Verify there isn't a prepayment penalty. Make 3 to 6 payments, then pay off the principal. This is the only way to negotiate as a cash buyer at a dealership, that is attractive to a sales person or finance mgr.

The used market is actually being flooded with repossessed Hellcats and Scats, and tons of base V6 Chargers. Back in 2005 Ford dealerships were selling the GT super cars for $150-$175,000. Today those are rare collectibles going for $300,000-$400,000+ for obvious reasons. I can probably see this with the Vipers possibility one day, but I can’t see the Hellcats and Scats increasing like that because the market is saturated with them. They’re not hard to find new or used, but dealerships are in denial.

I'm an RT owner, had several and was part of the Chrysler working family for a bit. I have to admit after working on these for over 12 years now, the LD, LX platform minus some of the newer engine platforms are really antiquated and they show their age really quick. It's no wonder they cannot keep any value now or after 3 years. Not so much apparent 2 years ago with what was on the market. But this year, and next, they are showing their age in build and quality and everything is surpassing the genre. Everything is changing. Again and again.

I currently own a 2020 Scat Pack Widebody Challenger. I was looking at new ones and couldn't believe the prices. I paid $55k in 2021. Now they're charging like $75k for a SPWB. No one is going to pay that in this economy. Majority of people don't have the money to spend on such a vehicle and the ones that do are not gonna pay that price. These are going to sit and rot and I'm glad. It's never worth paying markup even if you have the money and want the vehicle because it's money you'll never see again. It's just throwing money away, literally. Eventually they will have to come down if they want to get rid of them. It's just economic sense.

Brad the closest dealer with a King Daytona is at a $35,000 markup. The salesman calls every once in a while to talk but doesn't want to drop the markup. It's 149 days or so on the lot now! Since the world is going nuts right now Israel, Ukraine the economy and all just driving my Mustang might be the smarter play. In a little while it could be that nobody will be thinking about cars or there might not be any gas to put in it! I hope none of that comes to pass but not looking good!

Another factor I know in my area and demographic with those particular dodges are not only gas factor but risk some headaches and maybe even danger of ownership of those cars. And then to add 20-40k mark ups. No it’s not a good move and it is, as you’ve stated, totally a mismatch for the economic times we’re in currently! Let's balance the factors that going in to justifying the mark up: they are no longer making these. Problem is that that is weighed against the fact that they supply is exceeding demand, it is an aging platform, skyrocketing cost of fuel, skyrocketing inflation eating up everyone's disposable income. They should be happy as pigs in sh*t if they can get MSRP right now. Especially for any narrow bodies. I think that would be a deal breaker for 90% Hellcat buyers today. Those need to be deeply discounted!

The same dealer that was selling the 2024 Limited for around 105k, had a fully loaded all black brand new with 12 miles on the clock 2023 Jailbreak Challenger with HK stereo, alcantera, sunroof for 86k. Yes this car wasn't in some large metro area but in a small farming community in the midwest but close enough to fly in, catch a cab and then drive the car home. So, all of my dealer contact was on the phone with out of town dealers. Not one of them even mentioned dealer markup over the phone. I'm going to bet less than half of them mentioned dealer markup when I asked about the price in person. Hearing a sales rep just disclose the markup over the phone before even taking their shot at trying to make the sale in person, is such an astronomically bad sales move that I have difficulty believing that's actually a sales rep.

So are you saying you paid $5k over msrp? Or you made a $5k down payment?

Hell yeah, fantastic news. The more of these dealerships that close up shop the better off we all are. They did this to themselves with the last few years of markups. Saw a Civic Type R priced $50,000 above MSRP. A $85,000 Honda Civic. Do I need to say it again?
They've also been running with the fully loaded "special edition" BS as well. When every single car on the lot is a special edition, ain't none of them special or unique.

$40k over sticker for a Dodge is insulting and stupid.
