envoys they snapped off going down the HWY ... a problem with envoys

I have a 2004 GMC Envoy with 326,000 miles. I had the transmission rebuilt at 166,000. The 4.2 Engine has had only general maintenance no rebuild. This is the best vehicle I have ever owned. Purchased Envoy with 120,00miles.

I just bought a 03 Envoy with 309,000 Highway Miles for 500$. It would not start with the key , but I had to hunt down the wire short and boom key starts every time.

I am at almost 200K miles and the Envoy Denali does require more maintenance than my old Suburban, but it's more fun to drive. My Suburban has almost 320k miles and it's been easy to maintain and more rock solid.

I might add that I had front hubs replaced (one squeaked) and, in Mexico. I spent 1K for 4K worth of work replacing the ball joints, rack&pinion and a head job, etc., from an A+ mechanic. Labor rates are a KILLER in the USA - so difficult for some to properly maintain their cars.

My 03 with 230,000 miles, only use full synthetic oil, replaced struts, ball joints, and other parts that wear out. It's the long wheel base, has less git up and go than the short. Or my engine is not as strong. Either way, it's a cruiser. I once used the oil sensor to tell me when to change the oil, it go so sluggish at about 13% I went ahead and changed it. I usually go about 5000 miles. To my understanding, full synthetic won't sludge up? I also use marvel mystery oil from time to time. It will lose a quart of oil, but not on a consistent basis, kind of weird. When I changed spark plugs, the one under the fire wall broke, I thought the socket was on, but it was beside it. Some porcelain fell into the cylinder. I used the other car and went to the stores, bought a bought scope camera (not all will fit, get the smallest possible) and some copper, toilet water tube. I hooked up the copper tube to the shop vac and use the bore camera to watch it all get sucked up. Owning a car for a lifetime is an adventure.

@@KevinNadeau okay so on average about 16 mpg combined. Do you think that’s a little expensive? My truck runs good. Has about 125,200 miles on it. I’ve already put 5,000 into it sense I’ve grabbed it from my uncle for free. Im just trying to figure is it worth putting any more money into it. Especially with the newer cars getting way better gas mileage.

I just bought a 2004 gmc envoy with 115,000 for $500, only needs new rotors and pads, it's definitely a steal for $500, it purrs like a kitten and it's super clean, it was this college kids, he got a new truck and said he was just gonna scrap it...I was like WHAT!!?? Man love my Envoy it's an 03' & roughly has 276,000 but I swapped out instrument clusture & for some odd reason the odometer readings are reading from the new cluster which has 209,824 but my original one had 248,065 when I swapped? Don't understand the reading bring off by that margin but anyways! This thing has been a work horse for me & I wanted to get a newer GMC like the Acadia but I'm still on the fence about it! I love the fact that mines rear-wheeled drive & on a true truck frame which makes it very capable? I wish they'd make a new GMC Envoy but I doubt it! It's been so solid save for some overheating issues water pumps, radiator replacement,fan clutch, upper ball joints getting lowers done next & catalytic converter (2) transmission twice because a dealership didn't tell me I had a trans leak & the next day lost my transmission? But over all engine is rock solid! Use only Pennzoil in her!

I own a 2002, just passed 255350k this week! Right axle dropped on me back in August, but I work at Honda so labor costs was a steal! Was thinking of getting rid of her, but it’s paid off & hard to find “tanks” nowadays! Hoping to get a 4th gen Lexus GS350 as my 2nd car.. been driving Mona (Envoy) over 6-7 years!

I know they come lower in the front, but I just got my right axle done & the guy made my front alignment damn near perfect. I know air springs aren’t the best, what do you recommend? May, wanna do a 2 inch lift w some beefier tires.. just keep her a tank as I’m paying off the Lexus in the future
@@akreacts8296 I don't have any experience with the air springs, so can't offer any help in that regard. I sort of like the level look as well, but haven't put a leveling kit on mine.

Just bought an 09 for $2000 and has 310k on it and runs drives great.
So have you had any issues with the transmission shifting erratically ? It seems to be a common issue with these when they get close to 200K miles.
I had an issue a while ago where the transmission wouldn't downshift out of overdrive when I stepped on the gas pedal. I replaced all the shift solenoids and that fixed my problem. While I had the transmission drained, I also installed a Transgo shift kit.

Envoys are excellent cars for the driving experience, BUT the Yukon or Suburbans are better given they are easier to work on and one I have has 320K of easy maintenance.
I don’t disagree with that 👍. Matter of fact, my next vehicle will likely be a Yukon XL or Suburban.
@@KevinNadeau The recent Yukon XL or Suburban are amazing vehicles; however, they are NOT built as well and require more maintenance than the earlier versions. Also, they are not fun to drive because you have the complex suspension system and don't feel the road much; also, they do things strangely so it's more expensive and more work to maintain these cars. Still, they can be economical for used ones in good condition, but be aware the workmanship can cause problems BECAUSE GM builds cars the government wants; not cars their customers want!!!! Buyer beware!!!

My Envoy is great it has almost 200,000 miles trouble free miles , Also l had a 91 S-10 Blazer with the 4.3 engine with 800.000 miles basically trouble free same engine same trans and was stolen and destroyed otherwise I would still be driving her .My cousin has a Pilot it's a money pit ,I love my bowties .I run full synthetic oils .

You will have to remove the rear trim panel on the hatch to access the mechanism. My rear glass button was stuck and I had to remove the trim and fix the button. What's wrong with the water pump? Are the bearings going out on it? If so, replace it.

