I don't know how to explain but these girls made the decision to become an Idol(started from an audition and became a trainee and they honed their skills in many ways(dancing-rapping-singing-writing rap verses-walking-posing etc etc) so that's why they always look good from any sides, performing as a band, modelling. They are a super star, they aren't a superstar because of one music hit that they did make them famous thus make them a celebrity, nope not that. they are well equipped to be a star.
They were training for 4-5 years, all of them train as vocalists and dancers, they train for 13 days straight and 1 day off every 2 weeks 12h every day...
BLACKPINK just HIT DIFFERENT...YG ENT really managed to put 4 ace's in one group and now they're dominating both music and fashion industry. Literal ICONS.

BLACKPINK does everything in-house, their new building is four times the size of their old one. It houses Music and Video Production, film studios, advertising, promotion, marketing as well as multiple dance studios, a gym, cafeteria and corporate offices. The building itself is gorgeous, it's built right next door to their old building and looks like a futuristic space station. As far as choreography they have their own in-house choreographers and male/female backup dance crews. Their dancers work and train at the X-ACADEMY, YG's Vocal/Dance academy that they use to find trainees with above-average skills. For music videos they also hire world-reknown choreographers to create unique dance routines. BLACKPINK releases Dance Practices for most of their songs, they're also great to react to (I'd recommend the HOW YOU LIKE THAT DANCE PERFORMANCE)

(please please read all of this as this took quite a while to write and I think you'll learn a lot anyway 🥺 and also comment if you want to know anything else about them)
They came from vastly different cultural backgrounds and upbringings.
Rosé is a Korean but was born in New Zealand and grew up in Australia. Since she was young, she was always very inclined to music. At an early age, she already learned to play the piano and guitar. You know it's her singing because her voice sounds so precious and soft. She lived in Melbourne Australia but YG (their label) had auditions in Sydney Australia so her family booked a flight there and her dad persuaded her to audition. She placed 1st. She then moved to Korea to train.
Jennie is Korean but she lived most of her early life in New Zealand. She was supposed to move to Florida USA but at the last minute decided to stay in Korea and pursue her career in music. She auditioned in YG and got in.
Jisoo is Korean and was born and raised in Korea. She was known in her school for her unique husky voice and was always complimented for her natural beauty (especially for Korean beauty standards). She originally went to YG to pursue acting but ultimately decided to train as an artist instead.
Lisa is Thai. She lived all her life in Thailand. As a kid, she was already part of hip-hop dance crews so out of all the members, Lisa was already quite a natural at dance, even before training in Korea. She tried out when YG held auditions in Thailand and placed 1st. She then moved to Korea to train (which was so tough for her because she didn't speak a word of Korea. Now, she's fluent).
> So Kpop is not really a "genre" of music. It doesn't actually stand for -Korean pop- , rather it stands for "Korean popular music". As you react to more Kpop, you'll see that Kpop in itself is EXPERIMENTAL with all sorts of genres. Some groups may have more EDM, some country, some jazz, some hip-hop, and some a combination of others. Most Westerners may need time to get used to it because you're all used to separating genres of music. Kpop is not afraid to fuse elements of different styles.
Also, what makes Kpop unique is the 'trainee system'. Remember what I said above that all the members of BLACKPINK auditioned and got 1st? Well that doesn't mean that YG automatically formed them together as a group. Passing the auditions just means they get to be a part of YG's training program. In this program, young talented people (can be male and female) train for years to polish their already strong skills and improve their weak ones. The fundamentals are dance, vocals, and rap.
They hold monthly evaluations where trainees are eliminated from the program. They spend 14 hours a day with this vigorous training and this goes on for years. It's tough because being a trainee for years doesn't necessarily ensure you debut as an artist.
Lisa, for example, is already so good at dance (the other members expressed how they were intimidated by her because she got straight As in the evaluations). Rosé was already an awesome vocalist but she said before training to Korea, she never danced in her life. It's crazy how good she is now. Jennie until now is known as the most versatile of the group. As you saw with her scene in the tank, the girl can spit. She also has very powerful vocals. Jisoo has such a deep husky voice that it's very unique to her.
At the end of their training, all the 4 members can all rap, sing, and dance (of course with each member having their own strong suits/specialty... for Lisa it's dance, for Jennie it's rap, for Rosé and Jisoo it's vocals). The BLACKPINK members trained in YG for 4-6 years.
You also have to understand that YG is one of the "Big 3" in Kpop, meaning one of the most powerful, most influential, richest, and most prestigious labels in Kpop. Among the Big 3, YG is known to be the "hip-hop" label (as can be seen with their black logo). Their specialty has always been hip-hop and rap. It's fitting because the company was founded on hip-hop roots, and their artists have embodied that well.
Haters keep on bringing BLACKPINK down, downplaying their talent and success because they're backed by a big label. What they don't understand is, to be accepted at one of the Big 3, you also have to have the talent to match up to their elevated much higher standards. And to train for years and years just to have their hardwork downplayed is just too shallow for the haters 😂
So to recap, Kpop is:
1.) not a genre, not just pop but a combination of other styles
2.) inherently the trainee system that it thrives by to create such polished artists.

What's up bro! BLACKPINK is like a "perfect storm" of talent, I'll give you a brief bio of the players:
*TEDDY PARK* is their genius Writer/Producer. He wrote/cowrote every BLACKPINK song so far. He's a Korean-American rapper who grew up in New York and California before moving to S. Korea and signing with YG Entertainment (YG). He was a member of the group 1TYM, then left and began producing hit songs for other major YG artists. He has a skill for smoothly blending English and Korean, writing sick beats and addictive hooks and drops. He now has his own sublabel at YG called THEBLACKLABEL. BLACKPINK goes to the BLACKLABEL studio to record.
*JENNIE KIM* (JENNIE) is the rapper on the tank. She was born in S. Korea but went to school in New Zealand for five years, then was about to go to another school in Florida (I believe she was going to be an accountant or lawyer) but she told her mother that she really wanted to become a singer. She had no musical training but she returned to S. Korea and passed her audition at YG. As she was able to speak English she was trained to rap as well as sing (she rapped during her audition). She was the first member signed in 2010.
*LALISA MANOBAN* (LISA) is the girl with bangs (always has bangs) holding the pink cockatoo. Lisa is from Thailand. She has been dancing since she was four years, won multiple dance competitions and later started taking singing lessons. Her dream from a young age was to become a K-Pop artist. When she was fourteen YG Entertainment held auditions in Thailand. Lisa beat out all the other auditions, the only one chosen out of 4,000 hopefuls. She moved to S. Korea alone a few months later, in April 2011. She was the first non-Korean ever hired by their company, not knowing how to speak Korean, she only knew how to say "Hello". At the company the managers were forbidden to speak English to her, as she needed to learn Korean quickly.
*JISOO KIM* (JISOO) (pronounced JEE-SOO, rhymes with "Me Too") Jisoo is wearing a pink wig, also holding the umbrella. Jisoo is the only member born and raised solely in S. Korea. She had done some commercials and Korean drama TV shows. She did not have singing or dancing experience but passed her audition in August 2011.
*ROSEANNE PARK* (ROSÉ, pronounced RO-ZAY, like the wine) is swinging from the chandelier. Rosé was born in New Zealand then moved to Australia when she was eight. She always loved music, enjoyed singing and playing the guitar and piano. In 2012 the YG company held auditions in Australia. At her father's suggestion they flew to the city where the auditions were held and she passed the audition, beating out 700 other hopefuls. She flew to S. Korea where she began her training.
