Bedard is overhyped the top six forward at best. If he was truly the generational Tallent he could put the team on his back at a moments notice yeah has some flashy plays but nothing crazy. But also the GM in Chicago is also managing the team like NHL25
One player does not make a team. When you have multiple players that 'should' be performing at a higher level than expected, there is either a problem with team chemistry, overall strategy, or coaching.
As more a puckhead than a bh fan I think it is hard for a fanbase to be patient given that people I think incorrectly looked at this roster after the off season and literally were talking about possible playoffs which is well probably off. There is a video that the blackhawks produce probably once every 2 - 3 months called every shift. In the video I believe in a meeting it was the asst. gm made a comment AFTER they aquired all these players “Where are the goals going to come from?”. These people usually know way more than the avg fan so when I saw that I was like oh boy. This team has been close in almost every game but the thing is you have to put in perspective that the players they signed were playing on very good teams. I can not speak for the bh gm but in interviews he has said they wanted to be more competitive BUT when pushed more more wins he kinda walked around that. These players they signed do not suck BUT they are not going give you the numbers they had inTor or Carolina. They are not total drivers. The two signing I do not get is Bertuzzi and Brodie. You could almost look at any pro athlete amd say they are inconsistent but he has really had some long MIA stints in his career. My only thought of why the bh signed him was they figured once they start contending he would be a bigger piece but still not sure why. Brodie is also an interesting one although he is only two years. The structure they are playing right now really hinders O time and your point is well takedn that if not for the strong goaltanding they would be way worse than they are now. They beat Florida the other night but as someone watching the game it was a let’s say interesting watch. Not much going on. Sports fandom is so weird now because you have people that follow a team and that team only so if the team is not doing well refardless of the situation they get very impatient amd worse do not enjoy the rest of the league. Right now nhl is such a great watch and espn+ in the states is silly awesome. If I was a fan of bh but also loved the game I would mostly watch other teams and catch the highlights or condensed games on nhl.com. This team is so far off. They are definitely building this team from the back forward so the O will not flourish for quite awhile. Soory as that was way long. All have a great weekend.
He is a good player, one thing he does not have is breakout speed. So he relies on vision and play making. Been making some bad behind the back plays lately. This season is pretty much a non playoff year for sure, so just try not to get injured. Hawks should be in good shape to make some trades as the year goes on, 3 solid goalies so can trade 1, some other players some playoff push teams will be able to use. If they can get rid of Seth Jones and that massive contract, next year could be really interesting for them. Vlasic will be a monster defenseman, already looking real good, they have a good core of players they will definitely keep, some talent in the pipeline. 2-3 years and they will be good again, or playoff competitive anyways. Currently as the team stands, I feel the players on the roster are not being used properly. Perhaps they`re still trying to stock up on draft picks and don`t really want to win. Some players like Reichel, Hall, have natural speed and can be used to shut down the other Teams top line, cause neither seems to have a nose for the net. The Hawks seem hell bent on turning Reichel into a goal scorer and I don`t see it, but his speed can be used as a positive. They should have a 4th line bruiser line too with Foligno, Maroon to set the tone.
For those comparing Bedard to the likes of Ovechkin, Crosby, McDavid and so on: -all these players were older than Bedard when they entered the league. -they mostly had better teams and at least a line that was more supportive -a coach that knew how to play them -Bedard is still the second youngest player now! And the youngest when Celebrini is sidelined. Even Michkov is older now as a rookie Let's face it, the Hawks coach needs to go. Having to watch Bedard play wing on a "shutdown" line vs the best line during the Florida game is a clear example that the Hawks have no idea what they are doing with Bedard. He is a pure center and did just fine in that position all of last year. There is no chemistry on the team right now. There is very little backchecking from the forwards to help the defense. The lines change almost every game. This is 95% coaching! Major moves need to be made for a winger to play with Bedard that has talent. They should use some of their 1sr round draft picks to go get a good winger or two. There is already plenty of young up and coming talent for the Hawks. Finally fire Richardson ASAP
Hawks management should be embarrassed of the product they have put out on the ice. They are going nowhere. Outside of Bedard, there draft picks are average at best. Bedard should finish his entry level contract and say sayonara.
