    Copied your setup on my ‘19 gas ZR2, and love it. This video really helped me work through taking the front off, big thanks. I really wish those LED strips were the DRL and not the low beams, but either way, looks great. Thanks again for the vid.

      Awesome I'm glad I could help! You can change the LED strips to be the DRL, but you have to get a new relay harness, which is pretty expensive: www.gen5diy.com/products/16-17-colorado-disable-headlight-drl-stock-led

    Good video...really made me laugh. Reminded me of ME 50 years back. You have oem lights that work just fine. But spend the TIME and MONEY to replace them with upgraded lights that LOOK better. I spent so much time and money doing mods on late 60's muscle cars....so much of it simply for minor improvements. Nothing like car tinkering.

    Not bad for the housing replacement! I had an '08 Malibu before my Colorado and had to take the whole bumper off like this JUST to change a burned out bulb. Did that twice and it's a lot of fun but takes 2 hours for a bulb change.

    I have the exact same pickup. Minus diesel. 2019 ZR2 she’s blue. I got the exact same headlights as well, I love them, minus pulling the whole front bumper off to put them in, and the dust cover on the passenger side without the screw hole.
    I have noticed however that when I have my low beams on there is a hard step in the lights where it actually changes the light pattern. Have you noticed anything about yours that would cause this? Do your lights have this issue?
    I’ll explain, the low beams have a nice even line of light shining out, a straight flat line if you will. But I noticed that each lights right at the center of the POV had what looks like a step where the light itself literally steps up a few inches(size depends on how far away you are from the object you pointing the headlights at). I didn’t mean honk anything at first, but it is most notable when night driving on the highway, the lane I’m in will have good light a ways out, but there is a noticeable cut off to the area on my left/drivers side. Have you noticed this? I am wondering if I can fix with different bulbs or if I unfortunately got a bad set of headlights.
    Thank you for the video, wish I would

I have the exact same lights and I have the Lasfit led bulbs. The low beams light fit in the high beam spot on the light but not in the low beam spot. The high beam bulb fits in neither. The new lights socket for the low beam is not the insert and twist type. It has a metal wire holding the bulb in. Also, the plug for the low beam is different then the rounded plug necessary to plug and play lights. Any answers you have would be helpful.

    Looking at buying the same set after watching your video. How are they in nighttime driving? Is the brightness better, worse or the same compared to the factory headlights?

    • @matt13ross
      @matt13ross  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It all depends on the bulbs, the low beam aiming is very good. The high beam aiming isn't so much. Get good LED low and high beams and you'll be all set!

    • @kevinlicht2978
      @kevinlicht2978 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I installed Hikari LED bulbs and it's amazing. My only gripe with these is the vibration transfers to the bulbs causing a jitter in the beam, if that makes sense. I had the regular stock (non projector) headlights and these are 1000x better.

    Is the LED strip your DRL now or is it both the low beam and the strip?

    • @matt13ross
      @matt13ross  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s still like factory. The low beam is the DRL and the LED strip comes on with the parking lights or headlights.

    I just installed these exact Aakon lights over the weekend and just notice that the drl strip wasn’t on during daylight. I have my light switch on auto and the low beam lights are on but not the led strip. Is yours the same way? When I turn the switch to always on, then they turn on. I thought these would always run with the low breaks during the daylight.

      There's a wiring harness.... I can't remember who makes it... That will allow the strip to be on as DRL all the time.

  • @kevinvoyer5053

    Ok I’ll play devil advocate and ask one dumb question. Is it really necessary to go all through that just to remove the headlight assembly? Seams to me it you were to systematically loosen most of the fasteners, remove all of them above the lights themselves, that might allow you to pull the grill assembly away far enough to get to the four fasteners that hold the light fixtures in place? If I go to do this, I will try to video the outcome. That will save a lot of time!! These are nothing like the 2003-2006 Silverado/Nakid Avalanche and Tahoe Suburban, with thier 20 sec headlight removal system!

    • @matt13ross
      @matt13ross  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Someone else mentioned this to me. I think it's possible but it may end of being more of a pain and not worth it. I say try it and see what happens. If you are successful, reply on here so I know. I may be building another set of headlights and it would be helpful to not have to remove it all again.
