I have an eastern box turtle we rescued her from a dog and when we took a closer look at her we noticed her shell was all scuffed up and then also noticed that she couldn't fully pull her right front leg into her shell so we took her in and now she's my pet and she's awesome :D p.s very picky eater also lol all she'll eat is live night crawlers and strawberries but I use a little trick to get her to eat her veggies.....I hold the worm up until she opens her mouth an then I slip the lettuce into her mouth :3 and yes it's very important to take turtle outside, please take your turtles outside :D

Awesome I rescued my skully my boy he was hit by car I fixed his shell he is thriving we got him a gf Iris female she eats earthworms he eats super worms they both picky I love them so much ❤️🐢
I’ve been doing a *LOT* of research of animals I’m interested in getting. If I feel I’m not going to commit (which I’m very much going to do to a pet I very much like) to a pet that I only like, and not love 💕 I will not put a pet through care that will not be as good as it can be

My mother's stepson found a turtle a couple of months ago and I believe it's a box turtle but they found it at a park abandoned and he just gave it up to me tonight and I don't know what to do I don't even know what species it is I've looked up hundreds of turtles and I cannot find one that looks like her I do know it's a female can anyone please help me
I always tell people if you find a box turtle. They Are Not Lost! they know their way & how to survive. Leave them be & let them go on living their natural lives. We do more harm keeping them in captivity than good.
Your video just reinforces what I am doing at the front yard. I am creating a butterfly garden enclosure for a future box turtle. I am saving up on cement blocks to create an enclosed space of 7ft by 16ft, which is perfect for a turtle that grows normally about 5-7 inches long. I am getting plants in pots that scares away predators such raccoons, possums and cats in the area. Though I would never leave a friend outside alone. I'm very protective of my reptilian buddies. The enclosure is for an hour to two hours of enrichment. Think of it as turtle playground. 😎
I respect wish I could do an outdoor enclosure for mine. But we just have too many hawks around. My house is by a field loaded with rabbits and now we have hawks everywhere. Don’t want my turtle getting snatched up
My box turtle has disappeared from his outside enclosure. We’re not sure if he escaped or if he’s buried. We assume he’s buried, so it’d be so helpful if someone could tell me how long they’ll usually keep themselves buried??
I just rescued a N.E.Box . Caught as a hatchling it spent 13 years in a glass tank . Its nails where over an inch . My problem is its beak need a huge trim and I know not how to do . Walmart hunting/fishin section has Night Crawlers an Meal Worms ( Scooby snacks ) other wise its native plants an Veg.. No banana or citrus .

Hello I was wondering is a terrarium bad for a box turtle little feet? I heard that the glass is bad for them or they dont like it something like that.
Hermann Blue and Roxy .... I'm currently making him plans for an outdoor enclosure but sadly Bc he's so deformed his vet (both of them) agree he doesn't have enough shell to protect him from the sun. He can sunburn 😭🐢 so he can only be out about a hour a day when the sun is out, or in the shade a bit longer, but he can't hibernate or be out all day and night! Koa's story is touching to me, I have an Ornate box Turtle that I got her from a girl at my school who picked her up on the side of the road and didn't know how to take care of her... she didn't have heat or UVB and not a big enough water dish(she also used a cardboard box as a hide). It's crazy to think if I didn't get her in those months after she found her she could have the same health problems as Koa...
Helena Cantu .... yes she would have been very deformed... sadly this happens everyday turtles taken from the wild. If Koa could survive on his own and wasn't deformed I would have tried to release him. But after 30 years he wouldn't make it.

My box turtle hasnt ate in months but he does drink water daily. Do you have any suggestions?
Worms are really good for them, Try blackberries and bananas. There really easy for them to eat.
