When I unboxed mine yesterday those rachmanin plates slid right out from fell on my foot... Hurt like hell and it was a very unpleasant surprise and yet very pleasant to see a the same time
I was a radio DJ for the first 10yrs of my career and I have never had so much issues with a device. I used to have to use patch cords into the phone line to put the church on the radio and that was easier than trying to get this to work on my laptop.
I would like to know if you really published an in-depth video afterwards where it is explained how to select the effects and set the various parameters. I bought this mixer, but I can't figure out how to use this function, thanks!
Well, you kind of glossed over a few important things. The biggest is that the Aux (Red knobs) and FX (Yellow knobs) are not, repeat NOT the same. They are not "2 effects channels". I appreciate the video, as I bought one, but readers may not know the difference between the signal TO these 2 outputs are not the same. If you look closely, you will see that the Aux are labelled "PRE" and FX are "POST". Simply put: "Pre" means that the signal going to that 'bus' is BEFORE the faders. Adjusting the faders has zero effect on the signal strength/level. "Post", as you have guessed by now, IS impacted by the faders. If your fader is all the way down, NOTHING is sent to that bus. When to use which? That is a whole 'nuther discussion, but the point is that: . The red & yellow knobs are NOT just 2 busses for effects.
Thank you! I have had this product for a long time and there was a few things I was unsure of like the FX knobs and you explained everything very well. Very good video and keep up the awesome work. Now knowing it doesnt have FX built in I may look into the X1204USB which I believe has it built in. I may not needed but now I know for sure mine does not.
@@kenlane6655 Really!?? If they are built in without any additional hardware, how do I access them? I am confused on that feature. Any help or links to other videos would be greatly appreciated! Again thank you for this helpful video.
@@MASTERFTW Dont get confused by that comment :) There are 2 versions of the xenyx 1204 usb. One with a little screen where you can set up the FX stuff and one without it. As far as I know, the 1204 without the screen does not have the 16 effects built in.
Two gripes I have with this mixer (and it's related family X1204USB, Q1204USB, etc.) is the mute to alt 3|4 and the USB signal. First I would rather have a separate clean mute button to kill the entire signal and a separate Alt 3|4 button. With the way it's designed you never get true muting. The only way on these mixers to fully remove signal from the mic pre is to pull the faders down completely (1-4). While I get the combination probably saved $10, I'd prefer the mute and alt 3|4 to be independent and spend that extra $10 for that feature. Also the USB is stereo ONLY. It will not multi-track record, and it does sound like dog crap when you try to record over it (know this for fact as I was helping some friends of mine set the Q1204USB mixer for their new podcast. It sounded VERY tinny over the internet, whine in our headphones it sounded amazing) So bare that in mind and use the line out on your computer to the mixer).
Thanks for that input. The only 4x4 USB Mixer I could find was the Allen and Heath, but they don't have compressors. Have anything better you can suggest? I'm looking to hook up to 2 computers a single mic for various streaming and minor production.
old comment but have you found any affordable mixers that will do multi track record? just picked this one up and i realized it was only able to pick up 2 channels
I've been using this for the last 10 plus years. I'm looking to buy the QX 1204 that has 100 DSP effects. I would buy this over the basic audio interfaces in its price range.
Something I don't understand is sending from aux1 to aux1 (the third red knob on 8:38), it only generates a feedback loop. It would be logical that it would be from aux 1 to aux 2....
It can, until you want more control over the number of inputs and tracks you send out into your DAW. So, for example, the FS Scarlett Solo has 2 inputs, it can then send 2 tracks out into your DAW and you can edit those 2 tracks individually. On the other hand, a mixer will always output 1 stereo track. Meaning you can only edit that track alone no matter how many inputs you have. So an interface outputs a number of tracks that is equal to the number of inputs, where as a mixer does not.
We have this mixer and sometimes get an "echo" sound when we broadcast. It is random - but I was not sure if there was something that we could turn off that might be on that is causing the echo effect.
I’m trying to use auto-tune with that mixer, but I’m not able to route to audio from the computer USB to main, I can only listen to the mix through the phone outlet. How should I set it up so I could listen to audio with effects from the usb to main mix?

How is it possible to get that signal mixed in the main mix with a mic in the input 1 and get the whole thing in the RCA out jacks??? I tried every possible buttons and this does not work. Why would they make versions without the effects, I don’t understand. I’m hoping the shop accepts an exchange even though I kinda damaged the box.
after a couple years of my x1204usb being left ON probably 98% of the time, it randomly has some static/white noise. This goes away with either disconnecting and reconnecting the usb plug, powering off and back on, or applying pressure to the case on the top right corner..... opening it up is not a good idea unless youre a savvy person, there is wires that need to be disconnected if you wish to fully separate the top from bottom (after removing near 20 screws). I cant seem to have my mic adjusted where it needs to be and also not hear my pc fans and keyboard typing, but i think thats a different issue. past that i still get consistent compliments on my mic quality/voice, as discord and obs allows more noise suppression/gate and extra compression but im not in a booth for next level quality..... ANYWAYS, thanks for the rundown on what all the other things do that ive ignored for the past 2 yrs, hopefully i dont kill mine with prolonged heat damage lol
Same Problem here with the static. Problem is when I power off and back on it crashes my recording software. I did read somewhere that the PC may not be grounded properly. Haven't tried that solution yet.
Ils if I’m too late to get an answer but please if someone cld help it wld be so appreciated. My boyfriends bday is in 2 weeks and all he’s been talking abt for a year is a mixing table. I know NOTHING about this but this one seems good for a reasonable price. Is this one very recommended? Also does it connect to fl studio? If you got this as a gift considering you did not pick it out yourself for your ‘need’ would u be happy? Is it worth it is it good??
Why? You get what you pay for in mixers. You buy cheap and you get cheap (lots of hiss on the channels, knobs that strip easy, faders that stick or break, etc.) Save your money and get a Behringer. They are affordable and actually sound/work well. Save even more and go Mackie, PreSonus, etc. What works for some, doesn't always work across the board. 40 years in music tells me so.
@@kjemradio lol a few years ago Behringer was known as Noisinger and it was the cheap stuff nobody recommended. I know, that changed, but your comment reminded me of the old days - and made me LOL
I purchased that unit April 9th. It stopped working end of July. Apparently it's the USB connection, it needs to be sent for service. Not impressed with this as it's preventing me from recording in my home studio... my clients will go elsewhere if I can't provide voice. Should have purchased the upgraded version.
I appreciate the overview, well done. my question is when I use it as an interface, while recording it peaks out the cpu. when I use my old interface theres no problem. wondering if its the board or computer "intel e8400 processor" 3.0ghz idk

I know, that changed, but your comment reminded me of the old days - and made me LOL
are you sure you are explaining for the beginners ? explain with demo would be better?
I purchased that unit April 9th. It stopped working end of July. Apparently it's the USB connection, it needs to be sent for service. Not impressed with this as it's preventing me from recording in my home studio... my clients will go elsewhere if I can't provide voice. Should have purchased the upgraded version.
I appreciate the overview, well done. my question is when I use it as an interface, while recording it peaks out the cpu. when I use my old interface theres no problem. wondering if its the board or computer "intel e8400 processor" 3.0ghz idk
