Ya know this is the type of shit I love, Tom is a fuxking huge inspiration to me so hearing this is just so motivating to me. I have this huge as Google doc and I have been just working on for two years of this flesh punk/ dungeon crawler dark fantasty world thing and I was making it a comic, kept bouncing off that idea, then I went to wanting to make a it a ttrpg, and I think that could work but...God it's just a lot of shit to decide and then you need to put the work into it. However I want to it to be seen and I want to share it to the world whatever it is which means Gotta Do the Work. So thanks for this podcast and the episode I'm going to get back to work
And now that you have had Tom as a guest, I think that makes WWD the foremost representatives for LANCER. lol also glad to see “Lancerfest” is cannon. I think you cats hit on the allegory of “The perfect pot” (a teacher who teaches pottery has two classes. One class they give unlimited access to textbooks, tutorials and internet, but they only need to make one, perfect pot to pass the class. The other class, is given no books, internet access or instruction. They will be graded on the quantity of pots they make. Ie, they make 75 pots they get 75%. Needless to say, by the end of the year, everyone in the first class fails. They have not made any successful pots, let alone a good one. The second class not only all passes, but for some of the students, they DID make perfect pots. Just because you have knowledge, and ideas does not mean you have a skill. So yeah, make stuff! DO STUFF! Eventually it will be good! lol also good to know Tom plays Pathfinder. I’m waiting for him to create a KSBD campaign setting for the system! Make it happen! I will also agree, 4th ed had a big thematic disconnect for me. Fighters could ONLY do sword and shield or two handed weapons. You have an ability you can only do ONCE A DAY (you know, like how in the army, or MMA fighters can only do moves once a day 😝). When you reframe that as a mech, it thematically makes sense. A small mech can only use small-specific weapons. I mech can only have the power/resources to do a special attack once before needing to be reloaded. I have high hopes for ICON making that system work for a fantasy setting. Great episode, but Tom as one dad to another watch the swearing! Had to mute this episode in a parts 😝
I disagree with (skill + luck)/ time. It seems more like time(skill + luck). You can have skill or luck, but time devoted consistently is dominant. Do that thing you care about several days every week!
TANSTAAFL: While I can understand a lifelong artist having strong feelings about AI art, it's not the easy button people think it is. Sure you can easily churn out obvious/bad stuff in high volume, but to get anything good and/or specific you're still subject to the skill+luck/time equation, just in a different format. Like most tech, it's a lever not a magic wand. Give it a year and people are going to start to grok that...or we will be up to our asses in NHPs 😂
Lol I think your right to an extent. People should just dedicate time en effort into stuff and I totally understand if people cannot afford or do have the ability to create art, but like people can try. Its just effort and time, that's it take to get good. But if I am wrong praise our NHP overlords!!!
Interesting🤔 Seeing the Stuff that Tom produces, I felt like this stuff was made especialy for me... Like it is exactly what I was looking for, without knowing it. Listening to this Podcast I realized that he is basicaly like me, around the same Age, common interrests, etc. No wonder I love his Stuff👌 Also Im a Roofer, so I realy enjoyed the House building Stuff😂
