As a writer that started as a fanfiction "author", this 30:00 hits so hard. Like, I had my "own thing"/"main project" all along, from when I can't even remember (possibly from like even 8 years old - and now I'm here, much older, lol - won't tell my current age on the internet, ofc), but I always had this toxic mindset of "because I don't have audience, I need to build it, otherwise, my main book won't find its audience", and so I started writing small stories and fanfics, that while I liked, I didn't love per se (and wasn't as connected to them than to my "main series"). I hope that I end my fanfic series, and start my main one, whether people will like it or not, I just wanna do my own thing and get it our there - cuz artificially and slowly making my audience from trend is toxic, and drowning me, so I'll do my own series, publish it, and whether people will or will not like it - I won't care, I'll just leave it there, and be proud of it!
