    It’s whole lot easier to stay loyal when the loyalty is mutual. Problem is many teams and fans want that loyalty to go one way (player to franchise, city and them) and feel because the players make a lot of money that it’s ok and they should just take it.

      C’s much better with kemba. Kyrie can’t lead a team, he’s too selfish. Kemba came from a huge role in Charlotte and had absolutely no problem adjusting to more of a facilitator role rather than the only option, and he has no complaints at all and seems very happy. Kyrie’s selfishness didn’t work out on a team with that much talent, he needs to be the only guy on a team or he’ll be unhappy. Just wait until KD comes back from the injury, if he’s still good I guarantee kyrie doesn’t stay on the nets

    Loyalty also comes with good teams, dirk consistently had good teams from his draft to arpunf 2014. Tim duncan was drafted into david robinson than manu and parker, duncan had a good team his whole career for the most part. Kobe was drafted into the lakers, an extremely well run franchise AT THE TIME, he had shaq for 8 or so years and when they got bad around 2006, he wanted out. Then the lakers got Pau Gasol and kobe stayed. After 2012 he had no reason to leave even though the team was bad. The lakers paid him and he stayed through his injury. Loyalty for the most part doesnt have to the player, unless your backstabbers like kyrie, who litterally got a free trip to the finals ever year and were prolly gunna win eventually on the cavs. And kd had a top 3 team in the league but you know how that went.
    This took awhile.

At the same time tho, we really did Demar dirty. He wanted to stay in Toronto his whole career, and to this day I still kind of miss him. Loyalty is overrated. If the franchises aren't loyal because they want to make a good business move and we accept it we shouldn't be getting mad at players who aren't loyal because they want to make a good move that benifits them. I dont understand thios "Players should be loyal but teams shouldnt". Doesnt make sense to me

  • @david.tousignant20
    @david.tousignant20 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One example.
    DeMar DeRozan. He was loyal and was burnt by it.
    The new CBA created that : owners, GM's and fans aren't loyal.
    Even, in the earlier CBA, players asked to being trade to other organizations when they weren't happy as early as 1960s : Wilt Chamberlain, Earl Monroe, Kareem... It was their only option and they opted for the trade.
    Another CBA, signed in the early 1990s, allowed players to benefit more freedom of movement. That's why players like Barkley, Mullin [etc.] were traded after they requested to move.
    And in the summer of 1996, MJ talked with the Knicks organization because they offered him more $ than his Chicago Bulls... Of course, Chicago double the offer made by New York afterwords.

    That thing with Demar.. What people overlook is that Masai gave them chances over the years. He held on to Demar. Took Demar at his word and gave him the team. It always led to the same result. As a GM, it's not then disloyal to make a move which only had one outcome - championship results. The *only* shade thrown was that week leading up, he-said-he-said about the whole not willing to trade thing. But after seeing Masai plant his roots in TO last week to continue as Prez, you gotta think that Masai knows what loyalty means.

  • @glyle2504
    @glyle2504 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It never existed. Teams could always move whoever they wanted. The minute Isaiah Thomas got traded-AND THEN Demar Derozan and Blake Griffin and Westbrook, etc.-players decided if they can be forced to move away from their families or move their families, they might as well do it and go where they want to. Plus with the teams being as great as they are at the top of the league, you’re completely stuck if you’re on half of the teams in the league. People used to not move because they couldn’t move. But throughout history if you could move you did.

    I feel like a lot of poorly run franchises are poorly run because of the immense pressure to keep your stars. It’s hard to run a team well when you’re backed into a corner trying to make sure every move is good for the team and pleases your star. On top of that, I don’t feel like small market teams can really be blamed for being unable to put together super teams to keep their stars. For example, free agents aren’t signing with Milwaukee to play with Giannis, even though he’s the mvp. But as soon as he leaves to go to a big market, guys will be lining up to play with Giannis. It’s not Milwaukee’s fault that players don’t perceive their town as a fun place to be. Players having as much power as they currently do is just ruining small market teams

    Agree entirely. Look back to the Bulls. Slowly the NBA is becoming more of a player league than a franchise league like the NFL. The orgs. Been fucking w players for years. Now they dont care about switching teams to play with friends or get rings why tf not if the old dude in a suit can trade you whenever.
    Lebron really set the foundation. Magic, Bird, Kobe, Mike. The previous “faces” of the league stayed loyal. Lebron (rightfully so) left the terrible Cavs and their front office in the dust and went to Miami.

    Two factors the money issues is not relevant: 1) TV Contracts (shared revenue) have inflated team net worth by over 100%. 2) If you compare 1980 USD versus 2017 is disproportional = $100 in 1980 → $297.48 in 2017.

    I dont think people were upset at Durant just because he left OKC, I think its the fact that he left Westbrook hanging after he had made comments on wanting to stay, he also left to join a team that had already won a championship without him. Kawhi left a team that he was traded to with really no links, he gave them what they wanted and so its acceptable to leave to another team that hasnt shown much success. Unlike KD, Kawhi delivered when giving his franchise a chip.

    What i know is this. Regular players seek for the best deal. But only the GREAT players are of such a talent that they are able to dictate what team they stay on and build a legacy and Glory. To be a legend. To take a franchise that is so low and with your so great a talent Build it up and bring it up to such heights and bring it Glory. Thats why i always respected Reggie Miller. Even though he never won a ring. Only the Absolute Greatest players have this ability. The rest are just players.

I think now it’s predictable you know who going to be in the finals because the best players are all on the same team. No excitement and nobody wants to beat there rival they want to join them. Yeah part of me is stuck in the 90’s but MJ Pat Ewing, Shaq etc. wanted to beat each other. And only play together in all star games and olympics

    Magic would have warned 42500000 adjusted for inflation!

  • @beesutton1717
    @beesutton1717 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Inflation and the player union is also why players get paid so much nowadays in general. plus it's some of the most selling entertainment world wide (no offense, that's why they get paid more than WNBA, because all the T.V. contracts, Endorsement deals, and the money that actually comes in from those contracts, and the crowds each NBA team can draw in on average A NIGHT and all the concessions, merchandise, and things bought AT the game afterwards, plus now that teams have actual sponsors on their Jerseys like Nascar, that probably helps money wise too, even though I know the WNBA has sponsors as well.) People overall just have to take into account, yeah, this is basketball, a sport all of us love (or wouldn't watch this video hahaha). But now, if you couldn't tell with how on the 'post-season' ALL of us are on it now this year, with the draft and free agency, this is an entertainment business as much as anything else at this point now, and it's THRIVING, because it kinda seems like a T.V. reality show, but it's REAL, and it has a future for all of us as NBA fans. And that equals ratings, which equals money. I know it's nonsense rambling at this point. I'm just saying, if you ad the fact of the league being as much an entertainment industry as it is a league now, and inflation of money in general, plus the player union, it's a perfect storm for an NBA player right now to get PAID no matter the rules put in place. That's why they can go where they please.

And he threatened to leave LA if they didn't bring in bigger stars to help him win his 4th and 5th ring after he basically made them choose between trading him or Shaq. Kobe definitely had the drama queen element to his loyalty.
