  • The garden is starting to explode with growth. I love to just walk around and look at everything. We have tomatoes setting on, as well as peppers. We've been eating lots of snap peas, and snow peas. We have some small beans on the bush beans, and the pole beans. We even have some small cucumbers on the vines. I can't talk about everything in the description, because there is just too much to mention. Be sure to like, comment, and share this video. As always, thanks for watching!

      Thanks! It's getting hot here, so I hope that doesn't slow things down. Glad you enjoy the updates. Thanks for watching!

    Your garden is so lush and beautiful. I’m thankful your health has improved so you can continue to garden. Now that the heat has arrived my enthusiasm to be out there has declined but on the positive side we have been getting rain. My tomatoes and peppers are looking good. I got my okra out late and cut worms or something is cutting it down. Thanks for sharing your garden.

      Thanks Linda! I'm thankful every day that I can wake up and go walk around in the garden. I feel very blessed. I know about how the enthusiasm goes down quite a bit win it gets hot. Glad that you are getting some rain though. We could use some more here. I feel thankful for what we've gotten so far though. Thanks for watching, and for the kind words!

      Thanks so much! I'm glad that you enjoy taking the tour with me. I don't get to show too many people our garden in person, so it's nice to be able to share it in person. Thanks for watching!

    Picking blueberries here. We are finally over a long three years of drought and I’m not complaining about the bugs that have been rehydrated and are feasting on my person. You have a nice variety planted there that can be a daily addition to the kitchen.

      Picking blueberries sounds good from here. They just don't do well around here. Those bugs sure can ruin a great day. It's so nice to be able to go outside and get something to eat or an herb to add flavor to something. I'm ready for those home grown tomatoes though :) Thanks for watching!

    Jim, I like the unique way you cure your garlic, it will definitely have good airflow around it on all sides. I will borrow that idea, thanks. I hope you and Mrs. Midwest Gardener have a great weekend with your family and friends. ~Margie🤗

    Looks like you're on your way to a great garden harvest! With the sun and heat (finally!) my garden has been going crazy. I've harvested Corinto cucumbers, Jolene, Sweetie Girl Cherry, and Oxheart tomatoes, and Calima green beans. I had a very good Music garlic harvest. I have half my onions curing on a rack. Thanks for the enjoyable Saturday garden walk!

    Those are some nice size garlic bulbs Mr Jim. My neighbors kids are super excited to see my green bean teepees are starting to look like teepees and they keep knocking on my door to show me how tall my sunflowers are getting. I try to be grateful that they are taking an interest and asking about growing food… a lot of questions 😂

    • @MidwestGardener
      @MidwestGardener  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The purple glazer has done well both times I've grown it. It was the largest both times too. Looks like you've got a regular class to teach. Even though they are just neighbors, you are probably making some special memories with them. I've got grandkids, so I know how to questions can be, lol. Especially when they are little......why after everything. Enjoy :)

    Your garden is looking very healthy. I'm glad to see everything looking so promising. My garden is surviving not thriving. It's just too hot. Your amaranth looks like mine. I have little greenish black worms that eat it. Fortunately my lizards eat any worms that I get. Nice garlic harvest, mine only made pearls, I'll try again next year. I'm glad to hear that you have some swallowtail caterpillars. My fennel is getting attacked by aphids. My Bundaberg tomato plant just does not like our weather, but I did get two clusters of tomatoes. Hopefully it will survive and I get the tomatoes it's producing before the plant dies. Take care and have a great weekend 🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋

      Thanks Shirley! I hate to hear about the heat. We are settling in on the mid 90s here. I hope it doesn't get much hotter than that. I sure wish we had some of those lizards here. We could use their help with all the grass hoppers. Have a great weekend! Thanks for watching!

    Good Morning Jim - Looks like everything is coming along well for you so far but there are hot weeks ahead which can make or break things. I have to use shade cloth almost everyday for some plants that just can't take the heat. Just learned about Parthenocarpic cucumber varieties that don't need pollination. Some gardened don't have enough pollinators so might be something to look into for those with that issue. Hope you have a great weekend and stay cool..

    • @MidwestGardener
      @MidwestGardener  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good morning Sue. Very true about there being a lot of time left. Lots of stuff could still go wrong. Good point about the Parthenocarpic cucumbers. Have a great weekend!

    Look forward to seeing further footage of your unharvested garlic plant (without scapes removed) and how it flowers, etc. Garden is looking great. Maybe get a free-range chicken to eat all those nasty slugs, caterpillars etc. :)

    • @MidwestGardener
      @MidwestGardener  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'll try to remember to show the garlic when it flowers. A free-range chicken is exactly what I need.

    I’m interested to see what the garlic does next year after staying in the ground a couple of years. I planted elephant garlic in the fall and something dug every single one of them up 😫 stay cool and hydrated in this Midwest heat!

      @MidwestGardener  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm interested in seeing how that garlic does too. Sure sorry to hear about your elephant garlic. That is always disappointing when stuff like that happens. Hope you have a great weekend! Thanks for watching! I'm done for the day outside :)

    • @MidwestGardener
      @MidwestGardener  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I will have to give that a try. The nice thing about Red Swan is they are earlier. We just picked some today. The Calimas are just starting to set tiny beans.

    How do you CLEAN your garlic? What a beautiful garden you have!!

    • @MidwestGardener
      @MidwestGardener  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Most recommend that you just leave some dirt on, but I rinse ours off when I first harvest. Then I dry and cure it. I have about 8 or 9 pounds of garlic so far. I still have some to harvest.

    Beautiful garden, Jim! I'll be doing my first garlic harvest soon up here in NC Iowa. Your peppers look amazing! What would you suggest to grow for a medium to large size sweet pepper? God bless!

    • @MidwestGardener
      @MidwestGardener  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Lesya is a pretty good pepper. Aconcagua is a good sized sweet pepper, and is very productive. My favorite pepper for taste is Jimmy Nardello, but it has a very thin wall. Good luck with your garlic harvest! Thanks for watching!
