That's why it is advised that a person should not stay alone even with his mother, sister or daughter. Vidvansampi karshati means that even the greatest scholar becomes a victim of lust. Brahma was lustful towards his own daughter, so Maitreya was hesitating to point out this irregularity of his; Nevertheless he mentioned it, because sometimes it does happen and the living example of this is Brahma himself, although he is an adijiva and the most learned in the entire universe. If Brahma can be a victim of lust, what to say about others who are prone to many worldly weaknesses? This extraordinary immorality of Brahma was heard to have happened in a particular kalpa, but it could not have happened in the kalpa in which Brahma heard the four verses of the Srimad Bhagavatam directly from the Lord, because after the Bhagavatam was preached by the Lord to Brahma He was given a boon that he would not be deluded in any Kalpa. This indicates that before listening to the Srimad Bhagavatam, he might have been a victim of such lust, but after hearing the Srimad Bhagavatam from the mouth of the Lord, there was no possibility of such error. Nevertheless, man should pay serious attention to this incident. Man is a social animal and uncontrolled association with women leads to his downfall. Such social freedom of man and woman, especially in the youth, is certainly a great hindrance in the path of spiritual progress. Bhav-bondage is due to sexual bondage only, consequently irregular association of man and woman is definitely a great hindrance in the path of spiritual progress. Maitreya presented this example of Brahma only to draw our attention to this dire danger.

वाचम्-वाक्; दुहितरम्-पुत्री को; तन्वीम्-उसके शरीर से उत्पन्न; स्वयम्भू:-ब्रह्मा; हरतीम्-आकृष्ट करते हुए; मन:- मन; अकामाम्-कामुक हुए बिना; चकमे-इच्छा की; क्षत्त:-हे विदुर; स-काम:-कामुक हुआ; इति-इस प्रकार; न:- हमने; श्रुतम्-सुना है ।
अनुवाद : हे विदुर, हमने सुना है कि ब्रह्मा की वाक् नाम की एक बेटी थी जो उनके शरीर से पैदा हुई थी जिसने उनके मन को काम की ओर आकर्षित किया, हालांकि वह उनसे यौन रूप से जुड़ी नहीं थी।
Translation : O Vidura, we have heard that Brahma had a daughter named Vak who was born from his body who attracted his mind towards sex although she was not sexually attached to him.
तात्पर्य : बलवान् इन्द्रियग्रामो विद्वांसमपि कर्षति। (भागवत ९.१९.१७) कहा गया है कि इन्द्रियाँ इतनी प्रमत्त तथा प्रबल होती हैं कि वे अत्यन्त विवेकवान तथा विद्वान व्यक्ति को भी मोहित कर सकती हैं। इसलिए सलाह दी जाती है कि कोई व्यक्ति अपनी माता, बहिन या पुत्री के भी साथ अकेले में न रहे। विद्वांसमपि कर्षति का अर्थ है कि बड़ा से बड़ा विद्वान भी कामवासना का शिकार बन जाता है। ब्रह्मा अपनी ही पुत्री के प्रति कामासक्त थे, अत: उनके इस अनियमितता को बतलाने में मैत्रेय हिचक रहे थे; फिर भी उन्होंने इसका उल्लेख किया, क्योंकि कभी-कभी ऐसा घटित हो ही जाता है और इसके जीवन्त उदाहरण स्वयं ब्रह्मा हैं, यद्यपि वे आदिजीव हैं और सम्पूर्ण ब्रह्माण्ड में सबसे अधिक विद्वान हैं। यदि ब्रह्या जी कामवासना के शिकार हो सकते हैं, तो अन्यों के विषय में क्या कहा जाय जो अनेकानेक संसारी दुर्बलताओं के प्रति उन्मुख हैं? ब्रह्मा की यह असाधारण अनैतिकता किसी विशेष कल्प में घटित हुई सुनी गई थी, किन्तु यह उस कल्प में नहीं घटित हो सकती थी जिसमें ब्रह्मा ने भगवान् से प्रत्यक्ष रूप से श्रीमद्भागवत के चार श्लोक सुने थे, क्योंकि भागवत का उपदेश देने के बाद भगवान् ने ब्रह्मा को यह वर दिया था कि वे किसी भी कल्प में मोहित नहीं होंगे। इससे यह सूचित होता है कि श्रीमद्भागवत सुनने के पूर्व वे ऐसी कामवासना के शिकार हुए होंगे, किन्तु भगवान् के मुख से श्रीमद्भागवत सुन लेने के बाद ऐसी त्रुटि होने की कोई सम्मावना नहीं थी। फिर भी मनुष्य को इस घटना की ओर गम्भीरता से ध्यान देना चाहिए। मानव एक सामाजिक पशु है और स्त्रियों के साथ अनियंत्रित मेल-जोल से उसका पतन हो जाता है। पुरुष तथा स्त्री की ऐसी सामाजिक स्वतंत्रता, विशेष रूप से युवा वर्ग में, निश्चय ही आध्यात्मिक उन्नति के मार्ग में महान् अवरोध है। भव-बन्धन एकमात्र यौन बन्धन के कारण है, फलत: पुरुष तथा स्त्री की अनियमित संगति अवश्य ही आध्यात्मिक प्रगति के मार्ग में महान् अवरोध है। मैत्रेय ने ब्रह्मा का यह उदाहरण इस भीषण खतरे के प्रति हमारा घ्यान आकृष्ट करने के लिए ही प्रस्तुत किया।
Meaning: Strong sense organs, scholarly attraction. (Bhagvat 9.19.17) It is said that the senses are so mad and strong that they can bewitch even the most intelligent and learned person. That's why it is advised that a person should not stay alone even with his mother, sister or daughter. Vidvansampi karshati means that even the greatest scholar becomes a victim of lust. Brahma was lustful towards his own daughter, so Maitreya was hesitating to point out this irregularity of his; Nevertheless he mentioned it, because sometimes it does happen and the living example of this is Brahma himself, although he is an adijiva and the most learned in the entire universe. If Brahma can be a victim of lust, what to say about others who are prone to many worldly weaknesses? This extraordinary immorality of Brahma was heard to have happened in a particular kalpa, but it could not have happened in the kalpa in which Brahma heard the four verses of the Srimad Bhagavatam directly from the Lord, because after the Bhagavatam was preached by the Lord to Brahma He was given a boon that he would not be deluded in any Kalpa. This indicates that before listening to the Srimad Bhagavatam, he might have been a victim of such lust, but after hearing the Srimad Bhagavatam from the mouth of the Lord, there was no possibility of such error. Nevertheless, man should pay serious attention to this incident. Man is a social animal and uncontrolled association with women leads to his downfall. Such social freedom of man and woman, especially in the youth, is certainly a great hindrance in the path of spiritual progress. Bhav-bondage is due to sexual bondage only, consequently irregular association of man and woman is definitely a great hindrance in the path of spiritual progress. Maitreya presented this example of Brahma only to draw our attention to this dire danger.
