The flaw of any card game is that it's competitive gambling at heart. Lands in mtg get all the hate. If he'd 1: read cards 2:think 3:make a plan, he'd win more. Instead of learning from it all he has to say afterwards is that he hates lands lol. So yeah probably the average typical mtg player.
Rarran, you trying your best to learn all the right lines makes these videos extremely enjoyable! It also feels like you're having a lot more fun doing this than simply trying to win when you first started playing. I love seeing this and I hope you hit Mythic soon!!!
Also another answer as to 'why don't they just concede' is often that they're trying to hit requirements for a daily challenge. Sometimes its worth playing a few more cards even if you know you've lost the match.
The clearest lesson Rarran needs to learn is holding actions until the last moment and not just slamming everything in first main phase. Some of the games taught the lesson of looking at the hand/board resources to "carry" advantages and plays into the opponents turn or building mana. Once he gets that, his climb up the ladder will be meteoric. Loving seeing the coaching, even if Zoomer energy continually acts against the control mindset.
OMG the game against doctorYoYo was one of the best mtga content that I’ve seen. The game had everything! Top decks on both sides any one could win and that slow roll on the end was sick. Also CGB is a pretty hilarious side kick/wing man.
OMG CGB saying your on tilt, trust me put your life into my hands I’ll get you out of this against that random monk red Sawyer had me 😂. The chemistry between you and CGB is so good, we need more of this!
Come check out Jigsaw's latest plot: convince an obvious monored aggro player to only play 3 color control decks. Watch as Rarran is forced to make a difficult choice between his wallet and his pride.
the trouble with magic is it requires your full attention at all times which doesn't really work with streaming when ur paying attention to chat and stuff until reading the game becomes automatic.
it would also help if cgb built you better mana bases (replace the gain life lands with surveil lands for example), that would help with you getting mana screwed/flooded
33:09 at this point, the strat should have been going face with the cottage. Sure, you lose one due to get lost, but it is less risky than digging for a cover up. They can't exile it with leyline binding either.
Im by no means a pro but, what makes this game more competitive is its ability to provdide different matches though deck builds but also through the land mechanics. Otherwise it woud just be matchups and cardraw. The lands adds another factor that poor matching can alllow a deck to win even though they are facing their worst enemy. That being said, rarran getts the lucky when he doesn't need it, and the sh!t luck he did need it
I'm curious, does Rarran play best of 3 in Hearthstone? As I watch the video he talked about the one deck he played first being so much better against ones he went up against after, he could've just played a side board. He also hates losing to the nuts draw, which is less tilting in best of 3 because you don't just lose, you can make adjustments between games.
@@xXDRAAKSXx Thanks, that makes things much clearer for me, I know he doesn't want to hear it, but if it is for fun, he would like best of 3 better. It is how magic is supposed to be played
Please for the love of god, SLOW DOWN. You leave so much win equity on the table by not pausing for just 5 seconds every turn and thinking through what you want to do and when. This isn't Hearthstone, this requires more attention and it is so rewarding when you know you won a game because of small edges you carved out during a game. Looking forward for you to get better, it's the best game ever made and eventually you will appreciate the game design of lands. ❤
3:56:09 Can somebody explain it further to me? It seemed Rarran was suggesting to play Helix _earlier_ (on his own turn) but CGB was answering about why not to play _later_ (after opponent draws). So why the heck did that need to be played on upkeep?
It looks like the opponent with the Jace top-decked the second one on that turn. I don't think he was trolling you. I guess he could have played the Jace right away instead of the surveil land first, but maybe it was force of habit.
@@jamaro2006 Thats how it is for poker. In fact there is less RNG im mtg with mulligan rule and being able to create a deck based around consistency cantrips mana fixing etc. Also, people act like there is no downside to wanting to play 2-3 colors. Sometimes mono color has its advantages in mana consistency. Plus a reasonable curve
@@MC-ep8cuyou’re forgetting not all poker games have equal value. If you brick in magic that’s a whole game. Folding in poker gives up a fraction of what a full game might payout.
@@Last_Resort991 but if i brick in magic it's a loss just as equal as a hard-fought win. If i brick in poker I fold almost instantly and lose nothing compared to the same hard-fought win later on. Marvel Snap is a good example of this. The meta decks in that game have more high-roll and don't always need to pop off, they just need to occasionally blindside an opponent and get a ton of cubes at once. Games like magic and Hearthstone where every game is equal favor consistency above all else. I see where Rarran is coming from considering magic has multiple ways to brick, whether it be not drawing lands or not drawing useful cards. In hearthstone mana is guaranteed so there's only one way to really brick in that aspect. To magic's credit, bricking in hearthstone is lethal (from what i can tell) far faster than magic. If your hands shit turn 4 in HS you're toast, but I'm fairly sure you can brick a bit longer in magic before the games basically wrapped for the opponent.
Because if the enemy had the Helix in hand, he would have casted It on rarran's turn and start His turn with full mana, by casting Helix on His enemy's turn before drawing a card, he forces the opponent to waste mana
something to the tune of because hearthstone has no sideboard he doesn’t feel ready yet. I hope he doesn’t become trapped in that mentality like many unfortunately do. I feel sideboarding’s difficulty is overrated
I think he said on stream that he wants to get more games in against different decks to better learn and produce more content. Also I think he said that its slower for ranking up (which is not true).
By the end of the video Rarran is a true mtg player, makes misplays and blames those losses on missing lands. He is one of us now.
It's crazy how the shuffler isn't even treating him that badly and he stays salty even if he's winning. Ranked has done numbers on this guy.
$25 Rarran is checking post-stream comments instead of watching CGB's video.
Oof
Seeing ranran complain about how awful the game is
Followed by shoving more cash into it over and over is the full peak mtg exp 😂😂😂
Honestly just proves he's a Magic player
bro should change his name to Ranran fr

I think rarran gets panicks when the timer starts cuz in hearthstone the rope going is a countdown to just ending the turn. no pauses are built in

Love how much fun you two have. Haven't seen CGB so lucky in a minute.
"Soft like butter" lives in my head now.
The advice of read the card and understand what it does is solid CGB advice.

These two do great bouncing off of each other. I don't like the Rarran salt levels, but that's all part of Bo1 babby!

I guess it just wastes some mana for the opponent because it's after untap? But they have nine lands so... sounds very whatever to have them tap two.
The reason is, Rarran should play it on the upkeep (before draw AND wastes mana), just as he did.
@@JustNotFat Yeah, I didn't get the "waste mana" part at first and I think Rarran's question was about that.
1:41:40 i would cut a lockdown for a land. 25 lands is pretty low for a control deck.
can’t wait to see how he hypes up that there’s only a few days left in the video.
You can mute the emotes in hearthstone "right click the opponnent hero and squelch
you should post decklists
Yeah.. holding removal against convoke is sus. There is good chance to get extra turn by just removing anything early.

@rarran i'll be completely honest with you every time i use CGBs decks i get mana screwed too. No idea why. its so unlucky.
Poor rarran
Has anyone ever explained to him *why* magic has lands? :D
Hating the mtg magic land system is like saying you hate poker because of the variance. RNG is part of what makes a game fun
RNG about if you will be allowed to play the game this time is not fun variance.
