They really told the mermaids to stop smiling.
Mermaid’s smile and optimism: gone.
Ok did they really needed to make the mermaid sad
This feels like yugioh card censorship
“We can’t let kids women have bellybuttons! That’s too revealing! Next thing you know we’ll be seeing womens ankles” some old guy in charge of censorship
More likely some 40-something woman with problem glasses and pronouns in her bio. Notice how they didn't censor the buff dudes in the casino flexing in nothing but gimp masks and speedos?
Man. I feel bad for mermaid and her varieties. They look sad on the new one. Both mermaid's and lamia's censoring doesn't fit them. But i really like banshee and her varieties' new dress
I'll miss my dopey mermaid faces
but yeah those ones are weird. Like the Monsters all found fishnet coverings lol. I do like warrior and acrobat though
Remember: CERO became a lot more strict with the ratings between the original release and the remake, so if anything you should blame CERO. With that being said some of the CERO designs make them look a bit more... visually consistent? might just be me
Mermaid's a downgrade though. Could've stopped at adding a small top but NOOOOOOO, change her skin and make her frown too why don't ya!?
These are in the Japanese version too so yes it's CERO's fault
don't play appologetics for censorship
@@VolkColopatrion Oi! it's just my stupid opinion here! You can have your own opinion but to me it looks more visually consistent (outside of the mermaids). Don't shoot the messenger here!
@@PipimiOden sorry to come on so strong. As much as I don't change my opinion I'm sorry that I came off way too aggressive.
@@VolkColopatrion Ah, it's alright lol, apologies if i came off as aggressive to you as well. I'm still keeping my opinion about the censored designs looking better here though.
Melodie dropped a lot of stuff in this video.
You know all was fine for me in terms of extra clothes until the mermaids came along.. like seriously? I get it can look weird and thus more risque but those are Mermaids, Siren, women of the sea meant to LURE PEOPLE WITH THEIR VOICE AND CHARM!! The witch enemy type does look better again with the "CERO" fit outfit.
It also doesn't look pleasant for the Naga type enemies, like they really should have reworked the model then instead of doing it like this. That's slightly more disappointing then needed because the other changes are fine for me, as I don't mind the female player characters to have more clothes around their legs and the female shopkeeper does look better with the new dress for me.
As it so happens I heard that the Japanese version was also equally censored as well.
What's truly hilariously pathetic is it was done to keep the cero rating down. (they wanted to try to get it the same rating as the original version which was A which is essentially for everybody)
The problem is they failed, instead securing a B which is essentially like an
E10+. So the entire reason they changed things was for not.
The only one I have the problem with are the mermaids tbh. Although the shopkeeper's dress needs to be slightly edited to make it more connected if it makes sense? It kinda looks weird looking imo but I don't hate it. Otherwise, I like the new designs.
Yeah it looks awkward to me, although it may just be being used to the old design. Although I also think the old design looks awkward, just in a different way.
Agree on the mermaids although I like the shopkeeper's. I feel like the Acrobat coulda been altered too, I don't really like the look of the bikini bottom on top of pants. I think just swapping it out for shorts would have been better.
Edit: Wait, is the metal ring on Warrior's neck... flesh now?
@@stars4809 Oh shorts would have looked 100% better, I agree! And yeah, I guess they changed some colors in the job designs from what I see. I don't think it's meant to be colored like her skin, I think it's supposed to be gold by the looks of things that have a similar color on her design...?
Im just surprised the casio guy henchmen are not cesored
Overall the censorship isn't as bad as I was expecting, although I do think that the mermaids and gorgons look a bit worse as a result since they didn't make the added clothing look very natural on them.
what do you mean not as bad?
I had heard that the game was censored, so naturally I assumed that there was going to be a lot of unnecessary overcorrecting, but overall, outside of a couple enemy designs looking worse it wasn't really anything too notable, imo.
