UPDATE 2/16/21: Interesting timing that I called to cancel my Craftsy auto-renewal on February 2nd, put out this video on February 12th, then received a confirmation email at 8:44PM on February 16th after thousands of people viewed it...

When bluprint took over the classes seem to be marketing "teens" and leaned more towards "entertainment ". They really dumbed the classes down.

I had never paid for Craftsy content but I did can an account there as I purchased many patterns through them which also were supposed to be forever. Did the same thing when they changed to Blueprint. Signed in on both. Made sure my content was still there etc. then when they shut down blueprint i got many emails from Craftsy. I tried many times to sign into my account to no avail!! I contacted them and gave them all of my info but they could not find me or my acct anywhere. Really pisses me off. But they keep sending emails to me however they say they dont have my email on file. Hmmmm how does THAT work?!?!?!

I paid the same amount on my regular CC. Had to cancel that card and get a new one. They won't be able to charge me for a renewal. And I won't renew - not with the practice they have of making it that difficult to stop auto-renewal.

    • @Venus-bb7cd

That auto-renewal really gets me. I hate having to call a salesperson just to cancel something. It's always a song and a dance. I just want to do it online. They are currently offering membership for $2.97. I may do it anyway using a card that expires in a few months. 😁

When a company makes it difficult to cancel, it’s a guarantee I will never do business with them. The fact that you did not get a verification email is highly suspect. I would also contact the credit card company and have them flag that charge if it is attempted.

Was just charged a membership when it says as I requested no more renewels/subscription - however they tried to charge my card - I reported Fraud - then some how they found an old card somehow from my husband and tried to charge him - he defrauded the charge even though they don't shoe his card in my account. I cannot remove my card or change it - both our cards have been shut down now bc of this - now We have to try to contact Craftsy - I will be cancelling everything - they show no renewal on their website but they went to great lengths to try and get money out of us - do not get a Craftsy acct

I appreciate your candor about these things, especially when it comes to things you have endorsed in the past.
In addition to the additional hurdle of steps to call and cancel a subscription, things like that add a barrier to folks like me who are disabled and have a difficult time making phone calls. A service which requires me to call to handle my account is a service I simply can't use.

This has definitely become a shady organization. I've been trying to cancel my membership but there is no way to do it on their website. When I call the number they provide, it says the office is closed and provides office hours. I've called multiple times within their stated office hours and they are always closed. No one ever calls back when I leave messages.

Thank you for posting this video! I recently asked a question on a Craftsy video (I had never heard of them before) They replied that they'd be happy to answer my question if I purchased a membership. So I did a Craftsy search and just found this video of yours. THANK YOU for sparing me the headache. I probably would have signed up for their services because it sounds great in theory. My question was such a simple one, they really could have just answered it as a good business practice....I found the answer on a sewing page. And that page gained a grateful new subscriber :)

Thank you so much for creating this video! I was very close to getting a Craftsy membership today but I was hesitant because I would have to contact the company in order to get it canceled. That is usually a red flag for me - having to call or email the company to get something canceled (outside of utility companies). I looked for some reviews and found your video. Love that you added so many details. I am a new subscriber now!

I has joined craftsy back in early 2019? And I loved it! I was brand new to sewing and a huge fan of Angela Walters and her midnight quilt show so i would watch her videos then go to the craftsy store and buy the quilt kit that corresponded so I could make my own version. I loved how it came with everything including instructions and tips and you could even buy coordinating thread, it had a very professional look and feel to it. I bought three kits from them and loved every one! I was a member and when I found out they had gotten rid of their shop I decided to wait a little bit to see if it ever came back because I didn’t want to lose my discount. A year later they still hadn’t gotten their shop opened back up so I called one morning to cancel, it took a little bit and the customer service representative said they would have a new shop opening back up soon it never gave me a definitive time frame and tried to get me to stay but I told her that I would rejoin when that day came to get my discount back. It was a bit arduous denying her and trying to get my point across that I didn’t want my membership anymore since I only really used It for buying their supplies and quilt kits but I finally got through and canceled.
I miss their shop and the old craftsy, I also miss seeing Angela Walters here on TH-cam. They switched her to their platform and made it to where you would have to pay to watch which is really unfortunate. She was essentially the inspiration for me to buy a sewing machine and get into this new hobby, seeing her make a whole quilt in a “night” (I’m sure it was through the power of movie magic) made me feel like maybe i could do it too. Of course I soon realized it takes a WHOLE lot longer but still, she was real and even sometimes showed her mistakes 😅

