This was so validating to see how difficult this was for someone else. I was disappointed with how hard day 2 was. We got hung up on looking at that was left blank vs what we crossed off on the circuit board. My husband and I were worried that the calendar would be way too hard if that was just day 2. Luckily things have turned around
Yes, and me too when I re-watched it! :) I feel that I probably would have spotted the numbers the first time round if I hadn't been looking at them through the camera, but I can't know for sure! What I definitely missed, though, is that it was the position of the red mark that specifically called out the position of the number.
@@drgarethIt helped us that we’re solving them with our 10-year-old. His young eyes spotted the numbers much quicker than we’d have ever seen them. The 4 in particular was very tough to see for me.
I loved this one and got it very quickly, but spent ages finding the one on the side of the box. I was sure I checked every logo on the box because checked the front, back and four sides. I was desperate for a while and almost late for work, when it finally hit me the box actually has 7 sides because of the cover flaps. I have been pleasantly surprised by most of the puzzles of this year, because they have so many elements in there
The 3rd year running playing these nice calendars with my wife and watching your videos to see someone else solve! What an unexpected & nice Christmas tradition! 😊 🎄
Definitely! It's also reassuring for me, because when I upload the video I don't know how everyone else will have found it and there's a definite risk I am an outlier! :)
This was a tough one. I'd actually seen the four symbols on the side on day 1 so the first part was fine and I saw the word and was looking at the logos but thought the they would be pointing at the numbers for some reason. Didn't expect a 'numbers hidden on the box' puzzle so early, especially with using the symbols from the calendar doors
Yes, I didn't expect it to be so involved either - especially on an early door, as you say. Not that I'm complaining - it's great that the puzzles have some depth to them! :)
I love this tradition of watching you solve the daily puzzle. It's such a joy. As per usual. Thanks for keeping up the yearly get-together for this. We solved 2+3 today. Number 2 was such an Exit Classic. I loved it. You solved it almost like we did here.
Thank you so much for commenting, and your kind words. I really appreciate your support too, and thank you for continuing to watch these videos! :) It really is a tradition now, though, isn't it? Thank goodness there are no plans (that I know of!) to stop making these! :) Also, I'm glad my door 2 experience wasn't unique! ;)
I'm glad to introduce them to you, then, because I thoroughly recommend them. This is the fourth Exit calendar and (so far!) they've all been superb fun. In fact I was looking forward to starting this for ages, and I'm so glad it's now Advent and I can get solving! :) At least here in the UK, the calendars from the previous two years are also still available, so perhaps you can find one of those instead?
Happy to admit Day 2 got me. My mistake trying to hurry to do the puzzle before work, continued after work and still had trouble solving it haha but got there in the end
I've been watching your Advent Exit puzzle videos for three years. This year, we finally bought the box despite the high price (it's quite expensive here in Hungary). Today, while we were waiting for my husband to come home, the kids and I were examined the box to see where there might be any secret code. So my daughter immediately said that there was an eight on one of the T's. We were lucky :)
I hope you enjoy it, and I'm so glad my videos inspired you! And well done to your daughter - failing to examine the box carefully is often something that lets me down, based on previous solves, so it's a good thing to do! :) Thank you so much for watching each year!
I personally completely agree that I wouldn't grade this as 'Beginner', although all the Exit ratings seem to be primarily based on how much material you have to consider simultaneously, rather than number of solving steps (and so, on that basis, each Advent calendar day is quite self-contained and so I suppose rates as an easy solve using their metric). It might also be a marketing thing - perhaps that grading makes it most likely to sell to a wider audience? I'm just guessing here, though! And of course perhaps they assume people will take the hints as soon as they get stuck. (It would be interesting to know how quickly most solvers actually /do/ take hints!)
Funnily enough I only had my real 'aha' moment once I had finished recording. You'll notice I don't mention that the red button gave the EXACT position of the numbers on each T - and that's because I didn't realize it until afterwards! :)
I have the calender myself, I complete it first and them watch your video.I did struggle with this but it made me feel a little better after watching your video😉.Before I spotted the numbers I actually looked under the side flaps to see if it was being the T.I saw something i don't think I was meant to yet Ooops.
Ah, is there something there? I think there has been the last couple of years at least - or one of them anyway. Usually it has a big sign saying DO NOT OPEN or something like that. :)
There are a lot of steps and you only need to get one incorrect to get stuck! Sounds like you got nearly all the way there though, so well done! I nearly started counting the shapes in each stack...
@@drgareth i did at first. But on the cards. Thought maybe the number of the different shapes would make the 3 numbers. I tried at lot of theories. Didn’t thought it would be so comprehensive. But that being said. I love it. I got my in danish, so it’s funny to heard of the translation the same or they have to at one point change it up to match the language 🤷🏼♀️ well see. And thanks for your channel. I love you and Laura. 👏🏻👏🏻
I had that feeling multiple times while solving this! When you reach that point of "well, I've run out of ideas" you know you're in (puzzle) trouble. :)
I worried about filling in some of the symbols myself on the cards in fear it would be the wrong thing to do. I was glad it wasn't incorrect. Luckily, I didn't get hung up on where to look for the code since the first EXIT logo I looked at was on the cover of the story booklet and spotted a '1' right away. I really enjoyed the puzzle today!
That was a good plan! My pen was in theory erasable, although I don't know how well it would work on the card without also erasing part of the image beneath. :)
Ah that was lucky - I clearly wasn't observant enough the first time I looked at each of the logos! Realizing that the red are is giving you the exact location of the number would have helped a lot though - which I did not!
This was a fun one would probably found the numbers faster but think each card regaled to a row of doors is truly a leap that would take me a while to think of.
I'm glad it wasn't just me - since it wasn't directly clued I thought that perhaps it was intended to be obvious and that I had been really slow. :) I do wonder if I would have seen the numbers sooner if I hadn't been looking at them through the camera instead of directly, but I'll never know. ;)
Interesting to see how many people got stumped by this one. While I did think it was pretty challenging, I definitely thought it was still doable and a similar level to day 1 where I didn’t need any hints and took around 10 minutes to do the room. I had already noticed the symbols on the side of the box so quickly put that together with the shapes to figure out how to mark up the cards and then a fun scavenger hunt around the box knowing I needed to check the bottom of the T’s in Exit. I would say this was a very fun day with multiple elements that was challenging while still doable, but I can see how some people had a bit harder of a time
If you miss the correspondence between the location of the red mark and the bottom of the T, the scavenger-hunt bit is a lot tougher! :) Unfortunately I failed to realize that, so well done for solving it smoothly!
I took a while with this one as well. I had to pull out my magnifying glass to see the tiny numbers. Missed them the first pass looking. The challenge of old eyes. 🤣
This one was ah lot harder already 😂 I got focused on the first card you shaded only had one column where everything matched a full door, so thought you needed a door from each card until you told that it all spelled out exit😅 Good one, hope i can follow tomorrow's clue a little better tomorrow
Ah, that would make sense too - I didn't think of that. It was only when I realized that the number of columns matched the calendar that I properly got going, and I wasn't sure if I had spent a while missing something incredibly obvious or if it really /was/ hard to spot! :)
This was fun, but it's hard to solve along with you, if we don't have a clear view of the advent calendar... any chance you could include this somewhere? Just a clear, unobstructed view of the sides, we can always pause and have a look. Otherwise I find myself trying to go up and down your video, hoping I can get a glimpse somewhere, and it sort of ruins viewing...
You can definitely spot at least one of the numbers before I do, since I saw it myself on re-watching the video. :) But I do take your point. For the puzzles where I need to search the calendar, I agree you can't really solve along with this aspect while watching the video - but then I think that's inevitable and the aim of the videos is to show me solving rather than to entirely reproduce the experience of owning the actual calendar.
This one stumped us. Needed the hints. Off to a rough start.

