  • Pam Kofstad and her family who were living with ALS in Vernonia, Oregon at the time of filming. With the support of her family, friends and our chapter of the ALS Association (now ALS Northwest), she lived each day with courage, hope and a whole lot of love. Pam died on October 5, 2016.
Thank you to Always Outdoors, Lyon Films and Outfit Editorial for helping us share her story.

What a horrible diagnosis yet what a huge blessing to have so many people love you. Love is an action and helping someone in need is an action.

My heart goes out to the Kofstad family. We at Pacific will miss her so very much. She always asked me how I was doing in a way that made me feel like she really wanted to know the answer. And no matter how many people were in the office or what chaos there was, she always asked after my children. We had many short but intense conversations and I am grateful to have known her.

Ou daughter Bonnie went to Pacific in Forest Grove. Bonnie's life was deeply enriched in knowing Pam and I know she will miss her very much.

Gosh I began with ALS the same way. But have it now over 2 yrs and still use arms and hands and still talk and eat just fine. I am very obese and doctor tells me to try to gain weight. My weight seems to be slowing it down.

ALS is so similar to neural tube defects in babies, one has to wonder if a folate deficiency isn't perhaps lurking in the shadows.
