This is my all time favorite song by Dokken. I was in my early 20's in the 1980's and as a black woman, people thought that I was " abnormal" for loving hard rock but Don and George were my dream guys and I couldn't get enough of them !! ❤❤❤ Here in 2024, at the age of 59, their music still sends shivers down my spine !!! I now live in a city on the east coast that has a large black population and Everytime I play one of their songs, it never fails- first they start snapping their fingers and swaying with the beat, then they ask who is that group? They're good !!! Glad that I could introduce them to REAL music and talent !!! Those hip hop "artists" could learn a lesson from musicians and singers like these !!!! 🥰 Guess I wasn't so " abnormal" after all !!! Lol !!! Sending prayers to you Don concerning your health issues, Get well brother !!!🤗 You still rock my world !!!❤

Originally The Hunter was an instrumental theme composed by Lynch, but Don told him it was a very melodic song to be instrumental, so he made some arrangements and wrote a great lyrics and this great song came out. He told Lynch that if he wanted to make an instrumental he had to be more aggressive and that's how 'Mr. Scary ' was born which has 13 guitar tracks!
Another reason because i love this band since 1983!
I believe that “Mr. Scary” was actually supposed to have vocals but Don had trouble applying vocals to it so George added more guitar tracks and it became and instrumental! (Source: th-cam.com/video/eL5yc_Q3vso/w-d-xo.html)

sparkymoo Hair metal is like VVI, Slaughter for example, Dokken were a serious band, didn't sing about partying and drugs or fucking, they've written many heavy metal songs such as Kiss of death, Lightning strikes again, Tooth and nail, Lost behind the wall to name a few. most their songs weren't blues based they were minor progressions a more metalic feel.

Don Dokken & George Lynch made beautiful music together, too bad they hated one another.
This mega hit of Dokken's, still ROCKS my most beloved memories, to this day. Don's voice just melts my heart and soul.
I was in high school when this came out we used to go to the drive in movie theatre and rock out to this album and get smashed great times just listening to this brings back great memories ps we never watched the movies we had a party

Mick's hair looks magnificent here, the gentle feathering down the back and sides really compliment his face shape. he is not a bad drummer either.

Reminded me of the gigging days. People will never know the pain that goes with it. Loading up and tearing down, getting shafted by the club owner who says we were too loud, cops sniffing our rig with drug dogs...my hands bleeding at the drums and getting told "We have to play FreeBird." A rare few make anything of this. Most of us go through hell.
I know that pain and im only 16. Ive carried stacks threw downtown. got screwed by sound guys messing with my volume all show and turning me off during my solo. Ive even had a employee of a place untune my guitar before I went on. Then was lucky to get 5 dollars. Its rough
guitarist 359 I know all too well Bro. I got to a gig late once and missed the band playing in front of us. That band had three more vocals than us, so their sound guy pulled channels out of the board from my drums to put into their vocal mics....and he didn't tell anybody he did it. so we get ready to start and my kicks, hi hat and snare are dead! There was no time to fix it so the first set was a fucked up mess! The list of this kind of bullshit is endless.

+Pete Zereeah Honestly unless/ until you get a hit single it will always be like that. A cover band until somewhere an audience picks up on one of your original songs and it starts getting airplay. That is when albums, bigger venues, more creative freedom start coming in for musicians. (rock musicians in particular)

One of my favorite Lynch tunes. the song just has an incredibly cool groove to it, littered with the trademark Lynch trills and vibrato. the solo is simply kick a. emotive and technical. and showcases why George Lynch is one of the greatest rock guitarist ever. bad ass tune.

I disagree, I love erase the slate, long way home, hell to pay, lightning strikes again, and broken bones a *lot* , and those albums probably would have never been the same if Lynch and Don kept playing together.
And the Lynch solo stuff may have been totally different as well.
