Len Faki played this during his Boiler Room set in Berlin around 47 mins. It's cool to notice how such an "agressive'' pushing sound comes from such a minimal set of sounds and smart arrangement.
Aphex Twin dropped this again at Fuji Rock festival in Japan and Flow Festival this year and thanks to the Reddit Flow Festival thread Randomer (The first track by him in the set list selection) brought me here. Fucking amazing and unusual techno track, I like that Richard introduces to me these other amazing artists in his selections.
Someone needs to make a video to this of a clown slowly sliding into psychopathy and eventually performing a techno gig to a bunch of children turning them all into evil rave kids - not even high right now
Guys. Guys. Guys. Can someone PLEASE give me some tips for other techno like this? I am fairly common in the whole Techno-scene, but this song.. It's definitely one of it's own. It's just so... kind of lazy, dark deep. I fucking love it!
belgianlindo85 Yea i know, lazy is not the word. But it's just really really weird. Haven't heard this synth and effects on it ever before. It kinda feels really lousy and sloppy in some kinda way if you know what I mean.. But it's original and hard as fuck.
Official I Be.Long Kind of has that viscosity to it right? Unfortunately can't think of much techno like this, which is what makes this more unique! haha
Your right, so why anyone would anyone like this? Its terrible. This track is a great example of how so much dance music has deteriorated in the last 10 or so years. So little variation, no element of feeling/soul, just horrible depressing non melodic industrial sounds 'that make you feel your riding a k train'. I'm not one to often to hate on music because I do believe it to be subjective to the listener, but this kind of sound is one I want to see die from clubs nowadays. I hope you read this Randomer, your one of the people pushing club music in the completely wrong direction, into a deep dark k hole. Please reconsider your musical productions.
Oli Scalee I hear you, you make some interesting points. But I think this tune is quiet progressive in some ways...the kick drum is also very well eq'd, i'm sure very loud it would be satisfying.
Oli Scalee I actually really like this. There is definitely feeling in this track. You should remember that not all music has to be positive or latch onto a certain selection of emotions. This track is highly expressive through its angst, its imminent darkness. There's a paranoia that grinds at the psych, if it makes you feel uneasy, then it's doing its job. If you're complaining about how music doesn't have any soul/feeling anymore, I think perhaps you're living through a dated lens. Music should be holistically expressive, just because you simply don't like the sound doesn't mean that others can't value it. Who are you to decide what direction club music should go in? In any case, life is about experience, and touching as many of them as you can. Experiencing a deep dark K hole will make the most beautiful, sober, sunny afternoon so much sweeter...
Elevated Culture well said, well said. i too am fond of this track, partially because i heard it in a mix. im sure the person talking about this being a deviation from dance music has a slight nuance bias, yet has their own way of perceiving the music and then further categorizing. Regardless of what "dimension" this seems to be evoking, i hear it as some very nicely chosen frequencies over a creeping yet emotionally fast house beat, with maybe less than minimal variances in verses, but, hey, that's why i said i liked this song in the middle of a mix, cut, in the first place, eh? not much dissecting to do here lol.
Nah your missing my point, im not saying it doesnt have soul or feeling. I can completely understand how people may like it and im not telling people its shit music. As I said music is completely subjective to the listener. Im just saying that I generally see too many DJs playing this dark experimental house/techno that only a few people can really enjoy when they are at a club. All im saying that more DJs (often near me) need to learn how to work a crowd properly. It pisses me off when i hear this stuff being played out by sometimes successful DJs and nobody is really enjoying it.