Nazars lighting up the AHL, levshunovs been decent for coming straight to the AHL, Korch sucks unfortunately but dmen take longer to develop. Boisvert and more are both doing pretty good in NCAA too
When Bedard came to the Hawks, it was a team completely devoid of talent, especially up front. He got the keys to the franchise immediately, and that pressure is consuming him. I think he is trying to do too much, gripping his stick and overthinking. At least when McDavid went to the Oil or Matthews went to the Leafs, there was talent and other capable young players that they could bond with and share the ice with but Bedard only had two overpriced, washed guys like Jones and Hall and Hall got injured so the man was all alone to do what he could as an 18 year old with all eyes on him.
Yeah the amount of pressure, talent, and the overall situation is very different compared to other 1st overall picks. Hawks have to get some talent in the coming years to help him out with his development
Leaning too heavily on a 19 year old is probably a bad strategy, for starters. Seattle has done a much better job with Shane Wright, for example. Sure, he's not Connor Bedard, but he's still a good young hockey player who will develop into a good NHL player, all the while Seattle probably improving as a hockey team by signing good veterans long-term like Chandler Stephenson and Brandon Montour. Guys who can help the young players develop and still make the team fun to watch.
Still early in the season. I wouldn’t worry. Looking at other prospects like jack huges developing can take time. Crosby and ovechkin seemed more developed at 18 and more like men than bedard does. Just a thought
Not everyone is Crosby and Ovechkin so yes don’t be worried. Bedard has plenty of time to develop, hopefully the Hawks give him some solid linemates to play with in the future
I agree, 100 . I might get some heat back, but Bedard is not the player people thought he was going to be. He should be killing it. Unfortunately Ryan Donato is a rockstar this year. 😊 and yes, there are some players that I think put too much pressure on number 98.
You are right. He is not mature enough to play in the big league and needs some time in the AHL so he is not overwhelmed trying to lead the team, which is what he is doing, trying to lead the team, but the team is so inconsistent that it is breaking him. The coaching sux. Look at what they did with Reichel last year! They got an All Star, a very fast All Star and yet they played him on his weakest position instead of playing his strength. When he went back to the Ice Hogs a few games, they put him where he works best and it showed.
Compared to other generational forwards, (Gretzky, Lemieux, Jagr, Lindros, Ovechkin, Crosby, McDavid) Bedard is really not physically gifted like all of them. He's undersized, not especially strong, or fast. He can't create his own offense as easily as those others.
@jimmyhockey Size, like all physical features does matter. Otherwise players like Lemieux, Jagr, Ovechkin, Lindros wouldn't have been so dominant. Bedard physically is lacking all other "generational" forwards in my 35 years of watching hockey. He has nothing compared to those players physically. If Caulfield is his comparable, he isn't close to "generational."
@Cedisdead Yes he's three inches shorter and he plays small. If you haven't seen McDavid adeptly use his body to protect the puck as he carries it then you must never have watched him play.
Lowkey couldn’t imagine an entire fanbase talking negatively of stuff I did before I’m 20. Like good player but on a rebuilding team, give him a break. If he was in Anaheim or Calgary he’d be doing so much better
the problem is that he doesn't have a good team around him. Imagine if he were playing with like nashville and was with Stamkos or in Boston with Marchand and Pastrnak or his hometown team the Canucks with Petterson and Miller or the Rangers with Panarin and Zibenejad and Kreider and how much more productive he'd be
Give Chicago a little credit, they did try to get some help this year with teurovainen and Bertuzzi at least. Unfortunately it just hasn’t worked out yet
@@jimmyhockey indeed they have they're trying which is great but ofc those players you mentioned aren't as prolific as those guys i said like stamkos, marchand, pastrnak, petterson, etc. ofc teravainen was a major contributor of that 2015 stanley cup team and i think was that youngest player on that team during that run so his championship pedigree certainly will help but the on ice product ofc yah isn't as well documented or prolific like others around the league
He needs time in the AHL with Seney, Dach, and damn, the defense guys escape me at the moment and it is NOT Phillips. Hell even teamed with Reichel when he is in the ight position would be an improvement. Seney is the type of leader that would push Bedard into doing his best. Last Year Seney was in the top ten in points, and the Ice Hogs MVP, prior year he was one of 3 all Stars from the Hogs. This year he is Team Captain and he earned it. Dach is also an excellent player along with Guttman and a few others. Just look at how Nazar III is doing so far. This is what Bedard needs in order to get his confidence back and some order in his plays.
