    One strategy I liked to use with ethiopians in 1v1 or 2v2 is a surprise switch into shotel warriors in beginning/mid castle age.
    I would open archers, eventually adding a few spearmen/pikemen into the mix. This usually caused my enemy to rely on skirmishers, walls and eventually, mangonels.
    Then, I would build a castle somewhat hidden in my base and start amassing shotels in garrison, getting infantry upgrades... etc while still trying to apply some pressure with what remained of my crossbows to keep the enemy on the defensive and feeling good about their walls and skirms.
    And then I would unleash 20+ shotels in their base. Walling doesn't hold up to their attack, skirms are useless, mangonels either can't keep up or are rushed down, TCs fall in seconds. The only way to stop them is either with archers (which can't keep up in terms of speed), knights (which get countered by spears+crossbows) or castles (which you can usually circumvent).
    The enemy usually cannot switch to counter shotels fast enough because of their build time and the speed at which they tear through the enemy's economy, usually resulting in you winning or being far ahead economically.
    Quite a fun strategy. Would recommend ^^

      My go to strategy as well 😂 only I generally go for a forward castle and defend my position with my archers and pikes as I amass shotels

    I love this series, I'd like to see the Bulgarians next, just to get your perspective on them competitively and why they haven't been seen lately.

      I think they are just limited and powercrept nowadays, the civ has not many backup plans to what it does so it has to constantly take risks (Besides their small TC discount all their discounts are on military upgrades, so they have to make them count) and even there they struggle at it because their options are very predictable.

    The fast castle into 20+ shotel's eat enemy TC's as well as pretty much anything else in their base. Sprinkle in a few pikeman (upgrade is free) if your worried about enemy cav. Make sure to get arson and shotel's melt everything before enemy can even quickwall half the time.

    What I would like to see is a grade for their best team position, like Ethiopians S-Tier for Flank, Teutons S-Tier for Pocket or something along those lines.

    One of my favorite civ design personally. I really like how timing reliant they are and they feel very complete overall
    Probably the only thing I would have mentioned personally is that their post imp is amazing but also very gold-dependant and in open maps this can be a problem when your Hussars are so bad and your composition is very immobile.
    They very much rely on protecting their Arbs and it can be tricky to make work in post Imp when they are also getting raided constantly

    Great Civ Overview - awesome series!
    Ethiopians were my favorite Civ back when the African Kingdoms came out.
    Unfortunately, they did not get much love from the devs. Archers meta heavely nerfed and no free helbs anymore without any compensation.
    Torsion Engine is incredible strong but expensive upgrade and more often not valuable in 1:1.
    I wish they get something letting them feel more like a 2024 AOE2 Civ.
    Just wondering: you mention that they fall apart in longer games but you rank them higher in post imp than in castle age when their winrate is highest… 😅

    • @dj_koen1265
      @dj_koen1265 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Probably because torsion engines is so poweful in the lategame on closed maps

      @@dj_koen1265 no, actually it was the powerful archer play before they became unreliable for noobs compared to knights

  • @RealCecilion

    You rated ethiopians post Imp better then their Castle Age, why do you think Ethiopians have such a high winrate at Castle Age times? Do other Civs just have a way worse Castle age and get a bigger boost on reaching imp/post imp so that they can compete/win after reaching that point? Or is it that most games just end "early"? curious because i actually dont play mp at all and only play when new campaigns are out.

    • @davilg007
      @davilg007 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      castle age is so important that often you fall apart in castle and then your imp doesn't matter
      most people picking ethiopians also just have the archer rush build order memorized and can't adapt as well or play the civ on imp

    • @triprichert423
      @triprichert423 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Post-Imp depends on the map. Their siege, skirms, and halb make them a great post-imp civ on a very closed map like black forest. If you're on the offensive, your army is hard to stop. But, their hussar lack bloodlines and armor, so they don't have a good raiding unit for post-imp on open maps.
      Their age up bonus and free pikemen makes their early castle age very strong. But, they don't have bloodlines, so their knights aren't good. and their unique unit is fragile and very situational.
      I think the reason for the high win rate in castle age is the early castle age edge. Ethiopian player does damage in early castle age, and their opponent gives up or doesn't recover.

    Hey Viper, just here to provide some feedback: the way you read the script sounds like you didn't write it. Is that true? Did someone else write it or was it corrected using ChatGPT? If yes, it may sound more natural if you write what you read out yourself, even if you think the words are not as fancy. If not, just forget about what I wrote.
