  • I’m from the UK and for the last couple of years I have dreamed about taking a Caribbean cruise. It usually isn’t a cheap option for me given that a 9 hour flight separates me from the Caribbean but I saw an incredible deal on the MSC Seaview so decided to give it a go.
MSC are definitely a controversial cruise line and in the past I’ve heard bad things said about the food, the service and the entertainment but I wanted to see for myself would it be worth the price I paid?
I paid £580 for the 7 night cruise including flights from London, drinks, transfers and gratuities. Price based on two sharing.

I've seen some bad behavior by passengers on cruises as well. In the dining room, a woman from Wales started yelling and blaming the waiter for the "bad food", no matter how he tried to please her. I spoke to the head waiter and told him to disregard any complaints towards the poor boy. I also left a commendation for him at the end of the cruise.

We often complain when something isn't up to our sometimes too high expectations but we forget to tell people when they do something that is positive. I had to give up being a primary school teacher and foster Mum when I became very ill. I felt like I lost my purpose and I struggled with that. I realised that I could make a small contribution by spreading genuine positivity. One thing I felt strong about was that I could look for a positive in everyone and every situation whether it's online or in person. Your comment about how you stuck up for the waiter gave me more faith in humanity because a lot of people wouldn't have taken the time to do what you did. You are a very caring, kind and inspirational person. I hope that you and your loved ones are doing okay and keeping safe. Xx

The solid chocolate block can be tricky. My dad used to work at Arnott’s biscuits and sometimes he’d bring these huge blocks of chocolate home - they’d take up an entire shelf of the fridge and be like 10cm high. The only way you can get any off is with a hammer and a chisel. As long as your chisel is spotlessly clean/new, it’s fine. I’d highly recommend that or else you can heat a knife blade and do it that way. As a kid though, the drama of a hammer and chisel is magical.

I just returned from a week on the MSC Meraviglia out of Port Canaveral, Florida. The ship itself is very nice. We had a deluxe balcony room for 3 and the drink package was included in our fare. My husband, son, and I all had the same feelings about this cruise. The crew were very attentive. There were 740 guests and 1000 crew for our week. We really enjoyed going to Ocean Cay which is their private island. Spent the day at their Lagoon Beach which was very nice. The ocean behaved like a lake. Anyway, our cabin steward was extremely attentive. However, we experienced a few things that may cause us not to rebook another MSC cruise. First, we ate at the main dining room. We had an 8pm seating because the 6pm was full, which made us miss all the 9pm shows in the theater the entire week. They only had one show there each night. Second, the food was extremely mediocre in the dining room and buffet. In fact, it was flat out really bad. We did not complain about it, just politely said we were full, as an answer to why we didn't eat much. It wasn't the waiter's fault, in fact our waiter was very attentive. Third, the lack of entertainment at night was disappointing. We are used to seeing shows, comedians, and music. We only saw one band that played three shows during the week. They were probably the best entertainment on the ship. No comedian shows, and the music at the bars was okay. Unfortunately/fortunately, we have cruised on many other lines and in our minds, were trying to compare MSC to Carnival, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, and Princess. Although the pricing for the cruise was a bargain, I guess you get what you paid for. We felt quite nickeled and dimed to death on the ship. The specialty restaurants were very expensive, and we were trying to have a nice vacation on a fixed budget. It was very relaxing, as we just hung around the pool deck during the day sipping on drinks each day. I feel perplexed because I have never had a cruise that I didn't want to go on again. This was our first time experiencing MSC, and I guess our anticipated standards were higher and what we ended up with was a lot lower than we expected. But at least we found out by trying them out, and it didn't cost very much. Thanks for reading my comment.

