Listen, I am no vampire, but getting a blood transfusion *did* make me feel better so they may be onto something.
if I don’t get a blood component infusion bimonthly I can’t even function
@@angelicamarek9245 shit really is magical. The fact they can take someone else's blood and put it into someone else's body to sustain them is crazy. I love science.
@@caitwonYou know what makes it even weirder? The fact you can't do that with all blood. For example, I'm not allowed to donate blood. I have severe allergies and apparently experiencing anaphylaxis floods your blood with antibodies that make it poisonous for some people. Someone could literally die from getting a blood transfusion from me. Which is just wild to think about
i feel like a lot of medically complex/chronically ill people check off a lot on the vampire list lol. im cold to the touch, sort of translucent skin, going between in and outdoors can really exhaust me, and sunlight (the heat from it, but still) makes me more symptomatic. 😭 low iron too but thats a given
The blood is the vehicle for breath, and breath is life...
My silly little headcanon that i dont actually believe is that all these people who claim that they're real vampires are actually real vampires but just energy vampires who thrive on making people cringe.
Hehehe nice
Yeah I'll go ahead and integrate that into my belief system
its working...
well, yes😂
I have met some pretty strange people and this is by far the least strange subculture I've ever seen, but the idea that they feed off cringe energy is too damn funny and I also will now incorporate that into my belief system.

I remember my "vampire phase" as a teen in the late 90s; it's a lot of fun
The concept of "real vampires" is hilarious to me... we always joked about my dad of being a vampire - he was pale and oddly youthful for his age, worked at night, hated the sun , hated garlic - he once was in a motorcycle accident and the hospital staff refused to believe he was injured that day because he healed far too quickly.
Humans are so fascinating
The late 90s was just a really good time for vampires.
I remember the Vampire Teen Killer's of the 90s. But yeah I was a Vamp/ Lycan also. Ah, the good old days...😂

I met a kid who claimed to be a vampire when I was volunteering at a youth shelter some years ago. He claimed he was actually much too old to be there (it served 18-25) and made some comments about how ignorant people are, they didn't know what's really going on, etc etc. I tried to be really gentle with him, honest that I didn't believe him because playing along felt condescending, but acknowledging that I don't know everything and could be wrong, to give him space to keep it up if he wanted and not make an argument out of it. He was like 19 and experiencing homelessness, if this got him through the day then I'm not gonna tell him to stop. I imagine that he DID feel like people were ignorant about what he was going through. My first thought when I hear about other "real vampires" is that I hope this is helpful to them in whatever's going on in their lives.
This is so kind and considerate of you 💖😢
You are so considerate. I kinda made myself believe i was a vampire back when i was in a similar situation at 18 yo. My grown up self understands now that it was a defense mechanism. I was using that fantasy to harness the power of going through, to believe that whatever happened, i would prevail, because i was immortal, strong, and that i could do anything. And in some extent, I did have superpowers, because belief is powerful.
A lot of traumatized people, who are more likely to be homelessness develop DID or a less severe subtype, some people with DID have Vampire alters! So it was likely real feeling for him while also being a way of coping as you said
It's so confusing to see "DID" fully capitalised in a vaguely psychological-esque context and not have it stand for Dissociative Identity Disorder lol
@@Idkpleasejustletmechangeitit does stand for that in that comment, both times
I feel like every queer or neurodivergent high school friend group knew one kid who solely identified as their White Wolf Vampire OC for over a year.
As queer neurodivergent person who loves vampires, yeahh I did do one thing that makes me hella cringe. I did a 1 day vampire hypnosis when I was 13 and tried biting my friends (there is more details but ehhh). Idk why they are still my friends but I’m grateful. When I tried a second time, I had cranberry juice (red juice to quench the vampire thirst) with me which turns out I might have a slight reaction too so I got sent home from school with a sore throat lmao.

