Hope you have enjoyed this video! Pinning this comment as a quick recap for folks who may have fast-forwarded the video (don't worry, I'm guilty of it too): - M-Link only (currently?) works with DME that is produced before June 2020. - Any DME produced after June 2020 will very very likely require a Femto Unlock service. - Main reasons why I went with M-Link was because of its: 1) ability to backup (and recover) the current DME state as a mirror image. 2) convenience of bench-unlocking it at-home. 3) unlimited times of backup/recovery/unlock of DME. 4) ability to work with any tuning platform you prefer after the DME is unlocked. - The red-marked connector from the M-Link goes to 1st slot of the DME (towards the front of car); and the other connector goes to the 5th slot from front of car (second last when counting from the rear of car). - The connector that goes to the 5th slot is to be connected the other way around than OEM connection. Check the pins layout before plugging it into the DME. - The operation of M-Link was an overall very very positive experience. I've reached out to them time and again for various questions, their support was extremely knowledgeable and helpful every time I reached out. 10/10!
Hey man, appreciate you doing these videos on the G20 M340. There aren't many (if any) maintenance or upgrade videos for this car on YT. I hope you keep it up.
Thank you for your kind words, I really appreciate it and you guys are definitely one of my motivations to keep making these videos! I commented on another video with a viewer that the higher the MSRP is on a car, the less likely that the owners are going to service or mod the car by themselves. It's just an unfortunate fact, while the G20 M340 is an absolute beast that has so much potentials.
Glad it helped! As long as the DME doesn’t require femto unlock, I genuinely think M-Link is the best option on the market. I no longer fear the DME will be locked even if my car goes into dealership for service, which I’m sure I’m not the only one who fears of it lol
@@TandeGarage yeah I was able to check by using a scanner and connecting the mhd app. It said bench unlock required and that my software was created in early 2019 so I should be in the clear.
@@Sam-kn4rb You should be good! I do love the flexibility the M-Link offers - whereas say if you'd used the MHD Unlocker, you're only limited to tuning with MHD. Good luck and enjoy the freed-up power soon!
It’s likely the same principle with my M340ix shown in the video - any DME manufactured after 06/2020 is locked from the factory, that requires a Femto unlock. That said, it involves shipping the DME physically to them. This M-Link device likely won’t work. Though you can check with Mission Tuning and see if the M-Link device would work on your application.
I’m currently running BM3 after having my DME unlocked with M-Link! It works flawlessly. That said, this tool is not tied to any tuning platform after unlocking your DME. You will be able to remap the DME with whichever tuning platform of your choice.
@@ronaldalvarez97 if you dont care for a flashback option (return to pre-unlock state), just get the “unlock only” option. Super license is the one with flashback option along with unlock.
Hope you have enjoyed this video!

I agree, I can’t find much YT on this car. Sharp contrast to my civic haha
Bro awesome video this helped me tremendously on deciding on how I want to get my DME unlocked and after watching this I’m getting the M-Link

Hey dude,
great job. Do you know if the ECU of BMW M850i build 12/2020 can be unlocked? All tuners say to me that it’s locked.

If I use this can I still use bm3 tune
Yes

Now my next question is which one should I get for my 2020 m340i I just want to unlock the DME so I can use my bm3 tune.
