Muzan creates most of the Upper Moons, but there’s one that he actually didn’t recruit himself. In Demon Slayer we originally meet Kaigaku during Zenitsu’s backstory where we see the two training under the former Thunder Hashira, however Kaigaku already had a dark past before this, as he was orphaned at a young age and ultimately lived in a small temple with others like him, as they were all cared for by the Stone Hashira, Himejima Gyomei, until one day where Kaigaku stays out later than he’s supposed to and runs into a demon, trading the lives of everyone in the temple for his own, as he snuffs out the burning wisteria and allows the demon into the home with everyone inside. After training to learn Thunder Breathing, he leaves and runs into Kokushibo in an unnamed village, realizing that he stood no chance against the demon as he bowed his head. Kokushibo recruits Kaigaku telling him not to spill a DROP of Muzan’s blood and that it takes more for Breath users, but soon after Kaigaku becomes the SECOND Demon Demon Slayer, Upper Moon 6.

A lot of the slayers who are faced with a demon stronger than them cower in fear, knowing there is no way they will win. At least the other slayers don't sacrifice their family to survive. Nor do they decide to become a demon to gain power at the expense of their master's life. No, these weaker slayers admit their inferiority and choose to sacrifice their lives for the sake of humanity.

It’s slightly more nuanced then that, Kaigaku stole money from the temple, and when he returned the other orphans forced him out into the night alone(without Gyomei knowing). The area was known for constant demon attacks, so the other orphans essentially threw Kaigaku to the demons. When he was found by a demon, he was given an ultimatum, remove the wisteria protection to allow the demon to eat the other orphans or die. He obviously chose the former because they were the ones who put him in that situation, leading to the tragedy.
Edit: This is a year later, but for those saying thats not what happened in Season 4 its because its being told from Gyomei’s perspective and he didn’t have full context. This is in volume 17 and when Gyomei sees the souls of tbe dead Chuldren they straight up apologize and say they never should’ve forced Kaigaku out. As for why he didn’t just run inside the barrier? The demon was behind him on and they were on the outside of the barrier. He had to remove it from the outside of it, if he had tried to go in he just would’ve been killed.

Not only did he fight on equal terms with an Upper Moon, but he humiliated the guy throughout the entire fight
He dodged an attack and counterattacked so quickly that Kaigaku didn't even notice, took all forms of thunder breath reinforced by Blood demon art onto bare skin with a straight face and used a brand new thunder breathing technique he created himself, cutting Kaigaku's head so fast that he didn't even see what happened until he was alredy beheaded

What actually happened is that the orphans took him in, then he stole money from them, so they kicked him out of the temple. He basically wanted revenge on them because they didn't just let him steal their money.

Douma did the same thing with Gyutaro and Daki. Rui (lower 5) did the same thing with the spider family. Muzan usually doesn’t go around finding people to turn unless he believes they have the ability to conquer the sun. He actually has said in the manga that he hates creating demons. Most demons get turned by other demons that Muzan is ok with.

Gyutaro really felt like the more lethal of the two. While Kaigaku knows a breathing style he lacked Gyutaro's century of experience and likely greater power due to living for so long. I don't doubt Kaigaku could get stronger with time but the fact Zenitsu was able to beat him alone while Gyutaro mopped the floor with Tanjiro, Innosuke, Zenitsu AND Tengen says a lot.
Technically Daki and Guytaro werent transformed by Muzan either. Thats probably why them and Kaigaku were the weakest among the upper ranks.

The upper moon six position seems to have a tendency of being taken on by a demon that wasn’t created by Muzan himself, and instead a different demon in the upper moon. Maybe that’s why these demons take on the lowest position in the twelve Kizuki
If im not mistaken, pretty sure gyutaro was only at spot 6 because of daki who is much weaker and muzan hated. Otherwise i think gyutaro (one of muzans favorites) would have been a higher rank.

Just think about it, how many hashiras were killed by both Daki and Gyutaro. If Gyutaro was fighting alone, he would've finished off all these 3 immediately. It was because of Tengen, they were able to hold him off.
Zenitsu got lucky as Kaigaku didn't even spend that much time learning about his new powers. If he had almost 1 year. He would become OP af.

Gyutaro was kicking both their asses. Whereas daki was so weak that Tengen was able to behead her that easily.

He wasn't the only one Nuzan didn't recruit. That's a common thing with Upper 6's. The siblings were recruited by Doma and Kaigagu from Kokoshibo
he did not recruit daki and gyutaro as well! it was doma who made them demons and later muzan gave them his blood to make them upper moons
Gyotaro and Daki also werent made by muzan but from Doma when he was still upper 6
Oh yeah, at one point, I knew he had been one of the temple orphans that were cared for by Gyomei and ultimately let the demon gain entry to the temple in exchange for his own life but I somehow managed to forget that detail until seeing this. Well, I say somehow but I've recently been seeing a doctor specifically for other more serious inexplicable lapses in memory but there's been no answers as of yet.

If someone hurts others and they realize their wrongdoings is bad, they shouldn't have to pay for what others did to them...
In all honesty, society should realize that these unreasonable societal standards we have is exactly that: Unreasonable.