I've been hovering around the real vampire community for about 11 years now. I have schizoaffective disorder and it has come with a recurrent delusion that I'm a vampire, and that all the symptoms I experience (constant fatigue, depression, difficulty sleeping at night, cravings and binge eating, etc) are all due to me not drinking blood and would be fixed if I did. As a teenager I used to drink raw animal blood (which I purchased, I didn't kill anything) - this was really dangerous for my health but I didn't even consider that as a factor, I was too deep in the delusion. Around that time I first ran into sanguinarian forums and websites and felt some affinity or attachment to the community, though I never really joined it myself.
The delusion persists intermittently today and I still am very interested in what sanguinarians are doing, but today I have enough of a grip on it that I'm not actually drinking blood anymore, though admittedly it's difficult to hold off on doing it.
That’s really interesting. Thank you for sharing
what about drinking cooked animal blood, like hot cocoa? Feel like that would be an option inbetween
@@sprotte6665 I've definitely thought about it (a lot...), but I think ultimately it's unwise to start making compromises with a delusion. Working against delusional thinking keeps me anchored to reality; I reckon the more I make concessions to delusions to appease them, the more hold I give them on me, if that makes sense.
@@neurotyper makes total sense!! thank you for sharing your perspective!
hi ur awesome and im happy for you
This summer i went to see a nearby castle with a friend. On our way there my friend spotted a Guy who at first glance looked like a regular metalhead with big sunglasses. She really wanted to get his number. My friend was shy about talking to him so we just stayed near him as i built up her courage. Eventually we started talking because he helped a few people at the train station figure out how to get where they need to be. Turns out he needed to leave at the exact trainstation we needed to go. Me and my friend started to notice more and more details about Him. He wore big ass rings and wore fancy gothic like clothing. We joked about him being a vampire. As we got on the train i noticed His fingernails were clawlike and whispered to my friend "He really IS a vampire". He turned around and smiled as if he heard what i said wich is so weird because it was loud af and i talkes to quietly he couldnt have heard me. On the train things got WILD. I noticed he had sharp vampire teeth. At one point he took off His shades and BAM white contact lenses. This guy was walking around full vampire mode. My friend at that point developped the biggest crush in history.
She got his number as we got off the train and he gave us a ride to the castle we wanted to visit.
This was such a wild and funny experience
these are the memories you will be telling their kiddos😂

I am SO here for an Elizabeth Bathory video. I always heard it told that she might be history's most prolific serial killer (and the vampire stuff was added afterwards, as you said) BUT a while ago I listened to a podcast that laid all the evidence out and suggested that she was set up because she was so wealthy and the king owed her a LOT of money. When she was convicted he got to claim her estate. Anyway that theory blew my mind but I haven't heard anyone else mention it since then. I can't recall what podcast it was on, but I remember their argument being quite convincing at the time
I also heard about this theory and I am glad other people know about it too! I heard it on a German podcast called "Früher war mehr Verbrechen" which is really good if you speak German haha but yeah they also explained this theory in detail and I believe the people who also would have benefitted from framing Elizabeth (Erzsébet Bàthory) were her own son and her sons in law... crazy story all around!
Our Fake History with Sebastian Major?
There is a huge debate about that theory since there's not enough evidence to prove or disprove it by modern standards
I remember reading about it years ago on the Forgotten Princesses site. Hopefully it's still up 💖

The thing about people joining the vampire community and THEN dressing goth makes sense. I began identifying as a practicing witch... and THEN started having fun with the associated aesthetic and themes. I definitely did not become a witch because I was goth. I'm more of a rainbows and unicorns person, generally. The only difference is that now I have Lisa-Frank-style Baphomet t-shirts and a collection of potion bottles.
I'm the one who's personating a vampire online on my blog, but it's solely because of the theme of my interests and for funsies. I'm an artist and part of the goth community in my town for years now, the persona helps me escape a little bit from real life struggles like queer discrimination and the housing crisis. I dress up for goth and steampunk cons, do diy workshops, participate in gothic lit book clubs. By lore I'm 525 years old and live in a giant haunted castle, never worry about the money and have eccentric hobbies like hosting over the top balls. I never had a tiktok, insta account before and this will stay that way forever :)

