    - If you take Math 103/104/114 take it w/ Professor Rimmer
    - Use your resources (CAPs, SHS, Weingarten, SDS, the Tutoring Center, and Career Services, etc. etc.)
    - You will learn a lot of acronyms
    - Weingarten is a solid resource; don't dismiss it because your peers might say it's not helpful.
    - As Tyler said, Penn Face is a thing. But Penn is very accepting and supportive w/ things like mental health, anti-violence/sexual assault, and LGBTQIA compared to the outside world.
    - I mentioned CAPs (Counseling and Psychological Services) above, but go if you need it!!!! If your friends say don't bother when they haven't gone themselves, ignore them (and maybe get better friends who care about your wellness. ☕️🐸). This really applies to any college.
    - Don't be afraid to ask for help w/ other stuff when you need it, don't learn the hard way. All the cultural centers that Tyler mentioned have directors and staff that you can go to w/ questions or concerns. I.e., the director of GIC helped me find my work-study job.
    - Go to office hours so the professor can see that you are trying
    - Hill College House has the best brunch compared to other dining halls
    - Have fun, Study Abroad, Explore Philly
    TLDR: Take Rimmer for math, use your resources, don't be afraid to ask for help. Sorry for rambling

    I'll be attending Penn as a doctorate student this summer. I started out as a highschool drop out who went to community college. The whole Ivy League thing is so foreign to me, so I am doing as much research as I can. I appreciate you making this video. It was really nice to watch as a first time "big school" student and also as a minority individual. Good luck with your studies!

    Good job and thanks for being honest. I went to a school across town but I have a relative at UPenn right now. I have also been to parties out there and DJ'd on a bunch of occasions at frat parties and other events including high school welcome and alumni parties. Penn is the city's largest private employer and there are many research private orgs in UCity so he correct when he says the opportunities for research and internships is much higher at Penn than other places.
    Penn's campus is very nice and has a heavy lean towards that traditional old school Ivy look. When out that way I will sometimes walk around campus. Food is a personal choice but I think that the food is good with some nice food trucks and restaurants in the area.
    The things that surprised me about Penn are: 1. the number of people participating in sports. It's not just about studying. You will see tons of runners, tennis, basketball and intramural sports. 2. the partying. Things got wild at a few of the parties that I DJ'd and Penn folks drink a whole lot and get trashed. 3. The traditional look. He did touch on that and it is surprising how much Penn has that throwback look. British universities such as Oxford and Cambridge tend to also have that look.

    Hey all, I'm a writer researching UPenn/the Wharton School for a biopunk novel I'm writing that is partially set there. (The "experiments" are actually in Romania though - UPenn is where my very confused, pharmacologically-altered Pip character finds himself after they've all convinced him that he's lost all his memories, everything he thinks he remembers is a nightmarish hallucination and he was only actually in Romania for a week undergoing treatment for a drug overdose.) Please tell me anything that, if you read it in a story, would show you that the writer did NOT know UPenn.

    Tyler, First of all, I love your videos. Second, I’m a Freshman currently who is shooting to be a Family Physician, I play basketball, and I want to attend UPenn, so naturally, I was drawn to your videos. I messed up big time with my grades. I had 3 B’s in my first semester. I am projected to have a 1480 on my SAT and I am currently volunteering at a Hospital (Not right now because of you know what). Do you think my first semester B’s will hurt my application to UPenn or any Ivy for that matter.

    • @tylermccormick8444
      @tylermccormick8444  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sorry I'm just getting back to you finals were this week and it's been really busy but I really don't think that all schools like Penn are looking for absolute perfection. It seems like they definitely want top students but a few B's during freshman year should disqualify you from being a top student. Personally I had two B's during my freshman or sophomore year I forget but I improved on that and got all A's the rest of my years and I feel like that was in a weird way a plus for me because it showed schools that I struggled and overcame something instead of just floating through high school not facing a challenge.
      Either way I don't think it will hurt your application to Upenn or other Ivy's that much if at all.

