  • If you are in a building during an earthquake, the way the building is constructed and your position in the building can have an impact on the shaking you feel. This means you may experience an earthquake differently from someone only a few buildings away.
Why is it important to learn about how human-made structures fare during an earthquake? More than 143 million people are exposed to potential earthquake hazards in the U.S. that could cost thousands of lives and billions of dollars in damage. An important tool for
mitigation is the ShakeAlert® Earthquake Early Warning System for the West
Coast of the United States, which detects significant earthquakes quickly so
that alerts can be delivered to people and automated systems often before
    strong shaking arrives.

Many thanks to IRIS for preparing such an informative and well presented introduction to how we can make our homes safer and commercial and apartment building owners can make their structures safer for the inevitable shaking that all of us in seismic country (such as Southern California) will experience sooner or later! I hope all Californians and everyone else in seismic zones learn these important design principles and get ready to drop, cover, and hold when the shaking starts! Bravo!

Kind of interesting to me too as we had the biggest earthquake ever in my area a Mag 6.0, the house shook so much II found it hard to stand, a miracle that the brick chimneys didn't go down. you may have heard about Victoria Australia's Earthquake, we have had minor ones before but nothing like this. Actually when it finished after 30 seconds or so, the house was still kind of rocking a bit.

They make holes/pipes into the toilets from one floor/flat and drop bombs into it. If it is TNT, you know from which country they are!
I say this because many people like me, did not know. I would have been grateful!
    Maybe canalisation is another way???
