    What I like most about this channel is the process. Diagnosis, repair (right down to this is how you tap on this dust cover to replace it), test. I have a 2014 F150. I thought the hill assistant was a gimmick add-on when I bought the truck new but has become my favorite feature. Was watching a professional mechanic a few years ago who said he sold his F150 because it clunked from a dead start. Didn’t know it was hill assist and didn’t read the owners manual and sharing all his knowledge to the World Wide Web. I like Kenney’s no ego, matter of fact, no fluff, get to it approach. Thanks for taking time to document your process and experience.

    I am experiencing the same thing in my 2017 Mustang 110%, I could not believe a bad wheel bearing could cause all of this. I have an appointment in 2 days to get my rear driverside bearing hub replaced, hoping there isn't another underlying issue, but you demonstrated the exact same problem/resolution. Definitely feel more at ease, thought I would have to do power steering rack next. I didn't believe the diagnosis, because none of this happened when I had a really bad front right bearing hub. Thank you for the video!

      Update, after getting quoted 1200 from Ford... My local wheel shop did it for 650 taxes in. all but traction control fixed instantly, took 3 drives before the computer registered the problem to be alleviated and power steering returned 100%.

    this was educational for sure to find out a bad wheel bearing can cause so many other error codes. The scary part is there are mechanics out there that see them and try fixing every code for the big $$$$ payout.

    The problem with all of these safety systems being integrated is the way a small problem can take the entire system down. As the present crop of new vehicles age, it's going to be harder to keep older vehicles on the road.

      Though I do agree that disabling sonar sensors because of a bad abs sensor is ridiculous, I'm against driving vehicles with a wheel bearing that bad - I wouldn't want any system of a car disabled if the fault is not within that system, however I do wish drivers are more aware of their vehicles.
      As for keeping older vehicles on the road, I think there are bigger problems than this issue, anti-repair and parts shortage come to mind...

    Ohh.. bonus, since you touched on emptying capacitors, and the scanner providing power.. i have noticed on a few makes, that the launch has a "KAM" function. I know you know what KAM is, but for the youngin's, it stands for Keep Alive Memory. There's a special tool that plugs into the cigarette outlet on older OBD1 cars, and some that plug into the DLC for OBDII cars. Very useful tool. Not used for too many things, but usefull when needed.

    Hi Kenny I’m also a mechanic in perth Western Australia have had similar experiences with scanning tools showing up a bunch of codes I sometimes ignore everything on scanner and have a good visual under the car and in the engine compartment sometimes have found a plug not connected or things not connected properly. on the abs wheel sensors I check the ohms resistance with an multimeter open circuit means it has to be replaced. Great video keep up the videos there is always new things to learn no matter how long you have been in the trade I myself have been in the trade for 45 years and still learning regards peta

  • @bigrenegade7121
    @bigrenegade7121 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Kenny. When clearing codes from the Health Report screen, it is going to prompt you to clear the code every time it reaches a fault code. The prompt is to make sure you want to clear that code. I'm guessing this is so you can clear those that have no fault code and only keep those with fault codes.

    • @WrenchingWithKenny
      @WrenchingWithKenny  ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually record the codes, clear them & see which ones come back first. Many times, those returning codes create all the other problems. Followers asked about an "affordable" scanner. I did some research & came up with that one. It would be difficult to do a side by side comparison at this point. The Snap On scanner isn't cost-effective for someone who doesn't work on different makes/models consistently

    What I've found if a car has a wheel bearing going bad and the wheel speed sensor is integrated into it, it will set a code for that wheel because when the bearing starts to fail, first thing it will do is take the sensor out. Makes identifying which bearing is bad easy

    All those come because there is no wheel pulses, as all of them need to count pulses to do things like self park, and to see the vehicle is stopped for park brake to activate. EPS likely was a weak battery, not driving because of the issue, so battery voltage dropped too low for the EPS to allow full power.

    With all the vehicle safety systems all interlinked now just having one sensor down will shut down all safety systems related to those systems, I have seen abs vdc feb dynamic control etc all shut down because of 1 wheel having very low tyre pressure, also the multi cascading cluster codes as i call them due to voltage being below 11.2 volts on crank will also cause chaos. and customers still think they can fix their own vehicles with a hammer and screwdriver.

    One component can send you down a diag rabbit hole when it trips other components. You need to do detective work and narrow down a common thread. As another great technician on this here TH-cam says, modules will tell on other modules, find the easiest one to access and test, and you’ll probably fix all the other problems. I, myself, thought you would find a bad ground, seeing the battery voltage code in the ABS. My guess was wrong, but that’s why you test, not guess.
