Napa has changed since I moved from Napa to Phoenix after I married in 95. I last visited in '13, enjoyed walking thru downtown. I like the Riverfront complex--I feel it blends in well with Napa's historic architecture. The two five story hotels downtown are a bit modern in comparison to the older downtown architecture. Good they were built tall enough, along with the new four story hotel on Soscol and First, to make efficient use of the available space downtown. It is a pity the downtown mall was not made two story and enclosed, Napa could have used the extra retail space downtown to make it more than a destination just for tourists now. I am also one of the rare ones that miss the fountain and clock tower--I loved the clock tower songs and sound, and relaxing at the fountain while taking the bus home from the junior college between 78-81. Sad it was retired, though I know maintenance was an issue. Overall I am happy that downtown Napa is not overdone and has a new purpose. Tourism adds nightlife, like that the Altamura's have offered at the Uptown, where I used to watch movies like "The Sound of Music" in the mid-60's. I was sad to see the 2014 earthquake caused so much damage, more than the '89 and 2000 quake and surprised such a strong earthquake could be centered so close to Napa and Napa's airport. I think it was a wakeup call, as the 2017 fire and last year's fires, about how Napa is subject to its environment and how Napans are also resilient.
When I was a kid I remember the fountain by the clock tower having soap bubbles and that was really one the purest moment of joy I sincerely cherish. I didn't know why they did that or if someone did it as a prank. I just thought it was so cool to see "snow" in Napa in the fountain. Yeah I really miss the clock tower too!
When I lived in Napa, I went to the Napa Valley Roasting Coffee shop: one of my favorite places to go, for tea, too. I haven't been there for about 19 years since I was in Southern California, Kansas, and Florida. Now, I'm in my hometown, Salem, Ohio.
Nice video my friend. 👍👍👍 ciao 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹
Grazie!
This was so helpful in planning my upcoming honeymoon, thanks!