I don't think I've ever heard of people thinking Vlad Tepes drank blood or anything, just that he inspired Brahm Stoker to write Dracula, and that's why he became a vampire in popular conciousness? That's also wrong and made up after the fact
In Ro, i think Vlad Tepes” association with Dracula started after the 1992 Dracula movie, which was partially filmed in Ro. Also, this association gained traction cuz it brings foreign tourists in Ro - capitalism is the true vampire in this story.
PS: Plz, internet, leave poor Vlad rest in peace.
@@alexandrad3158 Nope. Vlad Tepes association started quite a bit before that. People learned of the dread impaler count's connection to the Dracula name easily back in the 1930's. And, they've been making movies based on Stoker's book since the 1920's.
@@alexandrad3158 I'm pretty sure it existed before that. The Vampire: the Masquerade source book "Who's Who Among Vampires: Children of the Inquisition", released the same month as the Coppola film (meaning it was in production before that) and early V:tM was entirely based on every single pop culture idea of vampires existing at the same time.
exactly
@@alexandrad3158naaaah he committed mass murder on his own people he don’t get to have peace lol
I would put money down that the uber driver encountered a Vampire the Masquerade larp. I was in one in MN for a while, and they started in a rented space in an escape room, but as they got new members and needed more space, moved to a church. Churches are common place to host larps, as they usually have reasonable rental rates, many rooms made to host a variety of activities and lots of people, and the less evangelical ones don't care too much what you do or how late you stay as long as it's not illegal and you respect the space.
That taxi driver was having the vampire equivalent of gay panic
"Those fangers are getting bold!😤"
Love this video so much! One small note though: There was actually at least one instance of vampire houses, orders, and court society existing in vampire literature before Father Sebastian. In 1874, French author Paul Féval père wrote Vampire City (La Ville Vampire) which was RPF about gothic literature author Ann Radcliff forming of a team of vampire hunters to save her best friend who had been kidnapped. The antagonist is a vampire who wants to force her friend's fiance to marry him so he can claim her dowry and improve his standing in vampire society since he's lowly compared to the powerful, high ranking vampiric aristocracy who rule over the vampire city Sepulchre.
@@TheCommonplaceBook Yo that sounds rad as fuck?! Adding to my reading list immediately!
@@Arcane_Archer It's so much fun! It has a bit of an anticlimactic ending, but is still one of my favorite vampire novels and had me on the edge of my seat for most of the book.

My favorite real life historical Vampire is the Immortal Count of Saint Germaine. You could do a whole series on him, he's probably one of the most fascinating people in history and encountered around the world to this very day. He's been often seen in New Orleans where a lot of Vampires congregate.
A friend sent me this video and I finally got around to watching it. I was in the New York vampire scene since I was about 16; I left shortly after the founder passed away last year. While not part of any community…I’m of the sanguinary variant, and I have actual revealable fangs (not artificial).
This reminds me of the trend on TikTok in 2021/22 where people would pretend to be fairies and post videos of their feet floating around and people would make vids about “fairy hunting” and such. It was honestly pretty cool and I wish people were more creative on TikTok now

i find this actually quite interesting, and I do commend you for taking it seriously and referring to the people as vampires consistently!
similarly to most Modern Vampires, I've recently 'become a wizard' for spiritual reasons. not that i actually believe I'm like, Gandalf, but I get a lot of like. Stability, identity, and sanctity from considering myself a wizard and trying to do what I think wizards would do. I feel like it helps my mental well being, even if it's a bit silly. Sometimes you have to commit to a bit in order to save your own life.
I get that, I sometimes do something like this: I think "I am a witch", but not like "magic, crystals", but the unshakeable confidence and fearlessness of the Discworld's witches.
im a changeling for similar reasons! as an autistic person, trying to handle life by imagining how a faerie would emulate a human helps moe than one might expect. plus it helps me chill out on the magical thinking (yay ocd)
I knew a girl in middle school who was dating a vampire. But I'll always remember her primarily as the person who introduced me to Panic At the Disco, Tamora Pierce, and manga.
As a witch, who believes in chakras and energy working, the idea of an energy shortage makes sense to me. I've certainly felt drained in crowds.
I remember seeing a documentary about modern vampires, but I don’t remember much about it. The only thing I can recall is that when they sucked blood, they made sure to disinfect the area to not spread any nasty germs.
.... HiV running rampant eitherway
I don't know if it was the same documentary but I watched one years ago and remember a guy visiting kosher butchers to buy animal blood.