Yes it is! I did put a shift kit in it and replace the shift solenoids, but other than that, it's original. I have probably pulled a utility trailer 10 times in its life.

The engine in the Denali is a 5.3 but it is not as good as the 5.3 engine in the GMC Yukon or Chevy Suburban. It's aluminum, so a lighter engine, but it won't last as long as the engine in the Suburbans. I have almost 200K miles on my '06 GMC Envoy Denali and it's fun to drive, so we usually drive it locally while using the larger vehicle for trips and hauling.
I have a 2005, with 206.000 on it. I did have to put a transmission in it. The only other basic have been. Battery, brakes tires,alternator and a serpentine belt. Oh. Also headlights and wiperblades.

They eventually rust. A weld shop can repair it.
My ‘03 l6 has over 500k miles and still running and my ‘07 5.3 v8 with 240k miles is also running fine even with the D0D

@@KevinNadeau damn I mean nothing and I’m the second owner to each I’ve driven them both out west many times from here in central Florida I just don’t abuse them in my v6 I’ve only replaced the coils my v8 just some upper control arms other than that no problems

I just bought a 2004 envoy xuv 5.3 and it’s very clean everything works but now my check engine light came on and I notice when I park the hood is very very hot I’m wondering if I need a fan clutch
is your temperature gauge going to the right of the "210" mark? If it was close to overheating you should see it getting hotter as you drive it. The fan clutch is a known failure on these, and when they go bad they typically set off a check engine light. Usually, the trade mark failure sound is it sounding like a jet engine constantly while driving, with reduced power. I would get the code read by Advanced, or any auto parts store. The clutch fan takes about an hour to do, however, its not that hard to do (plenty of videos on how to change it). The hard part is lining up the fan so you can start hand tightening it onto the threads then its smooth sailing from there.

Bro... fan clutch was not hard to replace. Ive done it multiple times on my Envoy and ended up installing an electric fan instead

Got an offer and Thinking about buying a 05 Denali envoy with about 145k mi for about $5k for a point A to B car. Don’t know much about GMCs reliability in the 2000s tho. Think it would be a fair/decent deal?
That seems reasonable. I would ask for service records and also check Kelly Blue Book values. And have it checked out by a mechanic before you buy it.
Make sure to check for A/C compressor seizing (which when I test drive the 2002 I was going to buy did not manifest itself. After I bought, I drive it home and the compressor started seiizing. Let it run at idle with the AC for at least 20 minutes and turn AC on/off randomly to test compressor reaction.) Also, ask if timing chain has been replaced and pay attention to the idle and watch out for engine idle dipping and stumbling or it may even tend to shut off due to low idle.
I bought an 2002 TB last month for $2300 146 k miles. I failed to screen the compressor. Hook up a scanner to see whats going on with the engine. If engine and tranny are ok, thats 80% of the equation. The engines on these things are solid and transmissions are very good

Your pressure relief hose that vents from fill tube back into system is most likely pinched closed. Investigate and free it and you will be good to go.
same with my 04 ascender, i have to very lightly and slowly put the gas in for 1 solid rate of flow, and its a pain!!

I expect 400,000 unless the trans dies. You have replaced all the normal wear stuff that would kill normal engines by 300K so I expect 400K and maybe even 500K if you replace the trans at some point. I thought the gauges being wonky were due to the stepper motors on these ? Do they have computer problems as well causing it ?
I went back and looked at the receipt from the dealer and it says they replaced the instrument cluster, not the computer. But I'm not sure why that would reset the odometer. 300k here we come!
@@KevinNadeau just like in the older analog days of odometer, the digital dash also stores the odometer in the dash itself. They have the ability to set the milage though at the dealership so not sure why they didn't. I am glad to hear it wasn't the computer. I sold mine but my sister just bought one with 120K miles so I watch your videos just in case a problem happens with hers. ( and in case I get another one some day. )

holy shit... how? mine's barely 150k and it's already been through three alternators. (2005 GMC Envoy SLT) yet.. my 07' Trailblazer is at 212k (had to replace the thermostat twice, and the alternator once)
👍 I’ve had to replace my thermostat twice also, but am still on my original alternator
3 alternators? So it just isn't me, but other than that, and routine maintenance, my 05 envoy has been good to me.

@@KevinNadeau 4x4 or 2wd? I’m trying to put a 2005 envoy 4200 vortec engine tranny in 2003 Tahoe 4.8. I’m trying to put the transmission in the Tahoe.
@@papergatorzfedducca7998 I don't know if that transmission is a direct fit for the Tahoe. There may be some slight differences, like the bell housing. I've never swapped transmissions so I'm not exactly sire what you'll need. Check out some online forums for assistance.

Sure is! I have around 325k miles on my Envoy now.
2005 Envoy XL 235000 daily work vehicle rear seats removed installed flat platform up to front seats. Packed full of construction tools. Best vehicle ever to date. This after a 99 Tahoe from hell. I didn't know you could actually get in daily without some ck eng light on or some other light flashing fix me.going to my grave with this one. Goa, of 400000. Its got 300000 in it easily. WTH discontinued!!!?
Did yours ever begin to stall at red lights and stop signs? My daughter's 04 does, we suspect mass air flow.
It has stalled on me once or twice. I cleaned the throttle body and haven't had any problems since. Maybe that could take care of your stalling issues too.

I had it only 3 yrs was so bummed it was my first and favorite truck!!! It has many new parts i have it still but prolly looking to sell it off for parts... she was good to me for those 3yrs though!!
