Crawler Canyon Quick(re)view: RC4WD Interco IROK 1.9"

- My definition of "quick" might not fall in line with others. But I've got you know, things to say. I call these a "quickview" because it covers unboxing and initial testing. It does not speak to durability, longevity, etc.
This is the "quick" review of the RC4WD Interco IROK 1.9" scale tire. This tire is in X2SS compound, and does NOT have the typical hard-as-a-tooth RC4WD foam.

I have those iroks on my trx4 with squid inserts and they've been really good tires for me. The stock foams they came with deteriorated fast and fell apart in the tire. They've never touched water either, just the foam itself was shredding inside the tire.
When I wear out a set of my X2S3 compound tires I'll have to try some in X2SS to see if I like them better. I've never used X2SS because S3 is one S more.
I have already flipped around the tries on my TF2 Blazer, so they are getting close.
I have had a set of these for years and they have always impressed me. Good to see you concur.
They're close to matching the Baja Claw, but just lack the forward drive-- and I understand why. Excellent tire, though.
Another great, informative video! I think after all these tire reviews, you need to put up a chart that has all the tires ranked
Wish RC4WD would make the Goodyear Wrangler MT in the X2SS. It is a good trail tire in the X2S3 but it requires more wheel speed to get up some of the harder rock sections we crawl.
I have come to the concussion that the "Scale Tires" usually make a decent trail tire and the PL Hyraxx Predator Compound and JConcepts Tusks in Green Compound are like a friggin mountain goat.

I bought one of those 3:1 planetary reduction gear boxes for rc crawlers. I'm gonna install it this weekend with a 9imod 2250 kv outrunner on 3s. Might be a fun video to install and test one? I just imagine a MOUNTAIN of driving and drag brake torque with microscopic low throttle resolution. Could be fun.
My worst nightmare is trying ta put deepwoods on rc4wd deep dish wagon wheels 😔 😢 never again , I spent 3 days 5hours per day and they still pop out , I gave up, you couldn't pay me to go through dat again.
I wish I could send you a set of my rc4wd attitude m/t. I'd like to see what they could do in the canyon. It's an unsuspecting tire that does good in everything

I love these tires. I recently put some squid inserts in them, haven't had a chance to test but I'm extremally hopeful.
I'm running these tires with squids on one of my rigs and they hook up great, even on a fairly heavy truck
Curious, have you stretched 1.9 rubbers on 2.2 wheels? I know it's not scale and technically correct - just wondering because I'm contemplating stechhing 1.5's onto 1.9's..
Sure have. It’s a way to cheat better side hill out of a tire that likes to fold over. Junkbot has knockoff Rock Beast 1.9s stretched onto skinny 2.2s. They look awful.

