My favorite part is the letter press with Moe and Shemp at the beginning, especially the part where Shemp throws the press at Moe! His mumbling combined with the funny sound he made when he hit Moe makes me wanna collapse on the floor with the giggles!
Howard Weinstein - I thought this would be cringeworthy, and I’d stop watching after 2 or 3 minutes. But you’re correct, better than I thought. They were able to pull this off live, using the same old gags and props.
@@johnbecker9242 The Stooges were veterans of the vaudeville stage. Even during their movie heyday, they continued to make live appearances around America. So working in front of a live TV audience was a natural step for the boys.

The head of Columbia at the time nixed the idea because they were still under contract to do the short subjects. They tried another pilot in the early 60's, but that went nowhere also, but part of the footage was used in the movie The 3 Stooges in Orbit.
Watching this kind of showed why the Stooges found little success after Shemp left. A lot of what made them great was the timing of the editing. Camera angles and the sound effects all gave them that edge. Their later movies had the worst camera work, sloppy editing and it made them just look awkward and out of step. Being live here, which what I can only assume was two cameras, gives them a bit of that awkwardness, also. But still funny and still wonderful to watch. Thanks for the upload.
When I was a young kid we had an old Electrolux vacuum cleaner which worked great but the hose was falling apart. One Saturday my dad and I went to a little vacuum shop to get the hose rebuilt with new material. The guy working the shop looked EXACTLY like Shemp Howard. I watched him get out new hose material off of a roll and cut and glue it together. When he made out the bill he had to get out his big black frame reading glasses and looked just like Shemp here with his ' owl vision ' glasses, except they weren't that thick.
Originally, The Stooges were supposed to have a tv show called “The Three Stooges Show” with Shemp, Larry, and Moe. However for some reason this did not happened due to the studio losing money. I think that is unfortunate because a comedy show of the stooges would’ve been a try not to laugh show. In conclusion, the rating should’ve been TV-PG
Their last TV show or any kind of show was supposed to be a travel show called ' Kooks Tour '. They made a few episodes but never aired. The only remaining versions were released as a super 8 sound movie. I have video tape of Kooks Tour that was made from the super - 8 films. Moe, Larry, and Curly Joe DiRita
If their pants get any higher they'll choke on 'em! Quite a good comedy pilot for the era, IMO! I've always heard Desi Arnez was in large part responsible for the 3-camera recording process. And this is 1949, 2 years before I Love Lucy aired. Hard to imagine this old kinescope was once cutting edge tech. The Stooges suffer a bit on TV due to the lack of their amazing Foley artist (the Fourth Stooge), but still come across pretty good! Shoulda had a chance!
Desi Arnaz's process involved using 3 motion picture cameras filming the action simultaneously in front of a studio audience. The show was then put together in the editing room. This pilot was made using (probably) 3 electronic TV cameras, the vision being filmed by a movie camera pointed at a studio monitor. The resulting film was called a kinescope, the quality of which was always inferior to a program shot on film. When videotape was invented in 1956, it gradually replaced kinescopes, which were still used up until the 1970s.
"You can't open a little file drawer, how did you ever get so stupid?" "I gotta charge account, what's your excuse?" "Remind me to lower your salary and raise your forehead!" (SLAP) "Get outta here!"
Moe to Shemp: What,in your opinion, would make this room more appealing, livable, and good to the eye!!” Shemp replies:”Food, drink and a couple of dames!!!”
I've got to wonder if Symona Boniface was showing signs of pancreatic cancer in this short. She appears to have lost quite a bit of weight judging from some earlier shorts she was in. I always enjoy her stooges appearances.
Dink Trout. He was mostly a radio actor who occasionally appeared in films (Disney liked to use him a lot). I think this was his only TV role, though, because he unfortunately passed away a few months after it was filmed.

Different watching them perform live in front of an audience, cant stop and start over if they screw up. This was better than I thought it would be.

Columbia Pictures stopped them from moving forward with this ABC TV show. Their contract with Columbia had a non competition clause.
