If we can invent containment vessels for superconductors with a high thermal efficiency, then I guess we could theoretically float a craft a fixed distance above a metallic track as long as the superconductor remains at a low temperature. Unless, of course, we discover room temperature superconductors, then it's a party.
It's possible to create a repulsory effect by spinning magnets over a sheet-magnetic surface, essentially an upside down quad-copter. AG racing could be possible on an RC-scale right now.
I'm split between this and the original. In the original's favor, the beat has a lot more force and it feels less cluttered. However, if you play on it on loop, the lack of variety, screechiness, and simplistic sound design become apparent. In the rebuild's favor, the beat has more going on and cleverer sound design (like subdued sirens). However, it lacks some spirit because the main beat is different and less forceful.
Refreshing to see an intelligent appraisal of both version's merits. Personally I like both and love how Studio Liverpool added a remix of such a classic WipEout featured track.
Yes, while the original was really in your face with the buzzer siren, this version teases you with a nice build up to 2:35. I love both of them equally the more I listen to them.

The original is more like something seriously is going wrong or an intense race, where here it sounds like it’s like a 1 on 1 battle to the finish and it’s growing in intensity as it goes on and changes things differently from the original. Both are still good though, I also grew up with 2048!

Although you do raise a valid point, most of the tracks are based in the sky. Also, with maglev you can't drift around all over the place like the antigrav racers.

Christian Morris They're called super conductors and the highest temp for super conductors I've seen is -135 degrees Celsius (which is REALLY good). Another issue is laying down kilometer long tracks of neodymium magnets. We could just use electromagnets however the energy cost would be quite the budget.
I have no clue why it's called "rebuild", it's like someone grabbed few events from some random mediocre track and jammed them into the original. It's a horrible fucking mess. The original was simple, noisy and amazing. This is version is just a nonsensical catdog.
