R53 Mini Drivers door lock issue

- Sooo, I have put off looking at this for sometime, thinking I can do it tomorrow. Well now the door will not open from the inside!
The problem, sometimes the door will not open from the inside, works ok from the outside and usually flicking the unlock button allows the door to open...not any more! So it has to be replaced or I will be forever opening the window and reaching outside to open the door!
Your research work on my behalf is much appreciated. I was getting ready to take my door lock mechanism apart to see if something was stretching at that end. After seeing you finding yours still works if the cable is in the correct position I put my cell phone camera up and around in the door and found my cable was out of it's place too. It took about 15 minutes but I was able to open the plastic door and reattach it with one hand up in the door working in the blind but I got it done. Thanks

Great Job! Once you took them apart and I saw how it lined up, I was able to pop mine back into place. I suspected something was loose but could not see in there well enough. I cold feel the mechanism move with the handle so I thought it might be the cable. Your work was not in vain! Thanks again.

Well sort of, yes the lock now works, but the lock is not perfect….bought a replacement, just need to fit it

Nothing like shoving your hand into a cavity that you cannot see into and that is full of sharp edges…a breeze really, cannot wait to do it again!

I have an 05 mini cooper S with a dead battery. The key does not unlock the door when turned to a completely horizontal position and there is no feeling of resistance while turning it until I get to that horizontal stopping point. I think the lock mechanism may have an internal problem that doesn't allow the key to unlock it. Is there any other way to gain entry so I can pop the hood and charge the battery?
Oh, now that sounds like a challenge!! The best way will incur minor damage, but nothing terrible. Under the car there is a positive cable that comes out the battery box and runs along the left side of the car. This runs to your starter motor and the jump point under the bonnet/hood. You can put a pointed metal object into the cable and then use a battery booster to charge up enough to use the keyless entry. I noted someone else on YT has done this, they found the cable up near the front left wheel, but you can access this cable near the back as well. @@hyphensclassics Yes, thank you for responding. I found that video eventually and tried it but after a couple hours, I still got no response from the fob. When it's light again tomorrow I'll try it again for a longer time. Thanks again.

I own an old crashed R50 with remap. Next months I will do alot of thing to bring it back to the road.
If your car is to hard on the road. I suggest you to buy Eibach Springs. These springs are super comfortable.