Rok Looks are a bit smaller in OD and are not licensed. They are very similar though.
Did you vent those tires? Seem bouncy
Vented as always. Foam is a bit too stiff for the thickness of the carcass- foam density a bit better suited to the Baja Claws, which are thinner all around.
Rc4wd wrangler at very skinny. Great grip for all terrain
Tried to like these tires, enough grip but they tear too easy, and wear out instantly.
Not suitable for long trail runs(3-5 miles at a time)
Do you do much crawling with that rig or mostly trail running? I've found their X2S3 compound holds up extremely well on trails, it's just not great for rock crawling. I've got a set of their Wrangler MT/R's that are getting close to 100 actual miles on them and they've still got a lot of life left, but they're on a rig that I just take on hikes through the woods with the kids...they'd be underwhelming for anything other than trail runs or hill climbs, as they're not great at the slow stuff.
Lol you tested 1 of 2 compounds, on a used set of krawlers for 30 minutes, and now every tire you test you say it's better. I know you hate proline, but people love the krawlers for a reason. They've been winning comps for years for a reason. Also tusk are a scale tire as well.
If a tire fresh out of the package is better than a worn-in Krawler, it’s better. Every defense of the Krawler is “put this insert in it” or “put that insert in it,” when it getting more consistent performance out of an open cell single stage that doesn’t suit the rig remarkably well. X2SS is a better compound than either ProLine offering, and I say that objectively. Predator is the compound you want if you want your tires to dry rot before the lugs wear down. Every other brand that offers something exotic still manages to get tread life out of their tires. ProLine is never winning me back, because they just keep leaning into the same dodgy shit they’ve been doing for ages. Paper thin lexan, tires that wear out faster than everyone else’s, and a price structure like they’re providing genuine cachet. FOMO:zero.
@Crawler Canyon You've never tried G8 compound? An old worn out tire isn't going to be as sticky as a new tire, but feathering does help. I can pull up a hundred predator compound tires with the lugs worn off, on facebook groups, without dry rotting, and about a dozen bad ones that did dry rot. Majority in the UDR groups. I've noticed all of those cases seem to be from shelf queens that's just sit on a shelf for an extended period of time. The rc4wd iroks on my trx4 have worn down at about the identical rate as the predator compound on my phoenix. I got some new G8 krawlers I'm going to test on one of them, not sure which yet.
I agree 100% about the body's being weak, and I'm not buying their body's either lol. I strongly dislike RC4WD, but I'll still use their tires or something I can't find elsewhere.
Prices does go up when paying for licensing fees vs just ripping off other companies like china/Amazon tires does. Even RC4WD has to add licensing fees into their licensed tires.
I got some tusk 4.75's off ebay for $30 per pair, and already ordered some squids for them too. Can't wait to try them out.
@@TheAmericanUhate Once you try a Squid'd Tusk, i'ts gonna be real hard for you to go back to Krawlers. Different league.
Experience is relative, and if my years of crawling have taught me anything it's that sometimes a tire that works as well as anything for one person can be another person's worst tire (Pitbull tires seem to be extremely guilty of the "work great" or "don't work at all" phenomenon), but in my opinion Krawlers are a product of fanboydom....actually, I feel way about pretty much every Proline tire I've tried (which includes Krawlers, Swampers, Hyrax, Flat Iron XL, Trenchers and a few others). I've tried both compounds in most of those tires, and a plethora of inserts/foams here in the Midwest crawling mostly Sandstone, Shale and Limestone, and they're simply not worth the price. Don't get me wrong, they're a "good" tire, but when you compare them to other offerings that are almost $10/pair cheaper that outperform them, they move from "good" to "overrated." Their Predator compound does outperform the G8 compound, but then I'm lucky to get a season out of a set of Predator tires before they start to rip, especially once summer hits...if Proline tires were in the $25-ish a set range, I would say they're definitely worth it, even if G8s were the only ones offered at that price point, but once you get north of $30, expectations go way up, as I'm now expecting them to outperform the likes of Tusks and Ruptures. Furthermore, though a Squid or a good dual-stage foams does elevate something like a Tusk, everything from JConcepts performs very well on its stock foam...I would consider the foams in Prolines a "need to replace," so there's another ~$20 minimum that you're putting into a set. Horizon does one thing very, very well...marketing; and everything under their umbrella has a fanbase who will ruthlessly defend their products regardless of the shortcomings (similar to how people defend that Vanquish beadlocks are worth $70/pair without hubs).
@Crawl Everywhere You're taking the hobby far too serious if $7 dollars difference means you should get a massive performance increase & several years of use on a set of tires. Tires are a consumable product, meaning they aren't meant to last forever. This hobby isn't cheap. I do agree there is a lot of fanboydom in the hobby. Especially with Vanquish and Gmade as well. VP is definitely overrated on a lot of their products, but not all. I love their axles and VFD transmissions, but hate their shocks and prices. I use the good and don't use or buy the bad. Just part of the hobby, it is only that, a hobby. Rc4wd makes some horrible products, but some of their tires are alright, and their hard body's are nice. Everything is kinda hit or miss with most every company in the hobby. Shit happens and life goes on. This hobby isn't cheap and nothing is going to be perfect, and certainly not for everyone.