    • @tylermccormick8444
      @tylermccormick8444  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi I wasn't in a PCR this year so I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure that if you get accepted to a Program community that housing will overrule whatever you requested initially. Like I know this year people in BFS were housed in Hill and some people applied to BFS to ensure they would live in Hill this year. You might be able to request a room change to another dorm but I'm not exactly sure how that process works when you're involved in a PCR.

    Hi there, I'm a rising HS senior thinking about EDing to Penn. The thing is, I'm pretty shy when meeting new people, but once/if I can find a real genuine group of friends I sorta become extroverted. RIght now I'm extremely nervous that I won't have the confidence to walk up to people and make genuine friends and I'll hate my time at college. I'm wondering how easy was it to make friends during the beginning og school, and how many of those friends actually stuck throughout the year? Also, does social life depend on Greek Life? I don't want to go to a school where I'm seen as a social outcast or my social life is dead because I don't participate in Greek Life. Are parities blocked off to non Greek Life members? Can you explain that a bit? and finally are friend groups and social scenes separated between internal schools? Meaning how does the social life at Wharton translate to the College? Do you have real friends in Wharton?
    Thanks so much

      Hey man. I myself and not an extremely outgoing person but making friends was really easy since most people felt the same anxiety about it. I made a lot of friends by going to a prefreshmen program. I would recommend attending one if you have the time. I also made a lot of friends during new student orientation since there are a bunch of events made for you and your hall to get to know each other along with other students. Most all of my friends stuck throughout the year with some of them becoming closer friends. I met more people who became close friends after the initial few weeks.
      Social life at Penn doesn’t depend on whether you join Greek life. It def doesn’t hurt but it doesn’t make or break anything. Being able to get into parties, mixers, date nights, and formals really depends on who you know. Parties are sometimes open. Mixers, date nights, and formals are usually closed but it depends on who you know in the organization.
      Friends groups typically range across schools. Sometimes people in Wharton, Nursing, and Engineering can be kind of cliquey because they have to take the same classes but that’s even true for some majors in the college so. I have pretty good friends in all 4 schools.

      @@tylermccormick8444 Thanks so much for your thought out reply. I'm leaning towards Wharton for ED (no way in hell I'd get in RD haha). Thanks again!

    so what’s the business major undergrad for penn? economics?

      When you apply to upenn, you apply specifically to Wharton. Wharton is the undergrad/grad business school on campus. For undergrads, you major in economics but specialize in a certain field in your junior and senior year. That could be finance, accounting, marketing, etc. No ivy league school has a pure business major, since they are all liberal arts. Penn is the best ivy if not school in the world for business education. However, they kind of funnel you into two different career tracks and jobs: consultant or the finance sector. Sure, grads go into other aspects of business, but the overriding majority go into those 2. Hope this helps :)

      la dodgers so the “business” major at penn is called “economics”? only at penn and some ivy leagues or all ivy leagues? then what about the csu/uc that have separate business administration major and economics major?

      la dodgers can you see my reply above

      @@TechVHD yeah so pretty much uc and csu schools offer pure business degrees as well as econ. Econ is a lot of trends and graphs and math, while business is accounting, marketing, administration etc. If you go to school for a business degree, you will do some general classes and then the business requirements. Penn and other ivies are considered "liberal arts" schools - meaning that they want their students' education to be well rounded and holistic. They all offer econ degrees because it is a more "well rounded" field - it incorporates math, business, and some history under one degree. Penn and other ivy students wishing to take econ will also take many other courses that dont have to do with their major. Schools like these encourage diversity of thought and mind, so they want students to take courses that make them more well rounded.Anyways, the econ degree you receive from Wharton is very different from other highly selective schools and ivys. You'll take marketing,accounting, and finance, along with pure econ courses. So, for thisreason, Wharton's econ degree gives you a really good business education as well. I hope this answered your question.

      la dodgers so on us ranking it says number one business school as upenn so yeah they have an mba from wharton, but for undergrad, what’s the business major called? economics? is it the same at all ivy leagues? what about stanford?
