What is the purpose of the grub screws? Just to hold parts in place during fabrication?
Keep up the great work with this series.

Yes... just to hold everything still for the cross drilling.
      Thank you for your comment.

Morning Chef, can I ask if you’re keeping the roll pins or if you intend to replace with hardened taper pins in the final assembly. Like you I’m just a hobbiest (although you’re probably far more experienced than I am), but I’ve seen so many roll pins come loose and brakes are quite an important feature after all. I see tapered pins being used regularly for holding this sort of assembly together and they are removable if needed, but they don’t give or work loose once tapped home. You will of course need a tapered reamer to suit (they come in a huge variety of sizes for different applications/shaft sizes). Will be interested in your thoughts. Cheers, Nick

      Hi Nick,
Following the drawings, there are only roll pins needed. I will add that the ones I have used are a hammer fit, so I think that they will stay put. The brake on the loco is only a parking brake at the best of times, as the train brake is on the tender. As much as taper pins are a great idea, I will monitor the roll pins once the loco is in use and revisit as needed. It might be as simple as using a drop of medium thread lock to just hold them in place. Thanks for your comment. Just for a bit of research, may I ask... are you a subscriber or a watcher (not subscribed)?

Definitely a subscriber Chef - following your work with the greatest of interest - great standard of videography and (more importantly) your engineering solutions are a great learning tool.
