I’ve lived in Charlotte my entire life. We actually do get tornadoes and a good bit at that. NC averages about 30 a year give or take. I’ve been chasing a few years now and travel all Over chasing in the spring. I have only personally seen 1 tornado in NC and funny enough it passed about 1/2 mile from my house. February 2020 Matthews NC tornado. Matthews is about 11 miles outside of downtown Charlotte. There was a few tornadoes in the area that day and I was busy so I didn’t except to chase. All the sudden I’m watching a cell that’s tornado warned coming straight toward me and I said screw it im dropping everything because it’s not often ones coming to your home town. It ended up dropping an EF-1 that tracked about 17 miles if I remember. It was rain wrapped and not fully condensed when I caught a glimpse of it. Far eastern NC actually has a “mini tornado alley” called Carolina alley. Sorry for such a long response But I have noticed a lot of people don’t think we get them here and I just want to make sure people know they do happen here and more often then you think. The Wilmington area had an EF-3 earlier this year that went unwarned in the middle of the night and killed 4 people. EF-3 is a violent tornado so very serious ones can and do happen here. south eastern SC had an EF-4 a year or so ago that killed a handful. People die in NC every year from them. The chances of that happening to any one person are so tiny but it’s still good to be aware that it can and does happen here.
I work at the western end of the valley, and luckily everyone in my store had cleared out before the tornados started. My parents live just a few minutes from Chesterfield Mall and they were giving me constant updates of the sirens going off. Truly a scary night.
This happened on my birthday we were 10 minutes away from the bridge when it hit. We were driving down to St. Louis to celebrate and then the next day was my college graduation in St. Charles. We drove in the storm for the whole 2 hour trip it was terrifying having alerts pop up on our phones the whole time saying to get to shelter immediately as there were rotations spotted near us. It was pitch black and for all we knew there could’ve been a tornado in front of or next to us at any given time! It was the most stressful two hours of my life. There was a semi in front of us and the only thing we could see were his lights and luckily for us he was going to the same area so we were able to follow him the whole time. If he hadn’t been there we wouldn’t have been able to drive at all. I was in the car with my boyfriend and my brother and his girlfriend. After we made it to chesterfield safely we were talking about how if we hadn’t stopped at the gas station really quick for coffee on our way out of town we would’ve been on the bridge right when the tornado hit. So scary to think about! I have video from when we crossed the bridge and it a complete mess.
I'm checking on my family back there, who live just a couple miles south of 64/40 and 141 that you showed. It looks like one of the nastier storms St. Louis has had to deal with, although thankfully not as bad as the 2006 derechos we went through when we lived there.
I've never even seen a tornado in real life, but a nocturnal rain wrapped tornado is 100% my biggest fear. And I live in West Virginia where these things are pretty rare. Maybe FJ1 every few years.
I live pretty close to here, right across the bridge and I didn’t even know there was a tornado so close. It’s weird seeing the mall that I go by every day in a threatening situation.
I live in St. Louis Missouri. While all of this was happening, I was actually in Kansas city for a family event. Can't believe a tornado touched my city!!!
I think I remember that night. I live in Missouri and we were going to a ice skating show and on the way I saw a big funnel cloud and that’s probably the one I saw.
I was onboard a tow boat on the Mississippi River right by Caruthersville, MO on the evening of the 10th when we got a tornado emergency warning and pulled over. Minutes later that big tornado crossed right over our boat and I got a bit of footage of it. The good footage is from between 1:30 and 2:30 th-cam.com/video/PVCKOHrlpJY/w-d-xo.html
Know what makes it proper scary hitting at night eh but day time at least we can see them coming. Mother nature folks it can't be stopped eh up to 100 people maybe more may have been killed. Very sad
Terrifying! So glad the one filming is ok! I’ve been through tornadoes in that area in past years. Living in NC now. God bless you all!

… glad the people who were close to the tornado weren’t injured

yeah it was crazy
I was at the Boone Bridge right after it crossed. The winds were wicked and lifted my car off the ground a little.

Wait is Kirkwood included?
Amazing footage of this evil tornado, thanks for this Dan.
Have to ask, Dan: Do you now drive a V6?
Greetings from Peoria, was following this on radar last night.

Brave man, woah, brave man. I wouldn't want to be there at night. Thank you for sharing your work with us 💖 🙂
These rain wrapped tornadoes at night are so dangerous and are a good reason to listen to warnings from the NWS
Thanks for the video Dan.

Here in O'Fallon we were worried about the defiance tornado heading towards highway K

That's what the tornado that passed about half a mile from my home sounded like. The waterfall.
There was a tornado nearthat area about two months ago in October
Man, this is some "godzilla incoming" vibes there
Pretty sure this is the same sell that hit the amazon warehouse
impressive!
Great video 👍
