Really nice Condor "Swamp Romper" mod. That handle was definitely big. If I ever got one I would reserve it for big chopping and chomping. Maybe get the Condor Trivitatta Puukko for finer carving. Then maybe a flat grind Gerber for camp kitchen duty. What's wrong with 3-knives?
Haha definitely nothing wrong with carrying 3 knives! I usually have a scandi one for wood, a flat grind for food, and then a small trout knife if I'm out fishing! Thanks for watching!
You did WHAT to your Bushlore? Okay, just kidding. I wouldn’t do that, but you really did a fine job on your mod. I think I agree on all your points except about the the 1075. You’re absolutely correct about it needing more frequent sharpening. But,it’s also a bit tougher. Which, due to my approach to knife work, is a good thing. I beat the devil out of mine (hat tip, Bob Ross). I do less of the scissoring/levering style of cutting. More of the typical push-the-knife or, when caution is required, pushing the work piece against the blade. Absent that scissoring motion, the bit on the end doesn’t affect me. Also, I have chubby fingers. Less stub to worry over. Again, nice job on the mod. I worry about it’s theological implications…I shall pray for your soul….😜
HA! Hat tip to Mr Bob Ross! An yes you are right about the 1075, I dont think I've ever had rust on this knife! And, not to preach, but try the chest lever grip, you'll love it! And its far safer than pushing the knife, good for kids!
Great video! Out of all my blades, I would grab this one in an apocalypse situation. I have beaten on mine so badly the 6 years I own it and never let's me down and i fully trust it. I use the chest leaver grip 90% of the time also but do not have any issues with it, might be because I have huge hands at 6 foot 8. Do you regret your modification? Or still happy with it?
@@6foot8jesuspilledpureblood82 Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad to hear there is another person out there using the chest lever grip, it's hands down the best! And yea, I use this knife all the time and I'm still happy with the mod. Catch ya on the other side of the apocalypse haha, but happy trails 'til then!
Yea the scandi grinds can be a bit tough! Are you using a whetstone? First off, I would recommend using lighter pressure and making more passes, angle consistency is key!
Interesting idea and a well executed job. It looks a lot different than i thought it would. I never use the the chest lever grip so won’t do it to mine, but i’m a firm believer in modifying any knife to suit your particular needs.
Love what you did with the handle. Make it to suit your needs, well done! Looks like a handle shape I would favour any day if the week, too. Long handles with nubs at the end are great on heavy blades for chopping, but not so much on bushcrafty blades. I would have taken it off too :)
Ya know they sale blanks for $28 , you might like the Woodlore better. Or check out their new Trivitatta puukko, i just bought one and its awesome . You would like the handle its pretty short. Im looking at the 1095hc Darklore , its been a long time coming. They also have the Aqualore in 14C28N with a thick micarta grip , looks killer.
@thehardcorenaturalist Cool , yeah it's a great blade . I have a knife channel called "Airiks Knife Life" where reviewed that blade with the Tops Tanimboca Puukko. Both knives are excellent but I favor the Tops with my own true scandi profile.
I like the mod. I have always found the Condor design to be clunky and unrefined. Don't have any more Condors (don't like the softness of their heat treat) or I would consider doing something similar.
You made it the same as the Bison knife! That's an improvement and not just a personal taste. These knives are designed for working wood and the mode you did, just made it a better tool! Thumbs up!!
I've used the chest lever grip and never had your problem. By cutting off the butt like that you reduce your ability to use a power cut without the knife possibly slipping in a normal grip.
Ha that simply isn't true! By power cuts I assume you mean strong downward cuts with a forehand grip, in that case it's the belly of the grip that fits in your fingers that provides the stability, not the butt end. In this case, the butt end of my grip wasn't even in my hand, so it didn't provide any additional stability and was just in the way!
Haha that's because if it ain't broke don't fix it! In this case, the chest lever grip is far superior to a relatively cheap knife, so Id rather ditch the knife than the grip! Give the chest lever grip a try, you'll love it!!
Thanks for bringing back an old friend! The Condor Bushlore was my first 'dedicated' bushcraft knife, when I got back into the outdoors hobby about five years ago. I used the knife extensively for one summer/fall, but then switched to a saw/hatchet/neck knife trio in the following winter, so I could process more wood.... and moved on to other knives after that. Modding gear is fun, my passion goes more towards building knives from blade blanks (Condor Kephart, Brisa Nessmuk, Helle Mandra)
@@thehardcorenaturalist it’s not bad. The wire wrap doesn’t bother me at all, and it came noticeably sharper than the Bushlore. It also seems to hold the edge far longer than the 1075 Bushlore. I do tend to swap the sheaths when I decide to carry the Cavelore.
He's not....not that he won't see it....but either won't care or is unable to do anything about it. Seems to be my experience with Condor for the past decade or so.

Making the knife fit your needs cool. I still hope Joe doesn’t change it. LOL! 😂
Hahah he wont!
Nice job on the mod. It came out really well.
Hey thanks mate, glad you approve!

Nice job man👍🏻 it looks good and it appears to suit you better than before. I love modifications to my knives. It kinda personalizes them

Sorry for the late reply, but I just picked up one of those Trivitattas and its a great little knife! Definitely one of my new favorites

Totally agree! This is my knock around knife!

The Bison Knife! I've never seen these things before, I may just have to try one out, they look nifty! Thanks for the kind words!

I can’t believe you did that to a great design. Instead of learning to use the knife differently. Amazing nobody else was complaining about bruises.

interesting mod - but lets face it, even if you didn't like it - it's $40 to replace :)
$40 maybe in your country, here in the UK the wood version is $85 and the micarta $115.
WOW really? $80? I swear Condor knives keep getting more expensive too!
The Cavelore is just a Bushlore with a better steel.
Do you like your Cavelore? It strikes me as a bit of a janky knife, but it does have great steel
