I was lucky enough to teach in a school where Rivers is a student and therefore, Steve was often present. He is such an inspiration and Rivers is a very special young man. Such a wonderful family!
I’m literally crying more tears than I have in a long time. As a father of 6 (soon to be 7), all who are 7 and under, I am inspired by Steve and his wife. I think of all the moments I take for granted, and I’m driven to be better because of the example on display in this piece. Thank you ESPN for sharing the story of the Gleason family.
I just finished the documentary Gleason. Wow. So emotional. It was done in 2016 and I didn’t realize Steve was still living. This is a great follow up. Have you seen the Documentary?

As much as this made me cry, I smiled and chuckled more than a few times. Steve is hilarious. I mean, being on the field for his son's little league game literally wearing a target on his shirt. There's no way that wasn't his decision. He's a great man. Nothing but love for Steve Gleason, and I hope one day we can cure this horrible disease.
This movie was so hard to watch it changed my mindset toward my body I love body because I’m lucky🫶🏼🥺🥺🥺

Are medical professionals always wrong in their estimations. 2-5 years, Steve’s at 9 years hopefully many more but yeah you mostly hear them get it wrong and always seem to make the bad news worse it seems. I know they are preparing you for the worst but don’t they understand horrible news breaks down the body and has physiological chemical responses it’s a vicious cycle where some wouldn’t have died otherwise. Not with ALS but still.
