They have done a Fruits Basket remake. This manga deserves a better remake. I wish we could crowd fund it. It was a really amazingly written manga wish superb but realistic characters. Everyone was so flawed and relatable. I read it at a time when I was about the same age as Arima and Miyazawa so I could really relate to the angst. Even now, I think I think I can relate to the adults and their poor decisions in the story. I just read through some of the KareKano manga today because I was watching the new Fruits Basket. Fingers crossed for a remake...
I remake would be amazing. Kare Kano had very creative visual shots and storytelling even thought the animation was iffy at times -- expected of Hideaki Anno's directing work. I want to see Arima falling for Miyazawa again.
I watched it a couple of years ago when I was still in grade school...now I'm in college, I just rewatched it 2 days ago and holy fuck now I remember how intense the storyline was. I read the manga and it gets DARK, really really DARK. Still one of the best and most realistic romance anime of all time.
What i really liked about it was not only the humor, or how well the characters were written, but also the fact that it used cell hand drawn animation, that just looks far better then digital animation that is typically aided by cgi these days, to me it just lacks character when compared and is far to sterile, i like seeing those little mistakes, or the cells moving scene by scene, even the washed out colors, they need to make shows with hand drawn animation again, it is just more pleasing to the eyes even dispite every now and again seeing little defects, it just shows an actual human being worked on the damn thing, it seems more expressive, even if it is limiting in some ways, it only makes people more creative. The art style besides how it was created is great as well in general, the character design was pretty badass.
Well, if you asked any animator that animated the characters by hand, they rather use current CGI-aided animation technic than hand drawn animation, because animation by hand is tiresome.
This is still one of the best shoujo anime I have seen... Until the end, really. I can overlook this, though, due to the realistic writing of the main characters and even some of the minor ones. It's a real shame that Masami Tsuda thought the focus on comedy was simply too much, which I highly disagree with. While some scenes were exaggerated (the episode where Tsubasa kicks a car into the air), but I feel that it helped the story progress during the more slice of life movements.
Yes. Some part of me wishes Anno went to remake Kare Kano instead of making Eva movies. NGE was great as it was; whatever flaws it had. But Kare Kano never got a movie that tied up loose ends (like End of Evangelion did for NGE)
Hehe yup... this is exactly how a first-time viewing of the show seems to go. I wrote a nearly identical (though far less detailed) review the first time I watched it back in '08. The last stretch of episodes is truly disappointing... at least, the first time. After 7 years to get over the initial shock, I rewatched the show. I skipped all the recap scenes, and then I got to the last 8 expecting the worst... but it wasn't really *bad.* Like, if you think of the show as ending in ep 18 (which would have been pretty satisfying of an ending), and then think of the rest as like an omake, then it's not so bad. I think those episodes are only annoying because 1. they're like half the speed of pacing compared to the rest of the show, and 2. the lack of conclusion. The actual plot points raised aren't bad though, and the characters are still great. I've seen much, much worse from final arcs... see the 12-episode filler arc of Nadia which completely ruins the characters to the point that the amazing ending doesn't even have impact anymore.
Yeah, I feel like it definitely would have stung less if I saw it coming. It just sucked that the very moment I really started loving this show was when it turned on me. Also realising that Tsubasa's step family was never gonna be brought up again was the most frustrating thing, so watching them waste episodes on anime-original stories about stalkers was particularly infuriating
I'm only 12 episodes in, I got hyped because Digi kept hyping it up, I've been on a down low in terms of anime lately, ever since watch 70 since Christmas. I'll finish it eventually and probably enjoy it more with my expectations set. Great vid dude.
most shoujo manga inspired series are like this (sadly). whenever you start one get ready to switch to the manga. ao haru ride is a good example of this

Kare Kano: A tale where a girl and a boy fall in love with each other, but also they heal each other's trauma and shortcomings. The girl does more in this part. SPOILER(It can be found in Wiki): Before they get married because of a shock pregnancy from Yukino, Arima finally resolves his parental issues with his own biological parents. Sadly the anime ended SUPER ABRUPTLY, because the director didn't want to do it anymore.