This was a timely video. Craftsy was one platform unavailable to me or it was extremely cost prohibitive (not in the US) so I jumped on the cheap enrollment offer to explore the site. I haven't used it once. I'm not a fan of creating barriers for customers to modify their account or to cancel entirely. It's definitely not a 'customer first' approach.

Get the Privacy app and generate virtual cards (tied to your card, but kept private) and assign it to a single merchant. Set a limit so the merchant can't get more than your limit, and you can pause the card so it's no longer usable (you can un-pause it when you're ready to use it again. Works great on situations like this. No more cancellation headaches. There's also an option to create a one time use card.

Personally I love the new Craftsy. I’m so thankful to have access to not only my forever materials but also access to new courses. Even at the new rate, it’s less than $7 a month for full access so I believe that’s a good deal. I will renew because I don’t want to ever lose Craftsy again like we thought we were last summer. I am incredibly disappointed that the product line is discontinued. But I do have a nice stash of fabric and thread to enjoy going forward. In full disclosure, I am an affiliate for the new Craftsy as I was for Bluprint (which I also loved). But I do pay for my own membership and I would not recommend anything I don’t truly love and use. It’s always interesting to hear other’s thoughts on matters important to our Craft community, but I’m going to have to be the odd voice and express my support for the new platform. Thanks for initiating the conversation. ❤️

Thanks for this. I also am glad Craftsy came back and will continue my membership. It's like anything you pay for. Read the fine print and USE it. How many of us have bought 'craft' things and they sit, sometimes still in the boxes they came in. Guilty. And almost anything you subscribe to you need to call to cancel. I do not feel that is a problem. I would be glad to talk to someone to be sure it would be. Off now to learn something new... :)

I had a company try to force me to call to cancel a subscription, but I had signed up through the website, so I felt like I should be able to cancel through the website. I emailed to complain about this, so I called and was on hold for over 20 min. I emailed again to add to my complaints and they wrote back that I was cancelled. I kept an eye on my bank account though, but never got charged again. I've found I can generally get what I want if I don't swear, use complete sentences, and be persistent in my emails. 😉

I clicked and chose the "it's too expensive" option for the reason, which is the truth as I'm on a fixed income. They offered me a renewal rate of just $12.00! Does anyone know of any other method of cancelling by email. If you phone you do not have proof like an email and you cannot see the change like you would on screen if you were doing it online. Let me know if anyone not from the USA has found another method, besides cancelling their credit card, for cancelling this subscription.

This all would have cost a fortune if I had gone for private lessons. I paid $2.49 for all this. Quite a bargain, especially in a pandemic this has saved my sanity. It would have easily been worth full price. I could sell my artwork if I wanted to, people keep asking to buy my paintings.

Ditto! Ditto! Ditto! What can I say, they are not the same. I was a member of Craftsy years ago when you had to buy the videos, un- fortunately I did not download them. About 3 months ago, I saw an advertisement for National Sewing, so I decided to join them. Big mistake!!! So I saw an advertisement after I joined like the day after I tried to get that price for $3.99 for the first year. I could not, so I cancelled my membership. Then I saw an advertisement for Craftsy last week for $1.99, went online to try and join and could not find that price so therefore I did not join. I had no idea that the two companies were affiliated. I'm so glad I saw your video today. I made the right decision!!! Oh, by the way I tried to pull up my old account with Craftsy, no use everything that I had purchased was gone.