We need more people willing to get really into character. I love experimenting with story telling mediums. The muppet joker is legitimately so impressive for this reason, and damn do I respect the people who just casually have a bit they will not let die
I'm surprised by how young most of the "vampires" are. I would imagine younger people would be less concerned with immortality.
I think that there may be many older vampires, but that they keep to themselves- especially online. For all we know, there’s a coven of tech-illiterate boomer vampires out there who just don’t post about it online.
The "real vampyres" I've met IRL are mostly aging Gen Xers who got into it when they were young teens/20somethings... but now are struggling with greying hair and arthritis like everyone else born in the same years they were.
I spent 2 years in the "Real Vampyre" community, it's fascinating
They really run the gamut from "generic pagan goth aunties" to "high priestess of the undying dark" to "people who are just there for the vibes" to "I believe I have a medical disorder that requires me to consume blood" but the bulk are pretty casual about it. Like you'll make a friend at the goth club and months later after a few drinks it comes out that they used to be an elder of a vampire house but kinda fell off that whole thing and are too tired for that nowadays
If you live in a large city, or even a small-medium size one, I guarantee that you have some sort of local "real vampyre" court nearby.
I ended up writing an actual LARP that parodies the "Real Vampyres" called "This Is Not A Vampire LARP" that definitely pokes fun at the goofiness of this all, but also gets into the fascinating philosophical/metaphysical infighting between different vampire types. And yeah, the VtM game/LARP inspired a lot of how the modern "VC" works. Sebastian used to run a LARP, and labeled it as such. But he realized that making a brand based around "real vampyrism" was a niche he could monetize before other people moved on that, versus being just another dude running a vampire LARP.
But if you want to talk, lmk! I was on the vampyre council of my city. This was all really well researched and matches what I saw/read!
maaan... that's fascinating😂 even if it's only to spice life up
thank you so much for talking about people doing out of the norm things in a nicer and respectful way than any youtuber i've seen
28:26 I know I ALWAYS take a ride-share when I go to my brood meetings. I think the court gets a discount, maybe a union thing.
as someone that has dipped in and out of practicing vampirism and i was kinda spooked by this video, expecting some teasing but no!!! this is the most perfect video to explain myself
I call myself a vampire because my ginger hair makes my skin really thin and suseptible to burn easily in the sun (was outside for ten minutes in Florida and came in red), my low iron anemia makes me crave red meat, and my eccentric sense of history and style makes me weird to most people. This video just make me think of another reason though: I'm a quiet extrovert. I want to be around people so bad to just bask in the energy but I don't necessarily want to interact
*Eccentric.
@DrachenGothik666 thank you 😭
I call myself vampire because I can camuflage in a white sheet of paper. (No joke)
@cloudsofsunset7323 omg that happened with me too!
Modern self-identified vampire here! :) me & my wife are both “real vampires” (we relate to the concept of vampires being disabled in some way, as both of us are disabled, and using energy from others in whatever form to survive) i really liked this video, thank you for really doing your research & being respectful to us even tho you might not fully understand!
I’m what’s known as a born vampire of the sanguinary variant. Aka the kind with natural retractable/revealable fangs, abnormal eyes, and a hypothermic body temperature (and no I am not joking) I awakened at 14 almost 15 years old. Fang length shows at 1/4 inch lower when revealing them; eyes turn yellow, dilate on command, and exhibit a golden tapetum lucidum in dark flash photography; body temperature ranges between 93.1-96.4F typically. Way more characteristics than this but these are some describing my appearance. Sun/heat is irritating and deprivation symptoms are a pain and can be debilitating…outside of that I just try to live a normal life as possible among my friends, all of whom are not like me. (I’m descended from high level freemasonry, though not a Mason myself)
make all the videos u want about vampires, Kaz, i'll watch every single one of them lmaoo
"So you drink blood?"
"correct" and he says it with such a smile lmfaoooo
As a therianthrope/otherkind, I will always stand with the real vampire community. Weres and vamps gotta stick together. It's fascinating that both our communities can be traced back to the 60s - them with the Count Dracula Fan Club and the Vampire Research Center, us with the Elf Queen's Daughters and the Silver Elves.
as a fellow member of the otherkin community, i'm with you! i was looking around to see whether anyone had commented about the real vampire community being part of the kin/therian community yet, so you beat me to it!
@@headaaches Yeah!! Though the vampire community is less a part of the otherkind community and more like a cousin or friend. Our communities have some overlap (I've met several people who were both vampires and otherkind/therians!) but are largely separate ^^
there's definitely a lot of overlap between our communities, i love both sides of it
@@PoppyHapalopusI wish I could say that was my experience. I was confronted by a group of werewolves online that claimed to be real deal and not entirely human; when I hinted to them at what I was, they became very hostile and inquisitive towards me to the point where I had to play dumb. Then they calmed down afterwards. The alpha had a deep growling quality to his voice. I’ve been deemed as a “born vampire” by a brood, but I’m part of no community. (And I DO have actual revealable fangs (they sit 1/4inch lower when showing as opposed to hiding) and eyes that turn yellow and a hypothermic body temperature. No contacts or prosthetics needed.) For me, myoglobin keeps various negative physical symptoms at bay.
