I bought this on your recommendation and glad I did I've had a couple others the Coleman was as useless as a screen door on a submarine the other one the light and radio worked but wouldn't charge my cell phone this one really works which is important to me because I have health problems and depend on my cell phone for 911 thank you
Got me one so far works good, Got some batteries in it not going hand crank it unless I have too, radio picks up my favorite station, flash light works good, I got a desk that I keep my supplies like this out and test them often, I did get that yellow one they advertise for $30.00. It was a piece of junk, the first time that I needed it it did not work.. So I did get the 3 year protection plan with this one think it cost $4.00 more.. now got 3 ways to charge devices, keep some light on, and radio,
Check out the Kaito 500 & 500L. These are much larger, have great reception, and have almost the entire shortwave band. The 500 can use AA batteries and the 500L can`t use AA batteries but has a high capacity lithium 18650 battery and the solar panel is big and can easily power the radio in full sun.
@@bama3347 50 bucks. American based company with an actual warranty and customer service. Or buy a Chinese paperweight without shortwave, NOAA weather alert, or anything resembling acceptable reception. I`m a product tester and I have a big box of the paperweights I use for flashlights.
@UCxXphdLJ96_WYlSOnMwXx0w I had very bad luck as a product tester with these. Glad you found a good one. If you have a lot of money see the new CCrane emergency radio. I have a tiny little folding solar panel perfect for a bugour bag. It only produces about 12 watts but that`s enough to charge or power USB devices like fans. It can be carried in a pocket and is about 7 inches long, almost 3 inches wide, is camo, and has 4 individual panels on it. Also have a look at the very inexpensive Tecsun R9012 true analog transistor shortwave radio. It`s a great choice for those wanting a shortwave receiver and is very small. There`s also an extremely tiny multi band receiver that gets nearly all normal radio frequencies from airplanes to weather and police that still use non digital. There are several brands who put their name on this. External simple wire antennas greatly improve performance with this. Look this up> Retekess TR105 All band Radio. Shortwave, HAM, CB Air, and AM/FM? Yes, all of them and more!
I got mine yesterday. It has been in direct sunlight (Calif) to charge for about 4 hours+ but it won't indicate past 50%. With our non-stop wildfires it is critical that solar is a back-up. How long and HOW did you get a full charge. I did try cranking for 2 full min., still no change. TY
This is what I'm most concerned with about all of these radios - whether or not the hand crank even works at all. You should be able to use it for a few minutes at least after a few dozen cranks - light, radio, etc... From what I've been able to gather about all of these budget radios the vast majority of them have 1 star reviews because someone sat there cranking on the thing for dear life and couldn't get anything out of it. If a crank has "little resistance" that means it's not generating any power! There's no such thing as free power. A real generator pumping electrons into wherever, like a battery, is going to fight back because electrons don't want to move, especially into a battery.
How long will charge last. Also all those advisory lights like charge levels and others you mentioned but i am sure they eat into the power, can you turn them off? Thanks for posting the video looks like a nice camping radio to have
I haven't tested it to see how long the charge last. But that's a good question I'll have to look into it. Thanks for taking the time to comment and as always thank you for watching
I recently purchased this radio on Amazon and I quickly returned it for 2 reasons. The weather band reception was very poor and the SOS button stuck in the ON position when I pressed it. I encourage you not to buy this product, it is a glorified flashlight attached to a crappy radio. There are better quality emergency radios out there. Try the Kaito KA500 or KA700.
Does anybody tried to charge smartphone by cranc when internal battery of this device was fully discharged? For example Midland ER200 you have to cranc by 1 hour first and then then you can start charging smartphone.
@@VansWorld you now got a new subscriber...I wanna see if you can find a good one...I havent...I'm a backpacker/bicycler a 30$ regular aa battery sony seems to be best bang for the buck
Have one not very tuff solar won't keep raido working crank is a joke it's a good flashlight and raido but power side is poor and don't do what is advertised
I dunno the majority if not all solar power and hand crank radios either don't work or take many days to fully charge. With today's technology there's no reason for such failures in an emergency situation. People are relying on reliability and all those introduced into the market fail in my books. We've heard many sellers talk them up but when people buy them they end up disappointed in their performance.
The Mona Lisa pic is epically hilarious! 😂
I just recently bought one. It came in the other day I love it. It really is handy and useful especially in an emergency. 👍🏻👍🏻
Florida checking in: radios like these are very useful. I have a similar one, comes in handy during hurricanes.
After Hurricane Michael was without power for 20 days,, after 3 days no gas for generators so looking into alternative ways to generate power
@@altha2008 foldable USB solar panel like the compact 10 watt ones and a decent shortwave radio will do far better.
I dont know Van....Im feelin a little ......cranky.. after this video......😀😀😀
Thank you for this video i just ordered one of this version instead of the other ones on the market because of the in depth review
That’s awesome. Thank you for the feedback. Let me know how you like it 👍😁

Hi sir,
I will be thankful if you could give the link for the shop that you bought it from. The link here seems to be broken.
Thanks!
I think this needs more likes, you went over this product better than most pros just throw a 2 minute script up for

Thank you so much. I don’t have to worry anymore

I also have the running snail version. It's gonna be useful for the hurricane that's coming.
I bought one of these getting ready for hurricane season and to go camping

Thanks Van, I just bought the same crank weather solar radio. Thanks for your instructions, it really helps. 😊
You didn't show or demonstrate the usb phone charger
Well mine came without a user's manual so maybe you got mine!🤣
Lol. It’s a possibility 😂👍😁
Well done! Thanks so much. I just received mine, will unbox today.
I have one from Hurricane Donna it still works 😊
