I think after the 30th time a gag or sketch was used it was wearing thin. Benny never adapted for the more modern TV age where things got repeated and people had videos and so watched his shows often and what seemed fresh when you couldn’t see it again; became old hat.
Jackie Wright was always my favorite character on the show, the poor guy always got face slapped, head tapped and kicked on the butt ... very funny guy, love them both !!!
Ogeid Zepol Actualy Jackie never got slap or kick on the butt, it was all pretending, once the sketches was edited the noise was added. I heard an interview with Benny from Australia where he explained how they would do the noise and never once was Jackie hit (he was in his 70’), but Benny got a few real good slap on the face by the girls...mostly when he does the detergent commercial bit....when he slaps the washing machine and the last girl gets in the way and he slaps her bottom, oh boy she turns around and give him a good one on the ear and you can see Benny’s reaction that was not acting he really felt the sting of the slap!
Lar M he said the same thing to his show girls but never took the time to do it, so all his nephew and nieces he barely knew got the jackpot. He had a brother Leonard and a sister who lived in Australia her name was Diana I think. Since his brother and sister died before him their kids got the loot...not bad 11 millions pounds.

Benny Hill invited Northern Irish comedian and musician Jackie Wright to join his regular TV troupe in the 'sixties, and he was a huge hit for many years - usually being repeatedly slapped on the head by Benny in their trademark move! Jackie left the Benny Hill show in 1983, due to ill health. He died in a Belfast hospital 5 years later, aged 84. On news of his death, Benny Hill said: "He was a lovely little fella... I'm saddened beyond words". They were a great double act!

I heard a story about Benny meeting for the first time Jackie Wright, apparently Jackie was a trombone player in a band that came to Benny’s city when he was young and that is when he first saw Jackie performing. Many many years later what do you know Jackie is in the Benny Hill show, what a coincidence of life!
The Benny Hill Show is still a BIG favourite of mine. He was lambasted by the PC Brigade which has stopped his show being repeated on UK television. If the fools actually watched the show they'd see that the women always had the upper hand.
I couldn't agree more. Lots of his shows are, at the time of writing, being shown on Freeview channel 91 in the UK. And most of the women do get the better of the men.
Used to watched this with my dad back in the day and both of us laughing. Sometimes , out of the Blue, Dad would say to me “you put manure in your rhubarb ???” And I knew the answer 😂
those people who think his show is sexist been thick and stupid , human body is part of art and he really presented all his act in a very very nice way,. Benny always tell '' ugly'' he should know better , yes all ugly until proof other way!
He was hilarious but his comedy became dated by the late 80s. It wasn’t the political left that did for him either, it was the conservative right giving the likes of Mary Whitehouse a voice and her campaign to get rid of anything she deemed bad for the public’s mental health.

@@punkoid76 it was also video recorders became more common place and shows being repeated more often. So people started to see his old shows and then compared them with the new and realised it was all the same and rehashed. I love him, specially the earlier years when he did seem more creative.

Most his adult life was paying music (trombone) and vaudeville acts or shows, I don’t really know how Benny and him met, apparently Benny saw him as an extra in the program Z cars, after that he was in the Benny Hill show and by the 70’s he was a regular on the show until he retired in early 80’s due to illness. Never got married just like Benny, he was also a loner, he died in a nursing home in 1989 he was 84 years old, so that is three years before Benny who died he was 68 years old.
