I have Ostheimer figurines (animals+people figurines and trees etc) that I display in some areas of my house as decor as I really enjoy them (they are personally my own toys and I'm passionate about them and enjoy them a lot ). Since I do have quite a few figurines (I rotate my decor) I'm intending to let my daughter play with some of those when she is older if she likes them (since she's currently still a baby she won't be playing with them )...however, I noticed that some parents say their children (like yours), seem to like plastic animal figurines better.....Sorry but I'm going to ask a stupid question (since I'm a first time mum) --> but how did you know your kids connected more with the plastic animals vs wooden ones? (did you give them both at once to play and they always went for the plastic ones? Or did did you give them wooden figurines first then saw that they didn't even play with them at all so purchased the plastic ones for them to try?)....Also, do the animals/figurines in your home get played with a lot? I always see some Montessori videos on youtube showing like HUGE tubs of plastic schleich/safariLTD animal figurines (lots and lots of animals inside) raving how important they are for development but with so many figurines I just wonder if kids play with them all the time or do they only play with certain animals occasionally? Also, I see in your videos you seem to have both holztiger and plastic figurines...do the plastic figurines hold up better for kid's play vs wooden figurines in your own experience?
I love that you have them and are a collector! I realized there are certain toys that are for me, and we no longer give them as gifts to the kids because I want to be able to fairly resell, and because my kids don’t like them as much as I do, haha!!! Ostheimer would fall into that category for my family because have never touched the very few pieces we have. Ostheimer is STUNNING and true art. Some of the toys are purchased for decor in my house haha and maybe get a little play. Nothing wrong with that. The more expensive life is and the more kids we had I am losing the ability to buy toys for myself haha and that’s okay. I love that you already love Ostheimer! Maybe your child will love them because I know a lot of children do. 🙏🏻 as far as Montessori animals, that pedagogy teaches that animal toys should be highly realistic in a way that really only plastic allows. Bunny toys actually published a post about the difference today!!! Check it out! Personally, my kids will play with our bin of Schleich and my childhood rubber/plastic animals all the time, and they have never once reached for the few wooden animals we have. No rhyme or reason, that’s just their preference. That’s part of the amazing fun and mystery of all this: every child and family is unique!!! Thank you so much commenting!
