Leave your thoughts on the fencing & the bout in the comments 😃 I would love to hear.
Two of the most interesting men's foil fencers on the circuit for their creative and modern approaches to fencing, this bout is a rematch of the Table of 16 bout at the Tokyo Olympics where Shikine beat Choi to advance to the quarter finals.

Excellent analysis! I was a little curious on the first point though. I note the call was overturned on review, however for me, Choi loses his PIL priority as soon as he withdraws his arm. Shikine thereafter immediately attacks, so I think the original call was the correct one.

The ref didn't give that hit to Choi as a point in line hit. The logic is:
-Choi puts out the point in line, so shikine searches for his blade and stops for a bit.
-Choi takes the opportunity while Shikine is searching to start his own attack (the searching is a preparation which can be attacked into).
-Shikine tries to attack too late after Choi started.
To be fair to both sides it's a close call, I agree to give it it Choi personally.

Shikine's first hit really is one of those ones where you wonder yourself how you got that to work. Nice video on a great topic: what to do when nothing seems to be working.
