I visited Shaxi last year, met the Canadian guy in his restaurant and the American one in his boutique store. Would have been fun to stumble in to you. Your video is great, I'm considering with my wife to also move to a smaller place in China such as Dali, so it's really great to see your experience!
In Chinese tradition people offer things from food to flowers to small household items to their ancestors on their graves. Lots of young people live in cities now, and they can only go back to visit the cemetery once a year (or even longer) to clean previous offerings and place new ones. I suspect some of the trash are things placed on graves that got scattered around by natural elements.
If this man's life somehow represents the idea of "life is struggle" for you...hmmm....maybe you better look for people, who really struggle and would love a bit of pleasure in their lives, if only for a moment...🙂
Thanks for sharing your story. p.s. re: trash on the trails, locate the local leaders and mention it to them, I'm once they are notified of this or are further pressed with this issue, something will be done about it, e.g. an education campaign to stop littering there, etc. 🕊
Really admirable of your full assimilating into the Chinese cultures and value. From the first-tier city to a tiny village. It sure takes lots of adjustment of comfort and convenience. But the invaluable intangible experience is rich and rewarding. Wish you good health and keep your vlog going and reach more biased Westerners.
6:34 Oh nice a monk. Burgundy robes usually signifies Tibetan monks. There's a lot of Nyingma schools. And if one find any ones with prominent yellow crests they'd be of the Gelug schools. Have you tried to touch the creek/ spring water in Lijiang? It should be ice cold bc the water there is from the nearby snow capped mountains.
Acupuncture should not be painful though. That being said I had acupuncture one morning without eating and there was a rush of energy I felt and I sweat like crazy and almost fainted.
I almost laughed out loud when I heard you say you hate those KTV nights at your neighbor's house. I wonder, when your video is posted on Bilibili and your neighbor watches it, how they would react. Please follow up.
I still think is consider very better than some states in western sides. (the rubbish and sound) China are encouraging environment companys to do more on this area. I can live with it.
Well, their singing were not pleasurable to listen to but it is a way of life to socialise and destress during dial down times, some liked it and some avoided it, obviously you are the latter. 😂

They may live in the countryside village. But they seem to have a very happy and peaceful life. With fresh air everyday.
The more pleasure you get the less happy you become.
Such friendly neighbors!❤️👍

I think your pet dog is the biggest winner of your move to this Shaxi.
You can tell he (the dog) just loves those moments in the forest.
such a great view of your neighbour sitting high on the wall/fence. very unimaginable, and interesting!
haha yeah ,,, cannot agree more !! 😁😁😁😄
You are right, man. Life is not about pleasure. It’s about struggle. Most people don’t understand it…

Nice video, Paul! Shaxi is a nice place to relax and enjoy life.
Struggle makes success sweet and life more meaningful. Many people now have no ability to understand this.

I loved living in the rural village or farm.
Entertaining, shaxi is one of the places I hope to visit some time in the future.

Cool vid, howd you film it all tho ? Hasnt china got pretty strict policies about foreigners lviing abroad and handling cameras anywhere ?
China may be the most cameras friendly country
It doesn't :)
@@paulschina but how'd you film the stuff still ? did you have a cameraman on a chopper and one following you or sth ?

There is no education of waste management for the old villagers, or young villagers. Garbage everywhere. That's depressing.

Many people would wish to swap life in tge Countryside rather than living in a mega city like Shanghai! But you will miss some and gain another!
Ask your wife to make a request or write to the city government. You can tell the head of your village the problem.
Drunk and sitting on top of a high wall… is highly not recommended 😂

I can’t believe that the locals throw their garbage in their fields. Just crazy. What a shame.
It is 3 km or more to walk to a rubbish bin to throw your trash. There is nothing shameful about the practice

Get seriously educated about its efficacy! Don’t slander!