I'd be curious to see whatever other localization changes you could cover, it sounds like while most of it is intact and the same there's a few weird spots. Myself and my brother are not through the full game yet, so it was a couple weird quirks early on
Also, if you have any technical information on why some of the effects look... unusual, and want to cover it, I'd love to see it. The magic circle when casting defensive (and offensive?) magic for example doesn't even have a fade effect. I think the vast majority of them are a combination of the lack of PS2 era motion blur and/or time crunch
In this case, the design changes, apply worldwide (including Japan) so, uh, yeah
@@AWMonopolyMan Little changes in the English localization such as the opening are the same worldwide, so I'm guessing most things are across the board. Sounds like a potentially rushed translation and/or port job :/ I guess Sting or Idea Factory wanted cash
This isn't about the covering up of characters though, I don't really give a shit about it. For the playables I think it's fine, for Chance Boutique it's a little silly but she looks better, and for the monsters it's just goofy and weird. This is more about the broader scope of localization changes. I could've worded this original comment better oops
Yeah these aren't localization changes but publisher ones. Long story short, in Japan CERO ratings have gotten more strict, so the dev wanted to achieve the same rating as the game was originally when it came out (rated A for all) despite that, they still achieved a B rating (12 and up) even though original dokapon kingdom is rated A.
@@dawnydawny123 That makes a lot of sense, it's been happening a lot lately, come to think of it. I had just posted it so it wouldn't have been seen, but overall the character designs, despite being the most obvious, are also the less interesting change to me, lol. I'm curious to see what ended up shifting in localization because it looks like there might've been some changes compared to the original English version in terms of script or VO.
@@dawnydawny123
I think that's what makes this especially egregious is the intended reason they did this was completely for not. So they made changes that are going to anger fans in order to keep a game a certain age rating which it didn't. Absolute brilliance.
MODS PLZ SAVE US!!!!
Decided to look this up cause I wanted to play this soon, and honestly I kinda prefer the new stuff with the exception of the mermaids and the melodie. The inhuman skin colors was much more interesting, and I wish they didn't change that
On one hand, this feels like we're back in 2004 where Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh and One Piece had their guns replaced with 👉, cigarettes with lollipops and rice balls with jelly donuts. Ridiculous.
On the other hand, the changes are so small that I can revert it all in 5 minutes on PC. I'm just glad the remake exists haha. It's a fun game.
Is this a mod or set of replacement files that I can download somewhere? Because I've been waiting for this specific thing for some months.
These are 100% understandable but the mermaids look.. less mermaid. + some of the coverings are just out of place undershirts, at least give us different outfits, it's not like theyre incredibly hard to change
Seriously, as a kid I didn't even noticed it :/
Return to the past now
О времена, о нравы...
Мне только штанишки у рыцаря понравились, а остальное как-то лениво сделано что-ли
Thank you for the information, I'll stay completely clear of this version of the game.
bruh lol
This censorship really sucks
What the snake god why 🐍 ?!?!?!?!?!?💢💢💢💢💢💢
I like the Gorgon change and the character classes change the rest are a downgrade.
Aw man, they have to censor again? 😟😟😟
I don't like the enemy changes, although some or more a dislike and some are more a "why change."
I honestly don't like either shopkeeper design.
The female clothing is such an improvement though.
Censorship is really dumb sometimes
I know, I should be able to express my love of vore without being censored by offended people.
censorhsip is wrong. always and none of the men were censored were they? if we're more concrend over cartoons rather than having fire arms and violence then we have our priorities WRONG.
this is so pointless lol
They made the mermaids sad and gave the lamias eyeliner. *thumbs up*
Some of these look alot better than the originals. The thief and acrobat’s og outfits were just ridiculous. Literally running around in their drawers.
That is the warrior outfit, the thief outfit always had pants. but yeah i agree with the changes for the job outfits.
@@lvlHive The fact that that was supposed to be a WARRIOR makes it even worse. In this case censorship made the product better lol.
@@Bipolaroid90 Eh, tbh personally I can't support the "censorship is good if it looks better" mentality. Even if it looks better, the intention is still censorship, they didn't do it because they thought it would look nicer.
@@StarCrossedCoachChip i didnt say censorship was good though. I just said the censored version looked better, in my opinion.