Its a team game and there is no hope, thank Kyle Davidson he is clearly tanking the team on purpose or is grossly incompetent, most likely both. I can build a team if I consistently get top 3 picks. Bedard has indicated to those paying attention a severe lack of talent, which is on Davidson. Effort is on the coach. When Foligno is your captain and constantly on highlighted reels you have a problem, he's a great 4th liner
I agree. Davidson hasn’t done anything so far that a knowledge hockey could do…and for a lot less money😆. The thing that concerns me is Davidson seems to lack the “magic” that separates the average GM from a truly effective one. He just doesn’t seem to be…at least so far…a GM that can find “diamond in rough” free agents to shore up this team and have comeback type seasons. I realize it’s an difficult task but it’s one he signed on for and is paid well for. As far as Bedard…I’m going to continue to remind myself this season what Wayne Gretzky said after the Blackhawks loss to the Redwings a couple weeks ago. He basically said to be patient with the rebuild and with Conner Bedard and that he’s only 19 years.
Haters that are still salty that the Hawks got Bedard are REALLY REALLY trying to convince people that Bedard is unhappy and will leave at first chance. It’s actually kinda cute, can’t wait to see all the Canadians mad when he resigns with Chicago repeatedly. Hawks current coach isn’t the guy and needs to be changed IMO.
Not good enough sign a real deal player to play with Bedard and watch shit happen. Typical Chicago sports management. None of the Chicago teams know how to manage a team.
It's not Bedar, It's not the rest of the team, well, not ALL the tea, there are a couple that come to mind who suck, but it is the coaching that is screwing up the team. Defense sux, and they keep breaking up the strings instead of running the players with each other to learn off each other to better strike at the net. Ice Hogs share teh exact same issue with inconsistant team ups between players. If they find a string that works, stick with it!
" His shooting percentage is below his usual standards " You know Jimmy, his usual standards is the WHL or Junior Hockey, this is a different beast altogether. Getting tired of these misleading titles.
Why did anyone think bringing in a bunch of washed up players would help the Blackhawks win? Until Seth Jones is out of the picture the Hawks be behind the 8 ball.
@@jimmyhockey Both are pedestrian players. Okay, as filler for a team that already has offensive talent. I predicted a bottom-three finish for the Hawks and didn't expect Bedard to score 20. The Hawks never have the lead so he's not getting any empty netters to pad the stats.
Alright, lets face it, whoever is in charge of getting players for the Blackhawks is an Idiot. They let one of the hottest rookie goalies go to Utah this season. Stauber last year, 13 wins in a row, two shut outs and a shutout with a goal, the first in AHL History to do so, and this year a 2.5 GAA and .982 SA%.
@@jimmyhockey I am a Soderblom fan, have two of his jerseys, but he has not done well, 1W 4L 1OTL. He still has a decent GAA and SV%, so his losses weren't huge, but a loss is a loss. He did much better in the AHL and should have been kept there at least another year. Last years defense or lack of really got under his skin and you can see it when he was back on the Hogs for a bit. His head wasn't in the game until Defense kicked in and helped him out. Goaling is the toughest job, on ice the entire game. Mrazik is doing OK, but is also hampered by lack of defense. Cmon guys, defend that damned goal!
Pettersson necer looked the same after he was injured by the bodyslam, and Bedard hasn't looked as good since the jaw injury. These young superstars grow up being protected, and once they get to the NHL, they have no idea how to play against physical players.
Hes also too weak, horrible without puck, lacks defence, 200ft game is awful. Only good thing about is his finishing ability. Otherwise i dont see any generational about him.
