when I think that I know alot about the ASIAIR Plus - something comes up to make me humble again.
The new version included the Mosaic function which I had been using Telescopius for, it poses a different challange.
One thing that I wish was that there was a web page that you could go to and program some of the functions before booting up the ASIAIR Pro/Plus, this would allow you to set up targets and then apply these settings to the live sky.
Another thing - I have a section of trees which kill me facing South-East. If I could set up some sort of blind spot and let it calculate when it knows that it can not see the sky and logically move to a second target and then back to the original target when it is again visible, that would be awesome. Even if you just get a rough setting of where the scope can not see or have it track even without seeing the stars until it does see them again (blind following the sky until it can see the stars and re-acquire tracking). Two functions which would be great for ZWO to add to the ASIAIR. I assume that I am not alone when it comes to obstructions for viewing.
ZWO should hire you to make videos of all the features the Asi Air has.

Just watched your Meridian Flip Asiair video and commented there re. my need to match a camera angle tonight when I continue imaging Horsehead - so this was the ideal follow up video! Many thanks for it!!
I noticed last night that viewing a sub on Asiair gives you a "goto" option which i found useful after my failed Flip to get back to my precise previous framing - it worked well. Maybe I could use that tonight to resume last night's framing and then sort out the angle rotation in Sky Atlas as you so helpfully described.
I can't tell you how useful all your videos have been to this newbie over the past few months Peter. I've been able to get set up and do good guided imaging with zero problems thanks to you.

Once again another well structured presentation Nick. Also the opening explination on orientation actually answered my own question about the 90 deg rotation difference. Threw me off two years ago when I first started and now I have the answer thanks to you. In the large number of astro videos that I've been watching, most overlook the need for framining and thus camera rotation. Really cool that ASI added the rotation direction needed, taking the guess work out of things.
OMG, you are simplifying my workflow so much! As a photographer, framing and composition is so important. I have carried that over to my astrophotography and spend way too much time framing my targets (widefield, so a lot fits in a frame). I knew about the rotate icon and slider but not really how to use it, so I was doing a lot of trial and error nudging the framing rotation. Thank you for helping me get more imaging time in!

Echoing the the many praises listed in the comments, I too would love to see a complete Windy City library of “getting the most out of ASIAIR.” No one does it better than you Nick. Quickly, have you done a video on getting the most out of guiding using the AIR? If anyone can deliver on this topic, I’m sure it would be you.
Thanks so much! Guiding is a complex one and varies so much from setup to setup. I think I just need to bite the bullet and do it for my particular setup and people can hopefully apply it, rather than trying to cover it all 😄

Wow, thanks, I didn’t realize that saved photos have the rotation angles recorded. I imaged Andromeda weeks ago, and I want to do it again tonight, but I was dreading trying to manually match the rotation angle by eye. It’s critical because M31 barely fits in my 480mm scope on a diagonal. It all looks easy to do now, thanks!

Hi, Nick - Thanks very much for making this video. Your videos are always excellent. I am still trying to get a handle on Telescopius rotation vs ASIAir. My experience is that Telescopius and ASIAir angles differ, but not necessarily by 90 degrees. I had no issues composing in Telescopius at 0 and 90 degrees. However, recently a Telescopius angle of 220 degrees (-140 equivalent) gave me the composition I was after while planning in Telescopius. When I plate solved in ASIAir to 220 degrees, I got a completely different angle. After researching this, I saw some individuals use 360 - the Telescopius angle (also the positive number for the “- equivalent number”). This worked for me… framing at 140 degrees in ASIAir looked like 220 degrees in Telescopius… in this case an 80-degree difference. Using that math, the 45-degree angle variants (45, 135, 225, 315) will give a 90-degree (or 270-degree) difference. I have not seen a good explanation on why this is the case and am wondering if you have any insights on this or have run into this issue.

Hi, awesome tutorials. I have a question I can't answer. I've read that with the new AM5 harmonic mount it's a good idea to set the exposure of the guide camera to 0.5 - 1.0 sec (objectively, I had never considered the problem before, on AsiAir plus, I set the gain). I looked in the asiair ap settings but I only found the exposure time setting for the lights. Can you who have experience tell me something about this?

Hi Nick, very helpful to this AP beginner! Do you leave your gear out working all night while being asleep? If so, how do you deal with the 2 - 5% chance of rain on most clear summer nights in Chicago?
As a user of the ASIAIR, I found this very helpful. I assumed that you needed an electronic rotator device to use this option. Which begs the question, does the ASIAIR support rotators?
Glad to hear it was useful, Richard! ZWO doesn't make a rotator (yet) but I know a lot of people have been wanting one for a while that will work with the ASIAir. It would seem all the pieces are in place for it to finally happen!
So I went out and tried your rotation technique and felt it went well as far as the rotation went. However, when the camera was rotated it would not track. PA was good in both the zero degree and rotated orientation but the RA/DEC graft was crazy bad. The stars were all circles. Did I miss something? Can you tell from that description what I did wrong?
If you just copy a picture onto the asiair and view it, you can plate solve it. Doesn't that now show angle? I'll try mine and see.
I tried that with an old preview that was on my ASIAir and it didn't, but let me know what your result is! It'd be great if so!
I don’t like rotating the camera angle (even though I have a rotator) due to cable gets oriented the wrong way. I just have it one way for best cable angle.
