I had access to a place like that a few years ago. A small private pond full of bass that no one ever fished. At first they would ravenously hit anything I threw at them. But I released them all, and they learned very, very fast. After about four or five days fishing the place, I had to be really inventive and start changing things up to even get a bite. I was impressed by how quickly the fish responded to negative reinforcement.

Greg: When landing your drone in sketchy areas, let it hover just above/near you and CAREFULLY grab from underneath. Once you grab a hold of it, press down on the stick to kill the propellers, and you're set! I learned this trick a few years back. I wouldn't do the auto landing on water as well. I heard it confuses the sensors? I also recently took my drone "swimming". They do pretty well being submerged.

Glad you were able to recover your drone. Hope it's still flyable.
    A public service story:
I once went fishing with a buddy on Nacimiento , CA in March; he was taking a few steps on his boat and had ALL his rods and reels in his hand, stumbled and fell in! He surfaced once still clutching his rods. Went under the surface came up a second time without his rods. The water was cold. I was able to grab him and with a lot of difficulty was able to work him around to the motor and he was able to climb back in. After he had recovered from the shock, we started throwing weighted treble hooks, dragging the bottom trying to snag the rods, where we THOUGHT they were, water was ~ 20 ft deep, but no luck. A very long and bummed drive home.
Seeing the difficulty he had getting back in the boat I ordered and installed a boarding ladder on mine. Went back to the spot three times with a mask, snorkle and fins to try to recover his stuff. No luck. Couldn't see more than a foot. On my fourth attempt now about 7 months later, I went back. The water had been drawn down below were we had been fishing. Beached my boat and walked to the area. Spent a lot of time walking around and finally discovered his gear. In the initial confusion of falling in and getting him back aboard, we had drifted significantly. Turns out we weren't dragging the right place. The rods looked no different than all the dead vegetation, covered in dead dry plants, very hard to see. You had to know you were looking for fishing rods to detect them.
Returned his gear. He was only able to salvage two of the rods. The reels had FILLED with mud and most of the corks on the rods had deteriorated. Ugly and sad story but true.
    A few lessons learned:
    - good idea to always have an inflatable vest on at all times.
    - Good idea to have a way of easily getting back aboard and try using it before you are in an emergency.

I respect the fact that you say it’s a pond and it is easy to catch fishes there. Unlike some other TH-camrs who mainly fishes ponds like this and make all sorts of claims.

Me and my friend found this farm pond a couple hundred feet off the road. Right around another well known fishing spot in our state. One day while everyone was at the recreational spot fishing me and him snuck over to farm pond. He caught a 6 pounder and a 7.13 pounder his first 4 cast. I caught 2 5s and I couldn’t tell you how many 2s-3s. Untouched locations are better kept secret haha

Reminds me of fishing the PG&E run off pond before it goes into the River system. Even the “Flying Lure” would work but Rooster tails are the best.

Look at the at least you were not on the delta or a deeper lake. You were able to get it back. On Amazon they sell foam landing legs (I guess that’s what it’s called) for drones. Maybe look into that for your drone. You could probably make your own.
Your boy Eric is cool. He handled it like a champ!!
Thanks for the videos. They are informational and encouraging.

I feel your pain friend!! Had to do the same with a mavic pro out of my lake!! Got it, disconnected the battery, dried it out for a few days and it started right back up!! 👍🤣🤣 Minus the battery it was a win!!

What a day! Sure beats those tough days on the delta when it seems like the fish just aren't biting on anything. But it seems that you don't have many of those anymore either! Learning a ton from watching you fish, from new baits to try out to hookset techniques for different lure types. Great stuff, Greg. Keep it coming!

Those private water bites are insane man. Nothing more exciting than a buddy saying, "I know a guy who lets me fish his place all the time..." Hoping you get invited as well haha!! Good stuff Greg, much love from Texas!

Reminds of some of the untouched farm ponds I’ve fished. Top water and big baits are my go to in places like this where they eat anything ya throw. That drone was wet way longer than it needed to be! Jump in and get that mofo Greg!
