Thanks for the tour! Here's your route: drive.google.com/open?id=1eDhIKTlc3UktQPCJ4jm9tVs8MPDnXxhd&usp=sharing Thanks for doing the video in one take. The date of your visit is contemporaneous with Google Map street view - your visit was a few months later than Google.
I used to live in Viethiane in 1985 as a child, I return there 2013. I stay there for 4 months, totally forgot about life in the US. Rent is $250 per month include everything, food is $100/month, cellular $30/ month, transportation $50/month depend on how much you want to get around. Beer laos taste great, the girl us skinny and sexy, life is slow, it is fairly safe so harass of any kind.
wow Vientiane has changed. I remember walking along the river back in 2008, barely anything was paved and loads of nice little beach shacks to eat. The South Korens really tore down everything when they redeveloped the river front
I live in Seattle. My dream is to do business in Laos. It looks poor, but it's changing very fast. I plan to open an export/import in Laos. I want to buy a large farm and export raw materials to North America and Europe. You can make fruit drinks, fruit chips, coffee, etc
Glad I found you channel. Best was to see and experience places is by walking through them! I try to walk at least 10-30 km a day when traveling...Awesome way to learn the area! I also try to ride as many streets and roads as possible. I have just recently completed about 5000km (motorbike riding) on the island of Bali, and have now traveled most major roads and backstreets there....
I was there last July, nice video, tell me please how did you film this, it's so stable, were you walking with your camera on hand ??? what camera did you use, and how did you hold it ?… Thanks for your answer
kees Colijn Wow, you kept this camera so stable for a long time walking, you must have been tired after more than an hour filming, some commenting would have been good though !… Thanks very much for replying In your video, I did not see the street where there is a store selling beautiful precious wood carvings, easily seen by 5 or 6 big one piece wood elephants carvings standing outside of this store on sidewalk, can't miss it, I stayed at the hotel on right side seen at the very beginning of video "Vientiane Garden Hotel", a great place !... such good memories, And on the other side of the Mekong river is Vietnam !….
Hi Colijin . I have a question How can you recorded this Video ? You use a car , or bicycle , or walking as I see the images not shaking , not vibrate , not go up - down ....it is going as flat . Well done . Thanks .
An option we enjoyed a lot was renting a bike which was very inexpensive. I appreciated how the vendor didn't ask for a deposit or any identification. Vientiane is a lovely city. I want to explore the possibility of the new passport for a car in Thailand and possibly drive a bit in Laos. I'm told however that the roads outside Vientiane are extremely bad. Maybe I'll find out on a first hand basis.
I'm very impressed by how still and smooth you were able to hold the camera while moving. It almost seem like you had put it on a stand with wheels. The beginning part in the small lanes, I can still notice the walking space motion but when you reach the park-like open area (30:10) onwards, it's real smooth. Great job.
Laos seems much more developed than Vietnam. This was surprising to me. Many well paved roads and lots of private vehicles, but Vietnam, nearly no private vehicles and few taxis, maybe 90% motorcycle. Very informative stuff. Thanks.
I live in Seattle. My dream is to do business in Laos. I want to export/import fruits to North America and Europe. Laos looks poor, but it's changing very fast. I'm waiting until Covid is over so I can travel there.
One really gets the sense o actuallyf being there of wherever you're filming so one does not need to go I feel. I am not serious and exactly it's the opposite as it makes you want to go all the more. Another well done video even if it does take a couple sittings to view it all it is more than well worth it..
Nice video i love it. Thank you for sharing with us. What type of DSLR hand held are you using. I am interest in get one. Name and model please. Thanks.
When I travel, I love to go to places where is not so touristy. I am going to purchase a guide, although talking to people that has been to Laos before helps more. Thank you for your time Kees!
Many things need to improve. The landscape along the Mekong river looks nice if there are some trees provide shade for people even better. It is so weird that people actually park their cars on the sidewalk.
look carefully, all the cars there are better qualities and looks much nicer then cars in the United States. And all the cars there are all paid for with cash, no financing in Laos. Most of those nice cars and trucks cost between 20 to 40k. I was there and notice they have nicer cars there.
Yes, Laos is dirt poor and less fortunate than other countries. But is changing very fast and the people are sweet. The nature in northern Laos and southern Laos are amazing too.
In a tropical climate like Laos, everyone should wear short pants and sandals. I like flip flops. Bring ice cold water to drink and cool off under a tree shade.
Never rent a motorbike or bicycle in Laos, especially in Vientiane. Failure to understand Laos' traffic laws and making mistakes will threaten to move to police headquarters. Then he asked for money and asked for $ 45. We continue to intimidate that we must go to the police headquarters if not provided. So I finally gave the police the money to leave the police. And another ten minutes later another police officer was arrested and fined $ 40. I think foreigners are just trying to eat rotten meat (illegal funds). Animal resemblance, it was like Haiana. I traveled to many countries, but it was the first time that police took money as they threatened to bargain for foreigners. The money I gave to the police for a few hours in the name of fines is actually about 50% of the average wage in Laos. I think the police in Laos are seriously wrong. This is what I experienced in May 2019.
+J.T. JOHNSON I'M DOING ME Those cars are better quality than cars in the U.S. Cars in the u.s. are made with cheap quality. I have a 2010 Toyota corolla, and I've seen the same type and style of Corolla there and the ones there are better, it's built tougher and more sturdier. Same with the pick up trucks and most everything else. In the u.s only the really expensive cars are good quality., not the average cars.
I am starting to learn it because I want to suprise my Laotian friend. She said that she wants somebody to speak Lao to her. I'll see if I could go with her to Laos when we're older.

There is some warping around the edges that leads me to believe that a stabilization algorithm is at hand here.

I love Vientiane. It's not crowded or busy like other country. It's very peaceful and relaxing for shopping and eat at the restaurants there.

looks clean, modern, and a lot of nice new cars...I thought Laos was dirt poor...

Lao population only 6 million people , Lao hit 0% tax on imported car , So ít's cheap compare to Vietnam & Indonesia

In a tropical climate like Laos, everyone should wear short pants and sandals. I like flip flops. Bring ice cold water to drink and cool off under a tree shade.

i thought laos was way poorer than this