@jimmyhockey probly a Lil more context lol, I've been saying since before he was drafted his defence is actually garbage, his +/- stat is always the single worst in the leauge and was gonna be his rookie year until chigcago got another player to ALWAYS be on the ice at the same time as him so he would eat worst +/- not bedard, so I think this year he is actually working on his defence and that's why his scoring has significantly dropped despite having hall and other on his team not just a glorified ahl team. If you want a more independent analysis my yt channel Mr.gayote has a video on there that describes it in full detail just how bad his defence stats work out to be.
Bedard has no help though. Crosby and Mcdavid had their draisital their malkin. Bedard needs that guy he’s the only hope for The Blackhawks. Without Bedard the Blackhawks would crumble

For those comparing Bedard to the likes of Ovechkin, Crosby, McDavid and so on:
-all these players were older than Bedard when they entered the league.
-they mostly had better teams and at least a line that was more supportive
-a coach that knew how to play them
-Bedard is still the second youngest player now! And the youngest when Celebrini is sidelined. Even Michkov is older now as a rookie
Let's face it, the Hawks coach needs to go.
Connor is not a good center.
Boisvert and more are both doing pretty good in NCAA too
Canuck spotted
Poor Bedard, Chicago's Ernie Banks...Great player who will probably never win a cup in Chi-town. Why win when the stands are full anyway.
I hope he gets transferred to Vancouver sometime soon
Don’t count on it for a while. Hawks will likely sign him soon and he will be there long term
No you don't. The dude is poison.
@@Borodin410 fk bro, you are some kind of serious hater.
Bedard is a beauty
Only facts with this comment
Sidney Crosby played after my team every second Saturday, And my tiny torpedo is still stuck on Marchands dock. FACTS!
Also the coach has never proven anything ever, and putting the NHL team in his hands is a mistake.
Bedard is not a goal scorer. He's a good assist player but that's it. I don't expect him to score more than 20 to 25 goals in a season.
BTW Flus is a great ...we need pics again :D
I think you gotta give it time. He is 19 and has plenty of time to grow into a star. Donato has been a positive though so that’s another good thing
Yeah he is and will be. He’s just not a center. he needs to play wing. he’s the worst face off taker in the league
@@jimmyhockey Time will tell thank you 😊
You are right.
Undersized doesn’t matter. Look at Patrick Kane, Johnny gaudreau, Cole Caufield, etc
@jimmyhockey
Size, like all physical features does matter.
@@jimmyhockeyI didn't know those guys were "generational talents". Size and speed absolutely still matter.
Is he really undersized compared to McDavid? I have never seen McD use his body
@Cedisdead
Yes he's three inches shorter and he plays small.
It’s true, the weight of expectations on this kid is just too high
Just admit he's not a generational talent. They don't need time or a great team to be good.
Bring up Frank Nazar already, he’s playing great!
the problem is that he doesn't have a good team around him.
He wouldn’t be top 6 on any of the teams you mentioned. He’s a good player but arrived with waaaaaaay too much hype.
No #1 pick has a "good team" around them. That's how the draft works. Genuine generational players still thrive. Bedard isn't one.
This is what Bedard needs in order to get his confidence back and some order in his plays.
the goat is backkkkkk
🐐
Yesterday Michkov beat Bedard on he first game 😳
Bedard is not the problem, his over usage and heavy reliance could be problematic to his develipment
Not good enough sign a real deal player to play with Bedard and watch shit happen. Typical Chicago sports management. None of the Chicago teams know how to manage a team.
New D coach ... keep the system for CW 1 mo year
They shoulda drafted demidov
Bruh
4:05 clip from 6+ years ago lol
Offensively yes Bertuzzi and Terrovainen were upgrades
@@jimmyhockey Both are pedestrian players. Okay, as filler for a team that already has offensive talent. I predicted a bottom-three finish for the Hawks and didn't expect Bedard to score 20. The Hawks never have the lead so he's not getting any empty netters to pad the stats.
