    Thanks for making a trike video without bashing them. Rode 2 wheels for 40 years, went to 3 wheels due to equilibrium problems. Thanks to Harley for continuing to improve the trike.

    I started on 2's and moved to trikes in 2015 because my wife had a bad hip and couldn't take being on 2's. I bought a 2019 in September and LOVE it! 6k miles on her and counting. Smooth as silk ride out to Los Angeles from Dallas in October! The TC was useful while riding in the heavy rains going into turns!!! And the engine change from a 103 to a 114...ABOUT TIME HD!!! PERFECT FOR THE FLHTCUTG!!

    Trikes are the T bucket of motorcycles. And they are great to have. But more importantly they help those that may not want, or can ride on two wheels and that's awesome.

    John,
    I rode an HD Trike (after a Road Glide and Breakout) at an HD demo event just for grits ‘n shiggles, and to answer given curiosities... I’m hooked! This thing was so damn pleasurable and cornered like a slot car. As a rider who enjoys extreme weather riding day or night, should I ever be in a position to buy a full tourer, I’ll probably get one of these. To the naysayers: just try it first.
    I’m so happy HD is addressing the clutch engagement thing. I own an ‘05 with cable clutch and hydraulic was my biggest disappointment at that same event.
    Keep on keepin’ on... hope to make my second ride a 3-wheeler one day!

    I'm glad you brought up the difference in turning a trike vs. 2-wheel.. In four months I'll begin my 51st year on two wheels. When I lose the faculty of balance and/or too stiff/old to get on/off, I'll quit.. If I tried to ride a trike I'd be dead within one mile....'cause I'd "lean" into the turn, go the opposite direction and end up as a truck's hood ornament.. Great video - as always..

    I took the '19 trike for a demo ride at the Barber's Vintage Festival in Birmingham, Alabama last October. After having to watch a 10-minute video on the trike systems and being given a pep talk by the factory demo guys, I was curious about all the fuss of riding a trike. After I pulled away to do my parking lot familiarization ride, I COULDN'T KEEP MY FEET UP! After 40 years of two-wheelers, my muscle memory insisted on putting my foot down at stops. During the entire ride, I had to keep reminding myself to keep my feet on the footboards. Riding a trike is a completely different experience. John's right about taking one for a test ride before buying one.

    I ride an '05 Road Glide I had converted to a trike because my whole lower back is destroyed... Would love to get a new one, but I am now so spoiled by the frame mounted faring I didn't even want to try the new Tri-Glide. The reason I went with building one tho was because the former Lehmann rear end was so stiff and not independent suspension, but with this new one being independent, that warrants at least a test ride!!! Thank you Mr. Maxwell for the thorough infomercials!!!

    I have owned two trikes now I had the 2012 in which we road to Alaska and back. I went back to two wheel medical reason (lower legs) I had to come off. I purchased the 2017 while deployed and love it. I have added a lot to it to make it mine. The Demo ride help and even thou I had a trike I was to watch a video but lucky for me the DVD broke LOL so I had a small demo in the parking lot to prove I knew how to. This is a great video to show what you could. I loved the radio and suspension and wished they would have redesigned the trunk. So I added shock and lift kit the trike rocks plus the recluse clutch and mMD reverse. Electric motor on them are not good. Thanks again

    Excellent video!
    I couldn't deal with that tinted windshield. It obscures too much road.
    Two wheeled motorcyclists are always telling us how much upper body strength trikes (Harley and BRP Spyder) takes, but I didn't find it objectionable at all. Perhaps if I rode one all day for a long day...
    At first I thought I'd want a Harley Trike, and got my 3 wheeled MSF endorsement. Turns out I prefer the way a BRP Spyder rides better. They are strange looking - but fun.
    That Harley is $38K? YIKES. That's $11K more than the last new car I bought!