Maybe it's just me, but maybe at a later date you might give MSC a second chance. Though I personally never been on any of their ships. I live in Oklahoma, and the closest port to us would be in Galveston Texas about 8 hours away. I don't think we have any MSC ships there.
But what you mentioned about your experience kinda mirrors my feelings about my first cruise with Carnival. I had two previously with Royal Caribbean and loved both of them. My mom loves them too. But I would like to have another cruise with Carnival to really give it a fair shot with the two I had with Royal Caribbean.
Me and my mom have a cruise booked for Hawaii in 2023 on the Pride of America from Norwegian. Which I already heard it's nothing more than a glorified hotel so the bar is already set kind of low lol 😅. But it's still a brand I've never been on before so I'm still excited for it.

If you want the upscale food and drinks, book the MSC Yacht Club Level. Every thing is exceptional and you are treated like royalty. I am 69 and cruised for decades on Princess, Royal Caribbean, Holland America, and NCL. You will pay for the level, but you will have a private butler who meets you at the pier and takes you to your cabin and basically caters to anything you want for room service food and bedding etc. You will have a YCL lounge with wonderful snack foods, tortes, candy, hors deveurves served throughout the day. Your YCL dining room offers a selection from each specialty restaurants as well as their gourmet quality dinners. There is a YCL pool area as well where there is a small buffet and bar. The price is different, but you do get what you pay for.

I think they didn't offer it because the regulation says that if someone needs to quarantine after testing positive, it must be on a cabin with a balcony. Even at low capacity, they need a lot of the balcony cabins free cause all it takes is one outburst and a lot of people need individual cabins at once, and between crew and passengers it might not be enough.

Great video Emma thanks, it was weird though!!! as I was on the Seaview with exactly the same package 4th-11th Jan 2022 in cabin 11105 visiting the same ports. The Ship only had 900 passengers until it reached St Martin, then the load went up considerably, and as you said not at all crowded. My Cruise cost £694 as a solo traveller including flights and transfers as well. We did miss 2 ports due to covid restrictions. But I must say MSC handled the situation superbly as they credited €200 to spend on board and refunded excursions, they also gave a 30% discount letter for the next Cruise.

    Keep up the good work!
As someone who goes camping or plans every aspect by myself, I would never do a cruise and even avoid staying at hotels when I can.
But this travel style intrigues me from time to time. I can't wrap my head around these floating cities including multiple full theater productions and all its other features. Bombarding port cities with thousands of very short term tourist visitors.
It's not for me, but it boggles my mind this industry is still existing and how it even got here in the first place.

I just finished up 14 days on the Meraviglia. Since I did back to back cruises, I got champagne and a chocolate ship for each voyage. I bring utensils from the buffet to my room, along with a plate to cut up the chocolate ships. A fork works better than a knife, but shrapnel will go everywhere. I brought my second ship home and found it was much easier to cut up because it's milk chocolate instead of the dark chocolate I've always had. I agree MSC is a very good line that is a bit different.

Travelled on the MSC Seashore with my family a month ago for the first time after several NCL cruises. It was running about 80% capacity for those curious, hence why things may vary from what I experienced.
Overall, the reviews were quite mixed.
We opted for an aft suite (Aurea experience as they consider it) quite similar to those pictured at 1:40. Compared to some of the suites we’ve stayed in on NCL cruises, the room itself was ok. The AC was lacking and having to have a cruise card in a key slot to allow power to the room took getting used to, and you had to step over the corner of the sleeper sofa to get to the balcony, but everything else was pretty nice. The room service wasn’t great though unfortunately. Maybe it was just the size of the ship, but we saw the room steward maybe once the entire cruise, compared to at once a day (or more) on NCL. With no concierge like on NCL (for staying in the equivalent type of suite), the minimal interaction with the cruise staff made it feel less special too.
The other major hiccup was with embarkation. It took roughly 3 hours of standing in warm Miami heat and a crowded terminal to even get on the ship, although that could be a port issue rather than something MSC can control (and supposedly MSC is in the process of getting s new terminal in Miami that would be better). On the flip side disembarkation couldn’t have been easier (going through Customs was a breeze too)
Everything else was mediocre or great by our standards.
Food was hit or miss sometimes, but the staff encouraged us to order multiple things or ask if we had any problems with the food, so we left dinner full and satisfied every night. The main buffet was a highlight for the pizza alone, as it made for a great midnight snack and was open for several hours after the rest of the buffet closed down.
Entertainment actually wasn’t half bad either, they had 2 showtimes for most shows, and they had a magician (who I believe was on America’s Got Talent at some point) so I’d put it about even with what I saw on NCL.
The ship itself had plenty of amenities, and it was actually almost too big for our liking, as at the end of the week we still hadn’t explored everything. Plenty of bars, pools, and space to enjoy though. With the bars, I’d suggest springing for the drink package if you can, as it covers most of the drinks offered on board and has no limit, meaning you can quickly make your money’s worth if you feel like drinking.
The staff I will say were overall friendly and helpful, no real positive or negative stories to share except for a little confusion as to where we needed to go during the muster drill, where we were directed into a “crew only” area but then informed we weren’t supposed to be there (oops!).
Comparatively, I’d probably stick to NCL for some of the familiarity, but MSC wasn’t terrible for what it was worth.