@@Bipolaroid90 You didn't say it outright, but the comment is still worded to be supporting of it. Making a comment saying "I think these censored versions look better" imo gives the view that you think it's good. I'm exhausted rn though so tbh I think it's not really worth arguing about it, I vote we settle on "it was worded a little bit poorly" and "I kinda overreacted to it" and call it a day instead of getting into a 10 comment long argument
Honestly. Not the worst... though the mermaid is painful geez.
What I find hilarious is this was all done in the service of keeping the game at a low rating (they wanted to keep the A cero rating from the original game which would have basically been the equivalent of an E rating) The problem was Cero had changed so much and gotten much stricter in the nearly two decades or whatever and so they were forced to make numerous changes to try to keep the rating down. Which they failed getting a B which is equivalent to E10+. So everything they did was essentially pointless. Pissing off the fans and probably getting fewer sales then they would have had they just accepted the reality they were in.
I really doubt the lack of booba on the characters really influenced anyone's purchasing decision. And if they did, you really should look at yourself and learn to stop being so damn horny, and I say this as someone who is extremely horny all the time but knows when and where to curb it.
@@Briskeeeen
Well considering the game was already incredibly niche and not at all well known before I don't think this helped anything.
This was like everything surrounding Tokyo Mirage including the switch rerelease.
Even with the whole exclusive thing going for it nobody could get past the fact that the localization was an absolutely a mess and it was riddled with clear censorship and issues like that throughout. Yeah this is different but it is equally as pathetic because literally the only publicity this had was the fact that it was getting even further toned down for the west which always goes over like a hilarious lead balloon.
People used to be a little overly critical about it but in this day and age with everything going on yeah honestly it's not surprising. Like I said though it is just kind of hilarious that even with the changes they still had to change the cero rating in Japan which was the whole reason for the changes in the first place so it's kinda entirely pointless but what do I know.
wasn't the darkling also censored? like... censorship ew.
These new designs are really cute actually. I am a fan.
Lmao this is absurd
Not a fan of the shopkeeper or warrior one.
If I'm being honest, aside from the enemies, all these censors are 10/10 better looking than the OG
Having less skin showing can sometimes be better looking, why not leave some things to the imagination?
I mean, just look at the Smash Bros. Pyra/Mythra censor, honestly better looking, like, have some class.
And honestly the enemy redesigns are whatever, like, not really a hit or a miss
They ruined it and I’m leaving
I've seen people on Twitter getting legitimately mad at the censorship and it's so funny to me. I understand not wanting the models to change but it's not like any dialogue was censored or anything. It really isn't as deep as they're pretending it is 😭
I'm convinced that anyone complaining about this stuff was never gonna buy the game regardless, honestly. More often than not it's just people looking up "censored" to find new things to fear monger about
@@MizunoKetsuban I bought the original when it came out, not buying connect anymore
@@akiradkcn YOU ARE THE EXACT MF I WAS REFERENCING. GET OUT OF HERE 😭😭😭😭😭
@@MizunoKetsuban DEFINITELY. They want something to be mad about so they actively search for it
@@akiradkcn I bought Connect
With an exception of the mermaids.... I actually really prefer the new female player models. They were WAY to revealing and (Personally) made me very uncomfortable seeing them.
The mermaids' and Acrobat's censorship kinda looks intrusive. Kinda glad the Acrobat isn't just running around in her underwear now though.
I say that havent gone far enough! Make them both Clowns!
It never was, but oki
this might be a controversial opinion but I think the censored designs are actually way better (yes including the mermaids)
Nope. Not buying it. Can't. Won't support censorship.
I'm normally against censorship, but most of these designs just look better. The female warrior class looks way better.
I know that not many people will agree with me, but the oversexulization of women in video games is horrible. I whole heartedly welcome these changes to clothe these women in more reasonable clothes. I would have been less apt to buy it if the women were dressed like in the original.
All these people complaining about not buying the game for this reason really concerns me. Like I wonder if in some alternate universe where Dokapon connect came out with a new Princess Penny design with her dressed in just her panties and a bra if people would also be upset at the remaster changing the integrity of the original game or if it would be shrugged off. Or maybe some people would even consider it an upgrade? I don't know.
