I've worked as a chef for 10 years. Every single head of executive I've ever had was like Gordon but slightly less angry. Hes one of the most decorated chefs in history. He has every right to be this angry, especially with these people who claim to be professionals. He's lovely to kids on child masterchef

He said "Commis" which is a french expression therefore the "s" at the end is silent ..meaning in the professional kitchen language such as "helper being in training/assistant being in training = basically "an apprentice" it is in the kitchen hierarchy the lowest rank....it has nothing to do with "communist" at all...
Everybody who is learning to become a professional chef starts at first as "Commis"..and has to prepare dishes for the food and easy helping tasks as like potatoe peeling (uncountable pounds on a daily basis) and cleaning veggies + cutting vegetables to the right size (uncountable pounds on a daily basis) and food pre-preparing things like that and at that level "a Commis" learns to handle knifes extremly professionally efficient and quick for instance..."A Commis" has simply to do just basic kitchen stuff before he got to learn "how to cook".
Then there is also the "Commis de rang" and that is no cooking apprentice but the french expression for an "avarage waiter" in a "high cuisine restaurant" who is assisting the "head waiter" = "Chef de rang" but also assisting a "Maitre" when it is in Hotels. In Hotels the "Maitre" is in the hierarchy above the "Chef de rang"

A commis chef (pronounced commie) is the most junior position for someone training to be a chef. Calling people 'muppets' is quite common here in the UK. By the way, have you seen Peter Kay's misheard lyrics? It's hilarious! You may have trouble with his Northern accent, though!

That was early days of Gordon opening his own restaurant in London. He was getting a sledging at the time in the media and a reputation for being a bully. They even sent an undercover reporter into his kitchen to expose him, I think he had just left as head chef of another top restaurant and his staff ie the guys he was screaming abuse at, left to go with him too because while he was notoriously volatile, they still wanted to work with him. The documentary was called Boiling Point, at the time he was still in pursuit of a coveted 3rd Michelin star. Its a fantastic documentary. Some of the staff went on to run their own successful restaurants..

Just to put things into perspective in one of the mid seasons there is the blue vs the reds each team has 1 professional chef to keep a watch over their teams while Gordon takes orders and runs the 'pass', he takes a look before passing the plates to the waiter. In one episode quite near the start when both teams have about 8 cooks they did so bad that Gorden sends them all out of the kitchen and then proceeds to do everything with just the 2 helpers. And just 1 chef on each side and Gordon helping where needed they got 30 covers out, that's orders from 30 tables of starters and a mains. Just 3 people.
So when a team of 8 can not send out more than 4 starters in 1 hour and 40 minutes then it's bad.
Ask your lady if it was Angela Hartnett who was a tough taskmaster.
She's the only female pastry chef I know that was trained by Gordon.

I agree it is a highly stressful environment but when these muppets are supposed to be top tier chefs and they can’t cook a chicken properly says a lot and again it is stressful and it will make or break you however the most important part of being a chef is health, not only are you providing and cooking food for someone but you could kill someone
For example on one table the father wants a ceaser salad with peanuts, the mum wants fried whitebait, and the son who is allergic to nuts wants pork slices.
Now let that sink in for a second, if the high class donkeys for instance, makes the ceaser salad but forgets to wipe the table counter then there is a possibility of cross contamination with the other foods for example some nuts might have gotten onto the pork either because someone didn’t wash their hands or because they had but crumbs lying about and a small piece got into the pork or it’s sauce if not then the muppet didn’t read the order correctly and so originally the pork chops had cashew nuts on it and in the sauce but failed to remove them and the kid gets a severe allergic reaction and dies from one simple mistake and the mother might have gotten a tape worn because the food wasn’t fully cooked giving her food poisoning

When I was still a chef, my go to was,,
"It's Hard To Soar With Eagles When They Give You Turkeys To Work With".
Life in kitchens is stressful enough without the uneducated interference of front of house Cockwombles (Waiters/Waitresses), plus customers who couldn't boil water, or make a proper brew, (Cup of tea/coffee).
In the catering business, the customer is NOT ALWAYS right.

It’s true and hilarious how even we in England have trouble understanding what other people are saying for example ever tried talking to a Londoner and then compare it to a scouse or a welsh accent
I ueerr urrr eeerrr uurrrr wwaaarr eeerreaar
    Or in English
I would like to subscribe to this channel and to hit the bell icon.
And this may sound extreme but it’s the truth🤣😂😂

No wonder his son , Jack , passed the very tough Commando course & became a Royal Marine Commando. Gordon actually wants people to excell , but dishes out a lot of " tough love " , not ot mention laughter !!

In the kitchen it is professional not personal. The kitchen can get extremely stressful so sometimes others in the kitchen experience it. Everywhere ive been the rule is if we fight or get in a shoving contest, we wait until we get through the rush pull the other to one side and settle it how you have to (whether talking it out, apologies or a quick altercation) then you get back to work and forgive each other.

Executive Chef > Expediter > Chef de cuisine > Sous chef > Chef de Partie > Commis chef > Porter > Exscuelerie.
Commis chef is basically the lowest rank in a restaurant which is still allowed to touch food.

You'd never believe watching this that Gordon is a very loving family man who adores his mother, wife and children! The reality though is that those who mess up just go and work elsewhere but Gordon's reputation and business are ruined.

P.S. The Muppet Show was made in my hometown in Hertfordshire England at ATV TV Studios where my sister worked. It is also the birthplace of Star Wars and Indiana Jones at Elstree Studios across the street from there. Sir Lew Grade head of ATV gave Jim Henson his start to fame.

Ramsey is trying to put the owner (I think I am a chef) on track. If you take your Beautiful lady for a meal at a top restaurant
and paid $1000 would you be happy waiting 1.5 hrs for the starter? You need the correct capable staff.

It's so different to our British version. IIRC we only had seasons and 2 'celebrity' seasons. The US has 20 seasons. lol. I'm sure he is just playing it up for the US audience. He does still shout and scream at people in the UK version it's no where near as much or as brutal as he is in the USA version. But you guys must love it. Over 300 episodes over there. I think we have less that 30. hahaha.

When Gorgon is saying the word commie, I think he might be taking about a Commis Chef.
If you don’t know, a Commis Chef is a chef who is training to become a Head Chef.