Glad to hear it was positive for you. We wanted a cruise that was based in Port Canaveral, and the 7-night Western Caribbean on the MCS Meraviglia was by far the best value for money. We too only had about 25% occupancy. We loved the amazing ship and the kind and helpful staff. We aren't big on theatre shows so we never even checked them out. We'd spend our evenings in the Sky Lounge and enjoyed the Latin Duo--and they certainly appreciated our nightly loyalty. All-in-all, we had zero complaints and a great time. We certainly tipped several staff more than usual not only for their attentiveness but for some encouragement for having come through a lot of down time due to the shutdown. We heard a couple comments (suggesting not bad but not great) about food, but honestly, do we really need to eat like gluttons for seven days? One can hardly go hungry, and there is enough variety to make about any diet work. As low-carb'ers, we managed splendidly.

The Seashore is made for the American market (hence the name), although it will be spending time in Brazil at the end of the year. I would expect the crew to be a bit friendlier just because US standards for service are different than European ones. I can't say first-hand, but a Caribbean cruise on a ship with an English name would probably be a good way to give MSC another shot.

I love the chocolate ship, too. I actually cruised a second time on the Meraviglia, because I specifically wanted the Jean-Philllipe chocolate. I have found a serrated bread knife works best on the chocolate ships. I cut off a tiny bit and then put it away, to keep myself from over-indulging.

i remember my dad went on a cruise a couple of years ago with some friends and they got it cheap because it was during what is called off season. where cruise ships don't have many passengers on board and they have to go from one destination to another.

Wow what a score! I've never considered an MSc cruise till this vlog. Question: how much was your upgrade offer? We embark on our first cruise in 20 years on Monday and I'm already looking to book another lol. Thank you for your time and wonder presentations! 🥰

What do you mean upgrade offer? How much to upgrade? When booking it was like £400 each for a balcony extra, which was almost my full cruise fare so I didn’t. Haha. 😂

@@EmmaCruises Hi Emma, can you let us know what website did you get such a good deal on, or is it a secret?

@@johnfagan3489 Hey John, I didn't book this through a website I used an independent agent. The price was the same directly on the MSC website though. :-)

I was on this ship last September in Italy. I didn't see any good food and especially meat in the entire week. The service- en excursiondesks had waiting lines that took forever and promises were not kept. You could only leave the ship with MSC excursions. I found them pretty expensive, especialy when you have no choice. The entertainment was really bad. And I hated the (lack of) policy around the deck chairs. Apparently, here too, if you put "something" on it, the chair is "yours" all day. Most of the time, there was no chair left free, but it was often the case that only 10% was really in use. The cabin was ok. I promised myself never to go with MSC again, but I must say, it looks much better now...

Very interesting and informative upload, so thank you. I must say, that was great discount, and you've provided some very good tips in relation to value for money ethos.

I love your channel! I’m nineteen, have only been on a Disney cruise, so I definitely never gave cruises much thought. Your channel is really inspiring and I love how passionate you are about cruises! I want to go on a cruise now🤣💞