      Been riding since 9yrs old, I'm 63 now. Bought a 17' Tri Glide 2 yrs ago because I'm into the touring bikes and they keep getting heavier every year. Rented a trike for 3 days and put 600 miles on it. Took it back to the dealers and bought one. Last year a deer ran out in front of me. I was doing about 50mpg. Didn't T-bone it but just clipped the lower part of it's rear leg with the front tire. Big thump through the forks. Both of us survived. Not sure that a two wheeler would have stayed up. Harley really needs to compete with the reverse trike market. I know they're terrified of some of their customer base hating the idea but they need to take risks. I am now sure how the styling would look but can am has got that market down pack. The reverse trike would alleviate a lot of the issues Harley is having with the trikes steering and stability. Can am has power assisted steering so that it is not difficult to turn for older folks. This is why they're losing so many customers because they're too afraid to take any risks.

I've never ridden a trike (per se) but have driven a couple of side car rigs - 1 on a Gold Wing and the other on a HD with manual shift (lever.) John, what do you think about the linked brake system? I’m working on an ‘18 115 anniversary trike at our dealership out in the Pacific Northwest for one of our Vietnam Vets.
    His old trike we liked up the front & rear master cylinders since he can only use the front brake. The newer set ups have changed the thread pitch on the master cylinders not allowing us to do the same set up. I’m planning on tapping into the link somewhere to get the same effect.
    Short story long, what do think about how much percentage the front brake is linking up with the rear?

    • @TheHarleyTech
      @TheHarleyTech  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use both brakes when stopping, so I didn’t notice it. The only time I’ve ever noticed it on the touring models is when there is a big wheel and the front brake lever pushes out. The system thinks that there is an issue because the large front wheel messes with the sensors.

    John, as for your comment on needing a lot of upper body strength to turn the Tri Glide it is much easier to simultaneously push with one hand while pulling with the other. Check out " Wanda's Incredible Ride" she's nearly 70 years old and handles her Tri Glide like a boss. I am confident on good days I can out arm wrestle her 30 to 40% of the time. Also, about cornering too fast...there is a little black box under the seat. That is the IMU (Inertia Measurement Unit) I prefer to call it the Inertia MANAGEMENT Unit. In the event that a rear wheel loses road contact due to high speed cornering the IMU reduces velocity to the contact wheel either by throttling down or lightly braking to ensure prevention of a roll over. Stay safe my friend. Bill Keys

      John,the more they sell the more you have a chance of working in them.I know if I ever get things going the right way I'll get a bike from your dealership so I can listen to Alan Jackson on my trip to Indiana with a layover in the smilies where tail of the Dragon has nothing on the roads I remember 20 yr ago(which may have changed now, 127 is relatively straight now on Ky/Tn border.Let's hope they didn't butcher 154 also.I got side tracked but this does come back as a "comission" for you although not in the traditional sense.

      Yeah, it's an electric starter motor. Be careful, it burns out easily ... usually RIGHT after the warranty expires. I've been there.

    The official HD manual states to start the motorcycle in neutral. Do you know something we don't?

    • @TheHarleyTech
      @TheHarleyTech  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Neutral should be used to make it easier on the starter motor, but sometimes you need to start in gear (think stalling). Nice to know how to do it! Since it’s different on trikes it throws folks sometimes.

    You show us your blank work list for the day meanwhile I had a 9 am appt at Orlando H-D Monday for a bracket repair under the fairing and a new rear tire and this monring they told me they may get to it today. I personally would expect you guys to be busy. You mention people getting trikes because they are less strong but it takes a lot to turn the trikes. I see your point I personally feel it is more a matter of being able to hold the bikes up. I know that while I am a phycially strong man, my back and knee issues may see me on a trike one day.

      I think this whole "trikes create a major upper body workout" thing may be a bit over-stated. I was on a Can-Am for two long hot days in the summer and I didn't think they overtaxed my upper body muscles. I don't recall any arm or back soreness. And no - I do not lift weights.

    • @TheHrolfr
      @TheHrolfr 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BegoneJonah Not a real workout but in tighter higher speed corners it takes a little force. Can't compare to the Can Ams they have power assisted stearing, one of the folks I ride with has a CAN AM and she can turn with her fingertips, no so much on my trike.