Good for you to tell this horrible experience you had. I've had them too, with other companies. It's just so easy for them to take advantage of people. After I cancelled one of them, not only did they take money from my credit card a few more months but they actually took additional funds. My credit card company came to the rescue as far as further deductions were attempted by this company. I may as well say it, it was Norton, a security outfit!!! First of all they hardly ever caught high risk intrusions and kept taking my money. That was about 3 years ago. Every now and then when I search my hard drive for something I see Norton listed and I can't delete it. Online is a risky business. I'm glad to see that your subscription cancellation worked. Too bad that when you find a company you like and they change it to something useless and even raise the prices.

Thanks for speaking about your decision. Just wanted to mention, if you haven't already done so, it's a good precaution to notify your credit card about the cancellation and alert them about the potential renewal in March. Give them as much info about the conversation and transaction as you can and have them notate your account. It will be much easier on you in case you are charged in March, even though you should not be. Of course if that happens, it's time to notify the BBB, and possibly the attorney general to investigate fraudulent business practices. Hopefully, you won't be charged! I wish you well!
BTW, I found your site when all the major Craftsy/Bluprint changes occurred last year and have kept an eye out to see your continued updates. I love how straightforwardly and naturally you speak to your audience and appreciate how well-considered you are on the topics you discuss.

Last year I signed up for Craftsy at a low amount. Today September 7th, 2023 $97 was removed from bank account. I called Craftsy to ask for a cancellation and refund my money. I was told “our policy is No Refunds “. I asked her to check with upper management and see if they would reverse. She said they would tell me the same thing. So choices for retired seniors on fixed income is medication and food or download Craftsy patterns and classes. Guess I’m going to be not taking my BP meds for a while. This is so wrong. They may have patterns and classes but how is that good when they don’t care about their clients.

They still charged the full annual subscription to my credit card. I didn't even received a payment confirmation email!. Please be aware! My bank is fast at getting the new card out and I made sure it was at a time I wouldn't need to charge something, like at the end of the month. Luckily I subscribed paying through paypal so I was able to cancel recurring payment for next year. Website is no use to cancel subscription, imagine a call from Italy to US to get help, would cost more than the subscription itself. Hi. Sorry if my English fails (I'm Chilean) I got a premium membership for 2.49usd aprox, but, what is it for? I have to pay all lessons, classes and materials anyway, so, what does this premium membership covers?

In October I opened a second account when they offered it at $2.49 because I could not add it to the one that was to expire in February. Blueprint shut down shortly after I purchased and I was never compensated for that time. I was upset that I had not seen the date change to get my free classes. (So much junk mail from Blueprint I quit looking at the emails. One day I had months the next day an email that it was over!) I did NOT have a problem getting my first membership cancel, except that they charged my PayPal a day before it was due so I had to wait for PayPal to refund. Just started to watch in Dec. an may never have done that if it wasn’t for the pandemic.

I'm in the UK and just had this video on my recommendations - sorry not watched any of your other videos (yet). I did wonder if you get hassle from the company (i.e. not cancelling your subscription) can you order a new credit card and cancel your old one so they can't charge your old card? I don't know how these things work in the US.

I let my membership expire after they sold the company. Before that, I used the platform ALOT - both classes and patterns. I owned quite a few of the permanent classes. I was pretty disappointed. Also, I had a membership to Great Courses Plus. I found some of the best Craftsy classes on that platform, so I could already watch them there. Welcome to the world of American Business. I’m 64, and I wish we told young people that many of the best products and services go up in price and down in value, others go straight to scamming and grifting. I’m fortunate that my grandparents (Born in 1905) taught me about how we often can get swindled. We have to be ever vigilant. This has always been a problem in our country. Good job telling us all about what happened to you! 👍🏻