17:27 when you skipped over the side box that was me too - now I'm screaming at the screen like a pantomime 'it's behind you!' :)

Day 2 was quite tricky. Glad to see I was in good company, as many of us watching were also left scratching our heads for a bit.

13:07 yes! There's one right there!
13:56 you just touched it! 😂 OH this is such fun. I know you'll find it.
Yes, I got so close to solving it much more quickly - and yet failed. :) Thank you ever so much for watching and commenting!
Didn't know these exist. Love this idea! I will look out for this one for next year as we don't seem to have it here for this year.

Well done! Even if you work out what's going on straightaway, this is still a fairly time-consuming puzzle to solve!

The leaps in logic for this one make me wonder what they consider hard if this is supposed to be beginner-friendly.
We were totally lost with this once today even looking at the solution we were like "huh" until we had a "AHA!" moment XD

Had to use all 3 hint. Had no idea. Tried counting the exit signs in small to large. It was hard today. So well done!

I was worried as well. We decided to arrange the cards, take a picture on a phone and markup the image. the word thankfully jumped right out at us

For me it would have really helped if I'd realized the red area showed the /exact/ location to look for the number on each T! :)
This was a tough one, but we got there in the end. Definitely not “beginner” level though!
Yes, I agree! :) There are several separate deductions you need to make to solve that one puzzle. ;)

That's exactly right though - although I failed to realise that it was also giving you the exact location of the numbers within the T.
