  • Accu-Stats hosted a "Sneak Preview" of American Rotation featuring Jayson Shaw vs. Phil Burford. Billy Gibbs and Matt Tetrault are in the booth to provide commentary and insights.
This is the game of the new American Billiard Club League (ABC League).
This is a new concept brought to you by Joe Tucker and CSI.
American Rotation is an improved combination of traditional pocket billiard games.
AR (American Rotation) is played in rotation with balls numbered 1-15. Balls 1-10 receive a point value of 1 point each and balls 11-15 receive a point value of 2 points each for a total rack worth 20 points every time.
Play continues until one player reaches the predetermined required score to win the match, 50, 75, 100 & 150 is a typical pro length match.
Complete rules can be found at www.americanrot... and a scoring app is now available in the Google Play store!

I think ball in hand after the break is a cool way to play this, but I think that if the player scratches on the break than the opponent should be rewarded with ball in hand.

HERE's 10 GOOD REASONS WHY PHILIPPINE ROTATION IS HARDER:
    1. For starters, there is no cue ball in hand..not after the break nor in the event of a foul.
    2. Next the scoring corresponds to the numbers in the balls. First to get 61 points wins the game.
    3. In the event of a scratch, the cue ball has to be shot behind the headstring/kitchen, if the object ball is behind the headstring it's put on the footspot, and it goes behind any ball/balls that are already in the footspot area.
    4. In the event of a foul, the cue ball has to be shot behind the headstring/kitchen and the object ball is put on the footspot, and it goes behind any ball/balls that are already in the footspot area.
    5. No jump cues allowed nor can you jump the cue ball over an entire ball, you can jump a little bit over the sides of a ball.
    6. Your opponent can play safe by slow rolling the cue ball and hitting a cushion first then the object ball without having to hit the cushion again.
    7. No options whatsoever.
    8. If no ball goes down after the break, you shoot where the cue ball lies.
    9. If you play safe and your opponent has no direct path to the object ball...he can call "Spot" and the object ball will be placed behind the footspot, you will then have to shoot it behind the headstring. However, if the object ball peeks out behind an obstructing ball, even if it's a slither of a hair he cannot call "Spot" and he has to shoot it directly or through a cushion.
    10. There is also a version called "Escalera" which requires you to pocket the balls in order before you get points. In the event of a fluke, carrom or combination, the potted ball goes back to the footspot.

It is a lot more interesting a game for sure, and its rules seem more logical, but is any game really "harder" than another? Besides like One-Pocket?

I like this game, my son and I play rotation all the time, but depending on the level of play the "race" can be adjusted without changing the rules etc. so amatuers play race to 51 instead of 100, 150. If weekly leagues, are to have match play, you adjust the "race" to whatever is reasonable for your players.

Seems like a good game for medium speed players to adapt to a league format.

Why would a scratch result in ball in hand for the same person?

Yeah, dumb rule, in my opinion. I don’t mind simplified scoring so much, though.

I agree with one thing is this for sure and that is pool players seem to get stuck in what they like and habit. Any new game comes out or any game with a few rules that take a couple time of playing the game to fully understand the players just immediately turn away from it.

Maybe award a point to a played safety that results in a ball in hand(foul). Incentive for safety play. :) BTW. Lights out shooting!!!

Trying to build a Nike Tour or farm type system for pool players Marty, take it easy. We don't want their money, we want to give them money while making it more sensible & affordable for them compete nationally.

What makes it 'much easier' exactly. Also, rotation pool was introduced to the Philipines by U.S. servicemen.

Rotation in Maluku (called "bola 15" here):
      1) Most rules are same as the 9 ball.
      a) You have to shoot the lowest number first.
      b) If the lowest number ball is hit first, even though any balls don't hit any rails after that, the shot is legal. No foul.
      c) No matter what ball you pocket, as long as the cue ball hit the lowest number ball first, you get points. In other words, flukes, carrom, or combination is allowed.
      2) The points are based on the number of balls.
      3) Rules for scoring work like snooker.
      a) The player who get the most points wins the game.
      b) If the point difference is larger than the points of balls remaining, the game automatically ends.
      c) The points are given to the opponent. The points are given based on the lowest number ball on the table.
      d) If you make a foul but you also pocket balls, the points apply as usual.
      4) You don't automatically win even though the 15 ball is pocketed, unlike in 9 ball or 10 ball.
      5) This is not a call-shot/call-pocket/call-rail game, just like in 9 ball or snooker.
      6) No ball in hand. You have to shoot wherever the ball lies.
      7) "Spot rule" applies if you make any fouls. You put the lowest ball to the "spot", and the opponent put the cue ball anywhere behind the line.
      8) It is possible to get more than 120 points, just like snooker where it is possible to get more than 147 points.