In high school, a girl in my class did her senior thesis on vampires and reached out to the Vampire Society of Atlanta's founder. Unfortunately he didn't email back in time for her paper, but she read us the email after the fact, and while the founder no longer runs the Society, it was so cool to hear about.
I love your vampire blood necklace! I got mine while I worked at Spirit, you should definitely save it. We discontinued selling them so they are super hard to find now
Honestly these videos only show me that living in the 1800s must have been amazing as a casual newspaper reader. "He killed how many in prison?!", "There is a wizard on the loose?!", "The Moon is inhabited?!" must be wild.
Thank you for making a positive video and not making fun of the community.
Vampire the Masquerade is how I met my husband! I wanted to play, and he owned a game store. We'll be celebrating 15 years of marriage this year. We joke that he was so excited to finally sell all his Vampire clan books, just to have them end up in his house after all.
this is so cute!!!
BEST WAY TO START NOSFERATU DECEMBER!
"If you know where to look"
*Shows a huge building built like a vampire castle*
Flamboyant as he may be, Jack Townson is admittedly a very gifted poet.
A very close friend of mine is actually a cast member on Jack Townson’s upcoming indie film
I don’t know Jack personally but what I’ve been reported back in from my friend and the light virtual interactions I’ve had with both Jack and Shayne is they are both lovely and creative creatures
Yes, but Jack is not an actual vampire in the traditional sense. If someone needs fake fangs they’re not one. Plain and simple. (I speak from firsthand experience)
25:40 the way she says "um yeah um" after that unhinged statement
I knew a guy when I was a teenager (in the 90s) who identified as a vampire. He had fangs and everything. He was a goth who used to make his own clothes - sewing lace onto his cuffs and the like. He told me his mum was like a goth before Goths existed and used to put him in black nappies when he was a baby. He featured in Just Seventeen (a twee British magazine for teenage girls) under the headline "I am a teenage vampire" but he didn't get paid much. I have a copy somewhere. He said he ate raw steak but if I were to stay over, I could have cornflakes (as I was vegetarian). He took his coffee black with six sugars that he didn't stir and let form a sweet sludge at the bottom of the cup. He was beautiful, but then I started seeing him around town without makeup and wearing a suit (black, but still) for whatever job he'd had to take after college.
Were his fangs artificial…or legitimate, as mine are? (Mine hide behind my canines and lower 1/4inch when I show them, and yes they’re real. My eyes also turn yellow, and I run a hypothermic body temperature. No I am not joking.)
Also speaking from firsthand experience here, going around advertising oneself as a vampire isn’t exactly wise. The point is to hide in plain sight. It keeps unwanted attention, discrimination, and death threats down to a minimum. Bloody steak is a good option though. I’ll admit that’s my go to.
@PureIncarnate1 From what I recall, the fangs slipped over his own canines like a sheath, but they looked real. They were quality, not like joke-shop fangs. If I'm remembering correctly (it was a long time ago), he might have been talking about getting his teeth filed or getting some glued on - some kind of more permanent fixture, anyway. I'm sure he actually featured in two magazines in the time that I knew him.
@ I see. So he used prosthetics. That pretty typical for lifestyle vampires. One individual that I speak with actually filed his fangs down so he could look more “human/normal” like mine his were also real. Mine hide well enough so I just leave them alone, only showing them to chosen individuals. I’m more liberal about it online than in person. It’s about a 1/4inch difference.
Did anyone else think that Jack Townsend would make a great host for horror shows??
Oh my god it took me a second to remember who Fathet Sebastian was. Apparently there was drama between him and Logan South (former king of the Austin vampire court before he left the community).
There is always drama where Father Sebastiaan is concerned
@@faithlessfate Truuuuuuue. Oh god the allegations *monkey puppet side eye meme*
@@faithlessfate i met the guy, got to sit in on some lengthy conversations between him and the organizers of my community, back when i was very new in the community. without going into any of the allegations, he's definitely extremely self-centered, self-aggrandizing, and manipulative...
@ i have known the man for more than 20 years. He made my first fangs, before the sanguinarium. You dont know the half lmao hes a hot mess

Looks like he was

DON with your questions
.... YEEEEAAAAAH!
😂😂😂😂
Sometimes I think the prevalence in America for the vampire panick, might boil down to poor Healthcare and an anemia epidemic
Also tuberculosis!
@Rose01bloom I'm referring to the modern day phenomenon, sorry that wasn't clearer
@snusmumricken ahhh okay, and no worries!
i've been writing my epq (extended qualification project) on the endurance of the vampire genre throughout time and one of the first places i looked was your account! i really enjoyed your other video on fears that built dracula, your videos are so well researched and formatted. so naturally i was thoroughly excited when i saw this posted yesterday
ooh good luck!! :D
@@lemurkatta thanks !!
6:16 energy feeding is consentual, so yes, it is more ethical lol. It really is a condition, and its not very fun but oh well, we cope lol. My partner and I are both in the community, its both about the condition and a spiritual side to it.
I'm always nervous to watch this kind of video since a lot of people get the community completely wrong and paint us as annoying larpers or somehow mentally ill, but this was really well made and respectful! Good job!! ^.^
