She also had the Tuskegee Airman fly her in their planes to prove to haters that black men were as capable as anyone else to operate airplanes, and in many cases EXCELLED in the aeronautical abilities as the proved over and over in WW2. They were a progressive family but she more than he when it came to racial or gender issues at all. She pushed him as far as she could though.