No team chemistry and identiy
Alright, lets face it, whoever is in charge of getting players for the Blackhawks is an Idiot. They let one of the hottest rookie goalies go to Utah this season. Stauber last year, 13 wins in a row, two shut outs and a shutout with a goal, the first in AHL History to do so, and this year a 2.5 GAA and .982 SA%.
To be fair the goaltenders have been really solid this year in Chicago. That’s the one area of this team that has been a bright spot this far
Bedard has crap players around him. Real bad. Chicago is screwing up. Fix it
Give them some credit they at least tried to get Him some better line mates but it just hasn’t worked out
Pettersson necer looked the same after he was injured by the bodyslam, and Bedard hasn't looked as good since the jaw injury. These young superstars grow up being protected, and once they get to the NHL, they have no idea how to play against physical players.
I don’t think that’s it since when he came back with the bubble last year he was a beast.
He's undersized and it shows more and more as he keeps getting pushed around like a toddler.
Undersized isn’t a big deal, look at players like Gaudreau, Kane, Caufield, etc they all have been studs despite the size
There could be the possibility that this kid isn’t that good.
Some kids light it up in junior, idk
Bedard is more then Good. They have a Lottery Pick to snag 🤓
They could potentially be picking top 3 again at the next draft
He is not ready yet. He is to Young
Hes also too weak, horrible without puck, lacks defence, 200ft game is awful. Only good thing about is his finishing ability. Otherwise i dont see any generational about him.
He has already been a 60 point player. The team just has no one else to score so defenses crash him whenever he gets the puck
They are trying to burn him out so they may appear better players. Sabbotage never looks good on anyone, though.
Need a drum tight goalie
Chicago is struggling? Aw man, that’s too bad.
- Minnesota
CB98 is way overrated. Just my personal opinion.
Dude is small and he’s playing against men.
There’s nothing wrong with him
No grit. Too Soft.
Get over it. Bedard just is not that good. He does not work. He is a floater. Average player.
people fall for alot of overrated pundit talk about many players....
overrated, its plain to see
Connor Bedard isn’t a Generational Talent 😂😂😂😂
I like him but I agree.
Too many bottom of the barrel teams in the NHL. More should be done to keep all teams at least somewhat competitive.
I disagree, the NHL has so much parody right now and there are a lot of good teams.
Plain and simple another over hyped player. I'd rather watch Cooley. Bedard is not that great.....yet.
looks like devils a few years ago.
Yeah just a very young and inexperienced team
when the man begged for subs i thumbs downed and did NOT sub! never will.
Bédard is over rated
Hes just not that good. He is a star but will never be a superstar!
Nothing wong w Bedard, the supporting cast is terrible. Outside of Richel there is no one else
Coach change needed.
oh no, its almost like Bedard is having to work on his defense finally, how terrible.
The whole team defensively needs to improve. Again he is 19 and an offensive driven player, give him time
@jimmyhockey probly a Lil more context lol, I've been saying since before he was drafted his defence is actually garbage, his +/- stat is always the single worst in the leauge and was gonna be his rookie year until chigcago got another player to ALWAYS be on the ice at the same time as him so he would eat worst +/- not bedard, so I think this year he is actually working on his defence and that's why his scoring has significantly dropped despite having hall and other on his team not just a glorified ahl team. If you want a more independent analysis my yt channel Mr.gayote has a video on there that describes it in full detail just how bad his defence stats work out to be.
Bedard wont never be generational talent. I havent seen him being anything close to crosby or mcdavid who are generational talents.
Bedard has no help though. Crosby and Mcdavid had their draisital their malkin. Bedard needs that guy he’s the only hope for
The Blackhawks. Without Bedard the Blackhawks would crumble
@Hockeystereotype2636 i still havent seen him dominating like crosby or mcdavid did when they were youngsters like bedard. To me the hype was always too much. Hes talented but weak asf and he has alot weaknesses in his game.
@@Jooseppi420 I agree but if Mcdavid or Crosby had to do it all themselves on a horrible Blackhawks team in their second or first season I think they’d be in the same position Bedard is in
He’s 19 and has played just over one season let’s pump the breaks a bit
